That's your problem.
Outlook enters a CR after 80 characters. Older versions of Outlook you
could change that
but when Microscrew starting using Word as the editor they took away
that option.

Firefox on the other hand is Smart enough not to do that.

I've been using Thunderbird since 2003, can't stand outlook. Never had

I recommend it to my client as a replacement for Windoze Dead Mail.
If you use the calendar in Outlook install Lightning for Thunderbird.

files from multiple computers (one at a time) and occasional computer
shutdown before all loose ends are cleaned up. When I "upgraded" to Office
2013 things seemed to get worse, bug-wise. Creating new profiles from
scratch seemed to help in the past but I wonder if there isn't a more
dependable client. I looked online and found strong opinions both ways.
What do folks here think?

The 300D I got for trade for a desktop computer from PO because the line

I've pulled a couple engines @ Pull-A-Part. They will let you use an A

Best bet is to ask them.

I was at the pick a part today and came across a car I used to own. This is a prime example of stupidity. So I sold this to a friend of mine who drove it for a while then he sold it to a coworker of his a while back. This is a 96 e300 diesel. A couple of months ago my friend said she was wanting to get rid of it. Anyway it turned up at the junk yard. It had auction stickers on it as well as a dealer stock tag, which turned out to be one of my customers. If I had noticed it in their inventory I could have picked it up cheap. So this was a perfectly good car, she traded it in and the dealer sent it to auction. LKQ bought it there. So apparently they buy perfectly fine running cars at the auction to part out. Sad. The car appears to have just arrived and only had the condenser removed. I spend a couple of hours there stripping off anything of value. I ended up spending about $200 which was probably $800 or more worth of parts on eBay. Here is my question, has anybody pulled an engine

fore at one of these places? Knowing the car I really want to go back for the
engine before somebody starts hacking away at it. I see they have a frames out
there but I am unsure about pulling one on site. If just hacking lines and
cables should come out pretty quick I guess, just worried about the logistics
of actually doing the pulling and getting it out of there.

First, "still within easy driving distance" is not going to happen in the

DFW area. Second, no Okie would willingly move to texas. Third, that 4-5
hour drive to/from the ranchito will get old fast. You'll need to budget
for that PPL and an airplane - cuts the travel time down to 2½ hours. Just
move close to (if not on) an airport/airpark. Of course, then you'd trade
the MB habit for an aircraft one (more expensive).

Re: [MBZ] 124 fuel tank

2016-04-24 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes

I've seen a tank with the same crud at my buddy's MB Indy shop.
Owner did the same thing, unfiltered WFO.
They pulled the tank dumped the cruddy fuel out. Put a cup of Dawn Dish
washing liquid in it then
rolled the tank to distribute the dawn let set for an hour and then used
a steam cleaner to wash the tank
out. Drained it then flushed it with a pressure washer 3 times. Let it
dry out in the sun then they used
a tank sealer the MB recommends. Don't ask me what the brand or name was
I've slept a bunch since then.

You may try using vinegar to dissolve the gunk.

with rust and krud. leaving high FFA oil sit in a steel tank is not
good.

Yesterday #1 daughter took off in it so I could work on the front end
of the other 300D. The filter plugged up and she returned, and too
off in the heap. I am now without working wheels.

I changed the filter. I still can't get it to run on its own. (half
firing) Still short on fuel. The filter only drained out a
tablespoon or two of oil. Very plugged up. I probably weighed 5-6
times what the new filter weighed.

SO I drained the tank and took it out. Is is coated with a yellowish
crud. It is somewhat like a really bad case of the black death crud,
but not black.

I thought about getting a tank coating, but that won't stick to the krud.

Has anyone ever seen this krud? Is there any way to clean it out? I
had planned to pressure wash the tank, but I won't be able to clean
all of it with a regular pressure washer.

I am guessing the only clear path is to get a used clean tank, but
that will take a few days. Getting a coating will probably take a few
days also.

What's the collective experience?

Once you've gone to 10 you can delete it and go again with the

required a download of a fairly large .tgz file. After I failed a couple

How do dat in winders I can hear you Linux guys laughing now...

I searched about a bit, discovered CertUtil tool, accessible via the CMD

just fine...

Next I chatted with the tech support folks for the device and "Juan"

2016-07-09 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes
If your fridge is working Ok you can buy a counter top ice maker. Sam's
has them, a friend bought on of the 10# models.
Works great but the storage bin is on the small side. Or do like my
uncle and the last base I worked at and go to a restaurant
supply house and see if they have a used commercial ice maker for sale.
One of our mechs found one at a restaurant that
was going out of business. We all chipped in and bought it for 150
bucks. Was nice to be able to fill up an ice chest to keep
the fish I caught cold on my 2 1/2 trip home with out going ans paying
Achmed an exorbitant price for a bag of ice.

Commercial ice makers sell for $1800 and up new.

Our current refrigerator is a Whirlpool side by side stainless. With

jug that I use when working outside on car lots. If I end up having to
work outside more than 1 day in a row the ice maker will not fill back
up by the next morning between using all of the ice in the morning and
whatever is used in the house during the day. Usually by the time I
get home in the afternoon it has filled about half way back up, then
we use ice in the evening using most of what was made, then in the
morning it is filled about half way back up again. After a couple of
days I really do not have enough ice to fill up my jug. So this leads
me to start looking at these new french door refrigerators with the
slide out freezer in the bottom. I am most interested in one that has
dual ice makers, they have one in the door and one in the bottom
freezer. We do not use bulk ice that often but when we need it, it
would be great to have it. In my little bit of research I am tending
to lean toward Samsung or LG. The Whirlpool/Maytag/GE seems like they
are way more expensive than what you can get from LG/Samsung. Anybody
have any refrigerator experience they would like to share? Online
reviews seem to be no help really. Any website I find seems to be an
advertisement for 1 brand or the other. Also, Lowes seems to be
having a massive sale that lasts a few more days.

It's an interesting website. For example, currently it shows
(probably a low speed) "cyclone" on the east coast at the border
between Georgia and South Carolina; which are obviously caused by
wind from several directions.
The website also shows other aspects of moving weather patterns which
are easier to understand than the usual static weather bureau notation.

Rewiring them is a piece of cake. You just cut out the Ballast and wire

i replaced the tubes from Home Despot 40 bucks for 2 the ballast that
was in the fixture was bad and was going to be
over 40 to replace. Toggled is the brand they sell. I got Daylight

2 years ago I replaced he transformers in the four tube light assembly over
the sink. The last few weeks sometimes one, sometimes two of the bulbs on the
same shared transformer didn't come on until I twisted one of them in its
sockets.
Yesterday I found that just touching the glass in the middle of the tube was
all that was needed to make it come on. I've done that repeatedly and every
time the tube(s) light up as bright as usual.
The only thing I can think of is some sort of capacitance effect that lets weak
voltage/amperage from the dying transformer ionize enough of the gas to
complete the circuit.
The primary cause is probably the Chinese transformer from Home Depot since
neither of the new bulbs is affected.

I don't know where to get a 'good' LED PS. Most assemblies have them
built-in. Consider that our lowly 48" fluorescent shop lights eat bulbs
like crazy. They have cheap electronic ballasts in them. The old-school
fixtures with magnetic ballasts in them have never needed a new bulb, and
they run on the same circuit and with the same bulbs. (The ballast is the
bulb power supply. Current-limited mid-voltage while running, with HV and
bulb-warming starting capabilities too.)

LED's also need power supplies, but radically different. (Well, the
current-limiting is sort of the same. But the rest is all different.)
Except for incandescents, line power is NOT a good match for ANY lighting
technology. (Well, maybe EL, but that's dim, and green...) Even that,
maybe. Seems like around 6-12V is optimum for incandescents, so a simple
transformer power supply is their PS. (The longer thinner filaments for
higher voltages are kind of fragile. But automotive headlights
successfully put up with a lot of crap.)

Flush the system with nothing but fresh water. Then replace with Dexcool
only.
If the Dexcool has not been changed since it was built in '08 you have
major damage
to the cooling system. Dex. tends to go to the acidic side after 3 years
after 5 years
it's depleted and goes to the High side of the Ph scale and starts to
eat pinholes
in the aluminum cores of the radiator and heater. Try to get the
Pre-mixed Dexcool.
If you can't then mix it with distilled H2O only. Dex doesn't play nice
with city or

well water.
I was at a friends shop last week he had a 2010 Vette in that needed a
new radiator
and heater core. Seems the Cheby stealership charged him to change out
the Dex but
never did. Ph was 7 on the stuff that frends tech drained out of the

now if fighting with the stealership and Cheby Regional Office for them

In my case I didn’t care about the money, as it was already pretty good. I

Unfortunately there are now several carb adjustment screw heads on outdoor

tools. Most of them are somewhat available to purchase, one or two were not the
last I knew.

People started slotting the screws with dremel cutoff wheels, so the carb
makers started recessing the screws in tunnels in the carb body so you had to
slot the carb body too. It's as if they want your two stroke engine to run lean
and seize so they can sell you another one.

Re: [MBZ] Clay's tire issues could be resolved with this

2018-01-29 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes
When I bought SWMBO's 240D it had steel rims on it. Along with a set of
bunts

that someone had cut the tires off and left the bead on the rim.
Three of the steeles had dents along the bead lip. It had fairly new
rubber on them.

I decided to swap the rubber to the bunts.
A friend had  the HF tire machine we mounted it to a 1" T shaped piece
of plywood.
Stand on the leg portion of the T put tire on machine pull handle pop of
the bead

used a recp. saw to cut the bead.
Cleaned up the bunts and used a HF powder coating sprayer with the HF
sliver power
coating. Bunts came out looking good. Thp HF paint is almost a match for
the original

MB paint. To bad HF doesn't carry it any more.

The biggest issue then is where to install it. If need be, I
think it could be bolted to a 4X4 square of plywood so that it
could be used without permanent installation in one's garage.

Might work, but there is a _lot_ of force applied. Something more
secure than a loose piece of wood may be required.

The wood isn't effectively loose if you're standing on it while you operate the
machine. That way it's self contained with the tool and the power source on the
same platform.
Then the only question is whether the wood is strong enough to transmit the
force from the base of the stand to your feet. I'm thinking the plywood should
be about an inch thick.

Vehicle cooling systems are fairly simple, we have covered nearly every
aspect of them in various articles here over the years, whether it is
diagnostics, servicing, or even just general knowledge of how they
function, you can find it on the Know How Blog. When you learn about
something new, you feel the need to share it, and that is what brings us
here now – a new tool that helps you service your vehicle’s cooling
system. The AirLift Kit radiator vacuum tool from UView.

(continued on the web page)

-

Basically, it's hardware that attaches to the radiator cap's spot and
pulls a vacuum on the cooling system using a venturi vacuum pump. Once
you have a vacuum pulled on the cooling system, you connect a jug of
antifreeze and let the vacuum pull it into the cooling system.

The cost, $219.43, puts it in a category for professional mechanics, but
one could rig up something for less than that.

Re: [MBZ] Locked Computer

2019-06-18 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes

You won't find a Win Activation Code sticker on the bottom.
And you can't use a program to get it off the computer.
Win10 uses a digital ID that is stored on MS's servers.
Download the Win10 iso create a dvd or stick. Wipe the drive during
instillation. When asked for a product key chose I Don't Have One option.
After installing do all the updates. By this time 10 will talk to the
servers

and activate with the digital license.
You can use Ultimate CD to get the version of Win 10 that's installed.
10 will ask what version you want during the install process.
Any questions feel free to email me and I'll answer.

UTILITIESS.C. customers to get $146M in historic class-action suitPublished:
Thursday, June 13, 2019

Current and former ratepayers of South Carolina Electric and Gas will split
$146 million in what is considered the largest private class-action
settlement in state history.

News outlets report a judge finalized the decision Tuesday. More than 1
million customers were involved in the lawsuit, represented by 13 law firms.

The attorneys sued SCE and parent company Scana Corp. for its role in the
abandoned construction of two nuclear plants in the state that never
generated power. Virginia-based Dominion Energy Inc. took over the utility
in January.

SCE agreed to pay $115 million and sell properties valued at $85 million.

The attorneys who argued the case will get $51 million plus nearly $900,000
for expenses.

It's unclear when SCE customers will get paid and how much each customer
will receive. *— Associated Press*

clean it out is to buy some cheap bulk fluid, dexron or whatever, then run a
coupla drains and refills through before I put in the new filter then another
dose of clean fluid. That would dilute the old stuff pretty well but unless I
used “better” fluid to do the process it would get diluted quite a bit on just
the last fill.

What do shops do when they flush and refill? Some kind of machine that somehow
can flush out the TC? How does that work? Are there some kind of fittings?

Last night I did a Win 7 to 10 upgrade using a USB drive created with

This was the 15th I've done in the last 2 weeks.
If you run the setup from a running system it will keep all your

If you wipe the drive and do a New install of 10 you will need the Win 7

your system.
So far I've only had one system that the upgrade would not take. Kept
giving me a "System

Security Issue" message.
Remember the up date will be lateral. Home to Home Pro to Pro.

Any hints on exorcising the demon instead of just blocking it?
I might try deleting all things firefox and reinstalling, I guess.

Kaleb

I've got 2 of these
https://www.samsclub.com/p/seville-commercial-industrial-shelving-6-ct/152201?xid=pdp_carousel_rich-relevance.rr0_2
plus our computer club has 6 of them.

Paid 79.99 for them at Sams about 7~8 years ago. They work great.

Re: [MBZ] Batteries, was: Daimler cheated too? (I'm sure VW feels better now)

2020-09-20 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes
I have a Boltpower NO2 jump pack. I've used it 6x's in the last few
months. Works
great. 800CCA 1200Peak Amps. The first time I used it was to boost off a
Froad Power
choke 2500. His battery was down to 3 Volts on my multi meter. Hook up
the bolt to it
waited 30 seconds and it fired up the Power Choke on 3 rev. The guy was
impressed with
it. Said he had a hard time jumping the truck off with a regular car
battery. Truck has had
a problem since new with a parasitic draw problem that the dealer hasn't
been able to find.
He's has it in the shop 3x's each time they say they fixed it but it
keeps rearing up it's ugly

head and coming back. The last time they "fixed" it was the week before.
I bought the Bolt because of a article I read that the reporter had
tested 10 different jump
packs that were rated to start ditzels and this was the only that did
what it was advertised
to do. Tester was starting a 124 300D with the test units and a battery
that was at 2 volts.

Me too. Back in the day it seemed batteries died gradually but now it's
sudden death in my experience. Jumper cables are OK but you need an second,

Re: [MBZ] Thinking about getting one of these for future use

2020-06-07 Thread Russ Williams via Mercedes
My mech has a Matco version and one of the other mechs in the shop has
the HF version.

Both do a great job on MB's and Bemmers they work on.
He did my E320 2 years ago. These work like a charm cuts down on time
spent doing the job.
Also he suggest to mix the coolant and the distilled water before you
fill the system no matter
which way you fill it. Seems that the mixing action takes at least a
week or more the way you did it.
