I also use ViaCAD 2D/3D (bought for $99) from Punchcad, it is perfect SW
for this price. My typical workflow is drawing 2D shapes in QCAD, import
DWG into ViaCAD and extrude the shapes, do some boolean operations and so..
Then export to STEP for CNC milling.
My neighbour works for CNC
manufacture in Roznov.
I think nothing was saved and there are no stocks of nixie tubes anymore.

The best way is to use rs232 to uart converter ($3 or so on ebay), You just
plug it into pc and directly connect to rxd and txd of your MCU. This is
cheap and easy solution. The converter itself uses a max232 IC to change
signals from rs232 to TTL.
