Mercedes designed the oil pressure gauge to only read the low end of the scale, and to peg at normal operating pressures. It varies between the different engines, but there is a lower limit for oil pressure at idle for an engine at full operating temperature. The Mercedes technical data book for

I just found the section on engine cooling - the thermostat in your engine should begin opening at 85C +/- 2, and at 94C it should be open 8mm. This is a fascinating little book. On Dec 15, 2007 3:19 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I just got this little guy a month ago after owning various

A solenoid click followed by dimming lights and warm or hot battery cables is a locked up starter motor, the typical failure mode on these engines. I've replaced two so far (different cars) -- they crank slow for a day or two, then lock up solid. There is no alternative to replacement. Peter

You should check the actual temperature of the engine, but likely the thermostat is bad. Right side of the engine, not bad with a non-turbo. The oil pressure gauge pops up to 3 bar when you turn the key on? Wire shorted or bad pressure sender, its below the oil filter housing, check wire.

The cold, misty weather gives you more power from greater expansion of extra water vapor in the engine (I'm not kidding), and the biodiesel burns better than regular diesel (although you use a bit more). I suspect most of the difference is in the new front end not dragging, though. Peter

Actually, as with any appliance you'd check the actual load on the faceplate. Correct... if the element is 5000W a 4K generator isn't gonna provide enough power. If the wattage on the element is only nom. 3,000 plus the load of the motor, about 1/3 hp.. it could be done. Yep, standard branch

Yes, my 190D runs the same temperature, and I understand that it's too low which can affect fuel mileage and engine wear. I need to get a new thermostat in there. I have been wondering, though, is that middle mark between 80 and the lowest mark indeed 60? You never know how gauges are laid out. ??
