Some of this may be because of Apple's restrictions on apps that are allowed in the app store. Apps are required to use certain sand box rules and are restricted on what permissions they can have. By not using the app store, app developers are free to use all available resources on the mac.

In order to reset the SMC, shut down the computer and plug in the charger. Hold these keys on the left side of the keyboard, shift, control and option then press the power button. Release them all at the same time, then press the power button to power up. Hopefully that will solve it. On Jun
