Re: [MBZ] San Antonio hotel
That reminds me of staying in a hotel in Las Vegas NM one night when on our way from Houston to Taos we got stuck by a snowstorm with 2 kids and 2 poodles who did not really get along (dogs and chirruns) so we had to get 2 rooms and eat in shifts to keep all the individuals happy. Anyway, it was a cool old hotel, from back in the 1800s. Flash forward some years, I am watching the movie No Country for Old Men and there is a scene where they are sitting in an old hotel having a conversation, and I think That looks familiar and it was that very hotel lobby. If anyone is ever in Austin, there is a neat old hotel there called the Driscoll. --R On 6/28/15 9:04 PM, WILTON via Mercedes wrote: What was the name of the famous, old, first class hotel in downtown San Antonio? Something in that environment is probably conformally coated, meaning in order to desolder any components you have to burn through the conformal coating. [MBZ] I killed it Jim! Then, fix it Bones!
The 300d (76) has been sitting for a while. I seem to have killed the connection from the key to the starter. The glow circuit seems to work, the key turns and lights up the dash bulbs as normal, but when I turn the key to engage the starter, Nothing. I have been removing wires from the door and other non-essential(?) items. Thinks like AC and window, sun roof. The window wiring went out the firewall to a box (passenger side) that had fuses and wiring block, but also an ancillary pig tail that went under the fuse to a relay? with four wires. A heavy red, a heavy black and standard ground (brown) and another wire. I was messing with this bunch just prior to the no start. What I need to do is divest as much as I can from the key and put it all on dash switches. I need a kill switch, glow, ignition, start, and want the lights divorced from the spin dial. The latest revision of the Interstate Truck Driver's Guide to Hours of Service, was published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in February 2013 to help explain their regulations. On page two, it discusses Personal Use of a Commercial Motor Vehicle saying, It is possible that occasionally you may not use a truck in commerce at all. You may be moving your personal belongings to a new house or, as a hobby, you may be taking your horses to a horse show. As long as the activity is not in support of a business, the Federal hours-of-service regulations do not apply to you. [MBZ] Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Would be interested to hear anyone’s direct experience with using SS brake lines versus the stock rubber lines, and what exactly the difference was. The S500 needs brake lines, so I found a set of stainless lines made by Goodridge and ordered them tonight. About the same price as OE lines from the dealer from the looks of things. It’s my understanding that SS lines give a much firmer pedal than rubber lines. If I find this to be the case, I’ll definitely replace the lines on the SL500, as it’s always had sort of a soft pedal. Lots of people in the R129 forum on BW have reported this as well. Re: [MBZ] OT Circuit Board Repair
Some time ago several on the list suggested solvents for removing the coating on the boards in the climate control units in 123s. However, don't remember who they were at the moment or which solvents they suggested. Surface mounted components that have leads of adequate length can be snipped close to the old component and the new components leads can then be soldered to the old lead without heating the board providing that there is enough room to use pointed heat sink clips on the old leads next to the board. I use surgical misquito forceps if there is room because they are heavier and absorb more heat. Rick ___ What is it out of? GPS/Autopilot for a competition sailboat. Does it have circuits on both sides of the board? Not mine, I don't know. Have you looked to see if the ends of any of the capacitors are bulging? I did suggest that to the owner. I suggested he get a new or good used board and re-cap the old one for a spare. A used board is upwards of $600. [MBZ] OT Firewalls
I finally fixed an email problem which has been bugging our household for a couple of months. We've been able to receive email on our email client - home computer, but couldn't send most of the time. Email worked fine from our smart phones. I called ATT tech support (second call in a few weeks) and we spent about 30 minutes making sure I knew how to enter my username and password and setup the right email servers and ports and such, and the lady said the next two steps were to temporarily shut off my computer firewall and then delete and reload MS Outlook. Firewall! Checked the DSL modem / wireless router settings, shonuff the required port for sending was blocked. Shut off the firewall, can send just fine... - Max Charleston SC ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
