Spent a bit more time on the East End this morning with nothing new to report
other than some updates.
I first stopped along Further Lane to locate Angus' reported Cackling Goose.
The flock was reduced since yesterday with fewer Canada's, zero Greater
White-fronted Geese and no Cackling, at
Just seen in the kettle then flew south toward the nutmeg meadow, as Peter
Polshek referenced in yesterday's post. I alerted a group of 3 birders from
Pennsylvania who quickly followed up and enjoyed nice views.

There is a drake Eurasian Wigeon on the pond at W. Sayville Golf Course. I

in Riverhead searching for geese but there are slim pickings in
the area. A single Greater White-fronted Goose is in the southern most field
along the east side of Roanoke Avenue (south of Reeves Ave.).

Sandpipers at this same location on 4/2. There was also an eBird report from
Phil Uruburu on 4/3 where he reported 9. So the flock has grown considerably
since yesterday.
There certainly appears to be some great shorebird habitat developing since the
opening of the spillway.

Passing along a note from John Shemilt who observed and photographed a single
2nd winter/summer Glaucous Gull at Mecox this afternoon. The bird was roosting
on the northern most sand bar among a flock of mixed gulls.

private road, parking and walking around their properties. However, from what I
gather, they are generally receptive to folks politely requesting permission to
access said lands.

The single bird on the Moriches inlet flats continued as I was leaving the park
at 2:00 PM.
As a side note there 5 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS in the 105 sod fields in
Riverhead this morning.

highlights were 11 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 1 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPER and 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER. The continuing MARBLED GODWIT, along
with a single Whimbrel, was also present.

There was a Black Vulture flying along Route 25 in Jamesport at around 9:00 AM
this morning. It looked like it may have landed along the north side of the
road, just north of Washington Ave.
