and bought istDs. :-) Crazy man am I not?
The K10D is admirable camera but it's on the big side of comfortable for
me (both size and weight). The K100D was also ruled out, because the
viewfinder is not up to the quality of K10D/istDs viewfinders and build
quality seemed to be lower as well.
Godfrey,
Were I to need the 4G capacity, I'd buy the Sandisk Ultra II SDHC,
which come with a compatible reader. But for now I'm standardized,
and content with, 2G capacity cards.
BTW my Transcend 4GB (non SD-HC) works just fine in my istDs (~360 RAW
exposures available after formatting,

How are you opening PEF files. My dng converter on the ibook is the
newest, but won't recognise them.

Oddly, the K10D compresses the PEF files but not the
DNG files.
My ist D produces ~13 MB PEFs. My workflow is to put

Peter,
I had two of the Ds, with no hot pixels to speak of.
I'm using a K10D, but think the Ds is a great way into Pentax digital.
Make sure you get the download off the Pentax USA site.
It will upgrade the Ds functions to a Ds2 (2gig sd cards).
Pentax USA has the DS2 manual if necessary.

We had an ice storm in Michigan today. Shot some pics this morning and
again this afternoon. The first is with the K85/1.8, the second is with
the Vivitar Series 1 90/2.5 macro, and the last two are with the DA
50-200. All on the K10D.
