I decided to retry loosening the oil drain plug on the 190D tonight. This
time I grabbed it with the vice grips - the inner, rounded teeth part of
them. I clamped with just about all my hand strength. It seemed to slip at
first, but then, lo, the bolt turned!

Okay, when adding another quart after running the engine for a couple
minutes post-oil change, I smelled a strange odor coming from the crankcase.
The best way I can describe it is something like window cleaner. (no, I
wasn't pouring oil in the windshield washer reservoir - beat ya to that
one).

Thats funny that you mention it. I had to fix a clogged up toilet. Its
because they have not been flushing it. You see, everywhere they have
been you dont flush the toilet because there is no running water. As

It can be fairly simple, but you do need RPM control. Harbor Freight
has a cheapie 10kW

battery + and the starter motor's

Maybe but I doubt it. In that case ice had built up under the counterweight. In
the morning I removed that ice and all was well.
I put the charger on for about an hour this afternoon, the 4amp setting
produced less than 2 amps on the meter. I don't think the battery was
discharged
I wouldn't worry about it.
But to find out whats going on in the engine theres only one word you need to
know analysis, as in oil analysis.

While certainly not an expert myself, my understanding is that biodiesel
will provide a little higher cetane level yet simultaneously will not
provide quite as good mileage. One should also note a less noisy engine
and less smoking upon start up with bio than with petro diesel products.

imploded even to the point of crushing the fuel sending unit. A new tank

I have no 'formula for a cleaner. I just think that the lye soap which
retains the glycerin is not only kinder to the skin as it hydrates but it
seems to cut grease better. A regular bar of commercial handsoap hardly
makes suds when my hands are covered in grease. The lye soap seems to cut

Very similar, the CarveWright moves the work piece longitudinally while
the cutter moves Y and X. Their software is pretty good, the machine has
some limits but some good features.. I know those guys, they are some
ex-NASA Johnson guys who started their company 3 or 4 yr ago. I know 4

A solenoid click followed by dimming lights and warm or hot battery
cables is a locked up starter motor, the typical failure mode on these
engines. I've replaced two so far (different cars) -- they crank slow
for a day or two, then lock up solid.
There is no alternative to replacement.

You should check the actual temperature of the engine, but likely the
thermostat is bad. Right side of the engine, not bad with a non-turbo.
The oil pressure gauge pops up to 3 bar when you turn the key on? Wire
shorted or bad pressure sender, its below the oil filter housing, check
wire.
The cold, misty weather gives you more power from greater expansion of
extra water vapor in the engine (I'm not kidding), and the biodiesel
burns better than regular diesel (although you use a bit more). I
suspect most of the difference is in the new front end not dragging,
though.

Actually, front end work was about 300 miles prior. The big difference in
performance coincided with the B20 and the weather. I suspect you're quite
right that the water vapor was the key factor.

And this IMHO is the true key to making any real difference - just a little
change or two in the behaviors of us all.
