I've never completely stopped shooting film. Those old bodies are just too nice
to leave sitting around collecting dust. The trouble is, nowadays it is so
damned expensive to shoot film, even if you develop it yourself.
I was in Atlantic Photo in Halifax yesterday to pick up a roll of 120
Larry, I'd never heard of it until now, but it sounds interesting. Thanks for
pointing it out.
His other programme, Starry Sky Stacker, is even more interesting for me.
Image stackers for the Mac are few and far between. I ended up buying an old
used Windows machine to process my images on.
I've been out photographing it on two nights, July 16th and 18th. Both nights
were far from good...lots of clouds and haze. This is the worst time of the
year to try to do astronomy in Nova Scotia...not that there is ever really a
good time. I used my K-3 on the 16th and tried my Nikon D3 last

Thanks for the advice, Mark. I did end up buying the lens yesterday
after testing it - no purple fringes. On the K3 my example is tack
sharp when taken down two stops, and a little softer at F2.8 when
viewed at 100%, bit that is to be expected.

25 years, and my Manfrotto carbon fibre (don't recall the model number)
is solid enough to support my 645 and tough enough for astrophotography

My only issue with my 3 month old K-3 (~2500 actuations) is that the
frame counter for the cards is out. It shows a maximum of about 150
exposures on an empty 8gb card but I get closer to 250 per card.

There is or was an aurora on, as seen from Nova Scotia. I went out just
before 9pm and noticed a diffuse glow along the northern horizon. It
stayed that way for awhile but when it started to brighten and show
some structure I went back to the house and got the K-3 with my trusty
old Tamron
My wife and I are heading for the UK for two weeks starting October

Kinda defeats the purpose of having an A mount lens, doesnt it???
I don't feel so bad about only having version 2.
