Yup. It happens if you have your Apple TV going to a television. I worked
around it by purchasing a Digital to Analog Converter on Amazon. THis device
plugs into the optical output of the Apple TV, and offers a line out which you
can patch into your stereo. It works like a charm.

audio through AirPlay. This also lets you select your audio source, giving a
way to make iTunes use a different audio output. I want to ditch iTunes for

Yes, activities do exactly this. Go into the VoiceOver utility and you will see
an Activities category. You can add an activity and configure any of the
settings you want, including a different voice or verbosity. Then save and exit
the utility. To use the activity just use VO-X, and VO-X-X
I noticed I had to redo a few VoiceOver settings. If something seems weird make
sure to go through your VoiceOver preferences very carefully, because the
feature may have just gotten disabled somehow. For me, this happened with
auto-web spots.

acted like I typed one letter. Now it just seems unpredictable with multiple
