Re: OT: Events in Ukraine WARNING -- Political Content
Thanks for the interesting and thorough write up about the historical background of the place now known as Ukraine, Dan. But I have to say that the Economist article you have linked is nothing but their usual russophobic stuff. They may pretend to be objective, but they say nothing about the evident US and EU meddling in Ukraine, and less still about those Western Ukrainian patriots whose idol is Stepan Bandera, the butcher of more than 300.000 Ukrainian Jews and eager nazi collaborationist. Those people who were holding night torch marches in fascist style a few weeks ago are the ones the EU and the US want to be in charge of government. I am sorry for the honest and hopeful Ukrainian citizens who think that the UE is a land of honey and milk (har!), they have been ruled by one thief after the other in the last 23 years and I am afraid it seems it will get even worse in the future. Re: Matyolans
Bob, These photos show the character of the area and people very well. Once, back in 1992, I visited for a week a village hidden in a valley between the mountains, populated by Ruthenians. It is called Vyshka: http://goo.gl/maps/20yg9 It is just on the other (Ukrainian) side of the border, and about 200 km (as a bird flies) WNW from where you were. Beautiful area, interesting people. They primarily relied on natural economy, and almost did not need/use money, unless somebody, once in a while needed to go to the city. (It made it harder for us to buy milk and potatoes that we needed.) Re: Daytona Superbird
There was a production version of the Daytona — had to be to make it legal for NASCAR — and the wing had to be high enough for the trunk lid to open. That’s the story of legend anyway. But the car was designed in a wind tunnel and it may well have been that the wing caught more air when positioned high. The production versions of the Daytonas and the Plymouth Superbird version were crudely assembled. The gaps on the nose cone didn’t align and the pain on the rear spoiler didn’t match the body color. Now when the obsessive original equipment collectors restore them they try to make them less than perfect. Shot several of them that were judged at shows over the past few years. The winning cars all were a bit off kilter. On Feb 21, 2014, at 1:51 PM, knarf knarftheria u...@gmail.com wrote: Quick! Why was the rear wing so high? No googling, that's cheating. Drool-worthy car. I was invited to the wake, where they served stuffed vine leaves washed down with tsuica. Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: John johnsess...@yahoo.com Subject: Re: Daytona Superbird I never thought they were as cool as the Plymouth Belvedere II that preceded them. I remember back in high school the local Plymouth dealer was on the way when I walked from school to my after school job I'd sometimes stop in to drool over a '66 2-door, 426 Hemi, 3-speed on the floor (Hurst shifter I think - that may be just wishful thinking, but it *was* a floor shift). GESO Pool Night Low Light Pics
I finally had a few minutes to render some of my pool night pics. All were shot with the K-3 and the DA* 50-135/2.8 at f4 and ISO 12800. I included a couple of pics that are a bit soft due to motion blur at 1/15th second or thereabouts. Some of the pics in the extremely deep shadow are a it noisier than the rest due to trying to pull up some of the shadows and, in some cases, substantial cropping. Were I to edit this gallery to my taste, half the pics or more would go, but many of these people are friends, and I made the gallery for them. Low light performance seems to be comparable to the K-5 but focus in low light is substantially better. Last year I lost a lot of shots when I couldn’t lock focus. This year I think it only happened once and that was probably m fault. http://photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=1066083 Paul -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Daytona Superbird
in 69 there was the charger daytona and in 70 there was the plymouth superbird, but I dont think there was ever a Daytona superbird. The motor was a 426 hemi, not a 429 unless it was bored and or stroked a little. On 2/21/2014 1:28 PM, Doug Franklin wrote: OK, Cotty, here's your chance!
