Re: [MBZ] 115 chassis blower access difficulty
I wonder if it could be replaced with the 80s GMC/80s Volvo 740 Squirrel cage fan mounted facing inward on the engine bay side of the firewall. It would require cutting a hole in the firewall from the outside, and a little bit of thin sheet metal work, but would result in an order of magnitude more airflow, and 5 minute blower fan replacement in the future. These fans cost $30 and come with a 2 year warranty from Napa auto parts. I would much rather see people mutilating their W115s to fix a faulty factory design, then scrapping them for newer cars. Tyler If you can crawl up in the place the blower services, a few large computer fans with the neon lights would work. I thought about it, but decided it was easier to just replace the thing.

Our government is, or was, considering relaxing some safety standards enough to allow other 'micro' cars (VW Lupo and the extreme small cars on sale in the Japanese market) to come in here as well. Re: [MBZ] DaimlerCrysler's latest blunder
LIkely the price you see is for the current DOT approved importers, say $15K for the car, $1K to alter to DOT standards/etc, 14K extra profit to cover DOT paperwork/bribes/politics/scandals/lawsuits/etc. Up in Canada we avoid the extra $15K of price gouging by buying from mercedes/smart directly, and the cost for mercedes to meet Canada Transport Standards isn't an extra 15K... From what I've read that includes adding side reflector markers, altering the headlamp/fog lamps since the fog lamps are a few fractions of an inch too close so they can't be fog lamps, and some metal/welding in the door to improve the side impact rating. PS find instructions on the internet to revert lamps back to euro spec... and I note base price of smart in canada is under $15K usa. Although most people I know have ones that run upwards of 22K or so, however they tell me have you looked at the price of B class, with a little clicking on the options you can achieve pricing over $55K! So 22K is well, not much... On 6-Nov-06, at 5:58 PM, David Brodbeck wrote: Jeff Zedic wrote: Wow are you guys ever getting ripped off!! -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 The freeway speed limit in oregon is 65mph maximum, and 55mph near cities/urban areas. I live in oregon, drive a lot of miles each year, and get pulled over very quickly if I exceed the speed limit. There are many areas that are continuously monitored speed traps (such as I-84 in hood river county, or I-5 in Salem), and they will pull almost everyone over who goes 10mph over the speed limit. I think there are very few state cops, because the highways are almost entirely patrolled by county cops which are very abundant. Small communities seem to use traffic tickets as a major revenue source for their government. Washington is much worse in this regard then Oregon. In Pacific, WA and Pomeroy WA you will get pulled over and ticketed for doing 2mph over the limit, and the fines are excessive compared to other states. I have never been pulled over for speeding in any of my diesel vehicles, but my gasoline volvo 740 turbo is another story :- I am genuinely surprised that you found Oregon drivers to drive fast, since I have been surprised by much faster people drive in most of the other states I have driven in (especially Nevada, California, and the midwest). -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I've noticed that consumer reports bases their reliability data on average cost of maintenance over the first few years, and their safety data on cost of repairs for minor accidents. I think these are both fundamentally flawed because a car that is expensive to maintain can still have fewer breakdowns and last longer before it is completely worn out than a car that has cheap maintenance requirements. As for safety, I personally am more concerned about how much damage will be done to me, rather than to my vehicle in the result of an accident. Who cares if the airbags cost twice as much to replace, if they are more effective at saving your life or preventing serious injury? Basically, they will say that a cheap american car is safer and more reliable than a high end european car, while the european car will provide much better protection to it's passengers in a crash, and still be on the road decades after the american car is worn out. The issue is that the original blower is a flat unit bolted against the firewall and then the rest of the climate control is bolted up behind it. Re: [MBZ] 115 chassis blower access difficulty
I would agree totally. No reason to scrap a car just because it is difficult to repair something of this nature. The vehicle is old enough to be relatively simple compared to many today with computer controlled doodads. It would not be mutilating the vehicle if it was done well. Think of it more as an upgrade to something that was not quite up to spec at the outset. I'm not burning any oil and I think it's pretty normal to see smoke at night on acceleration when illuminated by headlights behind you...smoke within reason, of course. Now select the ohms function on your meter, ground one lead to the engine block or battery negative terminal, and probe each pin on the plug with the other lead. You should read a low resistance for each one. (I forget the exact value, and the resistance of the test leads enters into it, but they should all be roughly equal.) If one comes up infinite, or with a very high resistance, either that plug is bad or it's become disconnected somehow.

If I have a multi-meter, How do I check the glow plugs? The easiest way is to remove the black plastic cover on the fender and disconnect the plug that connects the glow plug wiring harness to the relay. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com Christopher McCann, Squier Park, Kansas City, Missouri -2006 GSD, Anke -1985 300SD, 217K, Wulf -1982 300Dt, 117K, little blue klatter box -1971 Case 222 Hydrive, One Banger - Check out the all-new Yahoo!
