I scrapped my old hvac heat pump a few weeks back, got about $100 for the whole
deal. The compressor which weighed maybe 50 lb fetched the best after the
copper coils. Cash for a bunch of iron etc (including old Benz rotors) but a
check for the copper etc.

About 2005, when scrap prices were really high, there were a number of
folks here who would slide under cars in parking lots [ie WalMart] and use
battery sawzalls to cut cats out of as many cars as they could, then run
them to the scrap buyers to support their drug habit.
This happened so much tha
I was surprised at the prices for catalytic converters, as I know that platinum
is way down these days.

A couple weeks ago I dropped some cans at a recycler close to my work, and
their signs say they can only take home/office HVAC stuff if you bring in a
receipt for the purchase of the new equipment that replaced the old.

Down here they take everything but a DNA sample when you scrap stuff. I
scrapped some alloy wheels a few years ago, and the took my driver's license to
scan, a thumbprint, a picture, and a picture of my license plate.

I've got the permit, but when I asked last summer, was told they are illegal to
buy or sell in this state.

Beats me.
All I know is that almost immediately after I posted on the local CL that the
car was being parted I started getting offers for the cats for like $60. The
activity made me realize they must be a hot commodity, so I checked with some
local scrap metal people.
Mine are considered "larg

Take it to the scrapyard, or I can take it -- you have to get a scrapper
permit from the Sheriff these days. I have an old one sitting around
somewhere too.

Mass airflow sensor. The resistive element (PTC) just below the air cleaner
that reports on the volume of air entering the engine.

This came from my '95 E300 diesel, what do you think it's worth?

Our '96 Infiniti ran with the MAF disconnected, so probably. Computer no
longer has air flow info so it uses a default map to determine fuel injection
amount based on RPM and maybe other data.
Mass Air Flow?

Does anyone know if our cars, in my case the M119 engine, will run without the
MAF?
Granted, I would expect it to run poorly, but I was wondering as I continue to
part out the S500.
FWIW, I've sold almost $1000 worth of parts and have maybe $500 more currently
on eBay. And that doesn't include
