My funniest story of this kind actually happened in Toronto. Debbie and I have only been to Toronto once. At one point we were walking down the street, and two rather plain young men in polo shirts we walking along with two women with leather, garters, etc. I'm laughing to myself, but suddenly Debbie notices, spins around to look and nearly walks into someone. PESO - PAD - Sand and Sneakers - Print-a-Day-18
This is number 18 in the series Print-a-Day for 30 Days. http://georges.posterous.com/sand-and-sneakers-print-a-day-18 The annual Sand in the City competition was just a few weeks ago. Teams of volunteers from local businesses compete to build the best sand sculpture in an effort to raise funds for a local charity. A few members of the Omaha Camera Club took photos again this year. A couple of tons of sand are dumped into a big pile to give the kids a place to play. The sand pile is surrounded by little pairs of shoes. This print was selected for the print project because of the detail in the shadows and the blue shoe laces. The printer can produce a wider range of blues than can be seen on the screen. I was curious to see how the laces would reproduce on paper. gs George Sinos gsi...@gmail.com www.georgesphotos.net plus.georgesinos.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I have not the slightest idea how that's supposed to relate? From: P. J. Alling I can't figure out, ahh, well. Let me tell a small story. Long ago a friend decided he wanted to raise gerbils. He had been given a male gerbil as a gift. So all he needed was a female or two to get started. To make a long story short after purchasing the third male gerbil in a row, I asked what the problem was, and he replied; It's really difficult to sex a gerbil. Re: of PEF files and viewing them - help
Actually I had a similar problem with two different file viewers in Win2K. One was using a setting in the OS, the other ignored it and used it's own setting. It was a PITA to figure out what was going wrong. The problem could be in an OS setting. For the life of me I can't remember what it was or I'd suggest changing it, also I can't remember where Win2K hid it let alone where it's hiding in WinXP. Re: PESO Bass Trombone
Larry, 1. Regarding the glare, - I remember reading somewhere (maybe even from a source posted here, on PDML) an advaice that with DSLRs the sunshades should be used at [almost] all times. I don't remember the reasoning, however. In any case, the newer lenses are designed (or coated?) to reduce the flare that can be produced due to high reflectance of the matrix. I am not sure if that might be the culprit here. Obviously, A*200 does not have that in its design/coating. 2. I like several photos from this set (mostly portraits and group photos). I don't care much for the trombone one - it might be somewhat mesmerizing but it is too mechanistic for me personally. I hope you don't mind me sharing my rather critical view on some of other photos below. Continuing the idea that I mentioned to you in response to the book photos, - I would leave out these photos: 20120617-LRC51609.jpg 20120617-LRC51549.jpg and probably (it's close to the border-line here) 20120617-LRC51548.jpg . For the first two, I don't appreciate the composition, for the last one, - the combination: composition (which can be fixed partially, - by cropping), and a combination of the facial expression with the grain. The composition/crop of 20120616-LRC51257.jpg is not my favorite either. 3. After glancing over the set first time, I thought that you can use a mix of BW and color on one of the shots... (I even pulled mine as an example: http://42graphy.komkon.org/swing/camphollywood-2007/Artsy/index.html - sorry, it requires flash plugin) And then I found that you did that in the first photo, 20120616-LRC51164.jpg 4. Speaking of that first photo, - even though it is interesting for the reason discussed in 3 above, the composition seems to be rather disjointed. I would consider splitting this photo into two. This one was definitely female. I think. ;-) Have to admit the extreme softness of the photo makes ID that much harder, but I walked right by her and she was almost certainly a she. As I said in the initial post what is unusual about this is the time of day. I've seen the girls out after dark, but never so obvious in broad daylight. Also, in our neighbourhood, their dress is rarely this garish. Maybe she's testing out a new location or something... As I'm sure Bruce has noticed, this part of Toronto is an interesting mix. South of Lakeshore Blvd. are nice single family homes with Volvos, BMWs and Audis in the driveway. I'm sure that some of the big homes with waterfront access are valued in the millions. North of Lakeshore? A bit more downscale. Lots of down and outers drinking at sad little restaurants on the strip. And at night, hookers. Sorry, sex trade workers. Too bad about this photo. The image, the moment was a good one, I thought. However it's way too soft to do anything with, other than show the list and have a few laughs. On Jun 19, 2012, at 12:23 PM, Igor Roshchin wrote: Larry, 1. Yesterday I tried making an enhanced lens hood, one with a narrower field of view, that would do a better job of shading the lens. I tested it and couldn't get that nasty glare either with, or without the extra hood. So, I'm puzzled. It might only be so obvious with a really, really dark background. 2. I like several photos from this set (mostly portraits and group photos). I don't care much for the trombone one - it might be somewhat mesmerizing but it is too mechanistic for me personally. That's what happens when you turn the dial to 11, some people love it, others hate it. I hope you don't mind me sharing my rather critical view on some of other photos below. Feedback is always appreciated. I'm very new to getting photos of the audience. The bands that I usually shoot are either playing for dancers, or don't have much of an audience (jam nights at the local dive bar). I might like them as much for their novelty in my collection as anything else. 3. After glancing over the set first time, I thought that you can use a mix of BW and color on one of the shots... (I even pulled mine as an example: http://42graphy.komkon.org/swing/camphollywood-2007/Artsy/index.html - sorry, it requires flash plugin) And then I found that you did that in the first photo, 20120616-LRC51164.jpg Great minds think alike. 4. Speaking of that first photo, - even though it is interesting for the reason discussed in 3 above, the composition seems to be rather disjointed. I would consider splitting this photo into two. On the off chance that any of you are interested in either the class, or heckling me South Bay Fusion usually has two dance classes, an introductory one from 7-8 and a more advanced one 8-9. Since a lot of people have been asking about how I get the dance photos that I do, I talked to Bob, who runs the venue, and will be teaching a class from 7-8. The first fifty minutes will be the basics of photographing dancers, the last ten will be on being photographed while you're dancing. From 8-9 I'll go downstairs and answer any questions in more detail while the main class is going on. RE: PESO - PAD - Sand and Sneakers - Print-a-Day-18
Really like this one. It's like a candid running shoe shot; it's all so real, from the bright colour of the laces to the rolled up sock ball in one shoe. Thumbs up. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Flash focus assist
I tried going for a run this evening. I got home at dusk and noticed some pretty flowers a little ways up the road. I wanted to get some photos of them. Easy to do with a flash, but hard to focus and frame when it was getting dark. At first I tried wearing a headlamp, which sort of worked, but then I realized that if I attached it to the soft box on the flash, not only would it illuminate the subject, but I'd get some idea where the flash was aiming: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/7405944224/in/set-72157630202932998 A couple of the shots that I got: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/7405939628/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/7405941718/ And a bit of silliness: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/7405942176/ -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

I tend to shoot in confined spaces, and like to be specific where my light goes, so I'm pretty sure I want one. You need to get the manufacturers specifications regarding how much spread they allow. My grids (the correct name for them BTW) allow a fairly tight pattern.
