I'm told the best quality scan is achieved with a film scanner. Scanning a
print will not produce an equal quality scan, all other things being equal.
Not good news if your trying to obtain optimum scan quality for medium
format images on a limited budget. I've used a N Cool Scan 4000 ED film
It's a bit expensive but I picked up a Panatone Photocal monitor Spyder, for
monitor calibration, a while ago, after using one at a workshop. This
produces a monitor color calibration profile that helps provide consistent,
accurate color displays. Check it out @

Yesterday, while attending a Photoshop workshop, presented by Kodak, one of
the Kodak instructors mentioned that in mid-December, Kodak will bring out a
14 mp, full frame SLR camera that is N+++n compatable for around $4 to 5K
US.

N*K*N sells 2 element diopter close up lenses in several strengths (5T,
6T) all I believe are 58mm. The two element diopter is supposed to be
superior (sharper images) than the single element. Haven't done any testing
but I have used the N*K*N diopters for several years and have no complaints.

I know I'm a bit late but
Pal, FWIW, I put my 600mm FA on my MZ-S and found absolutely no problem in
focusing near or far or in between. This combo seemed to hunt less than the
same lens on my PZ1P. It still refused to focus on very low light subjects
no matter which body I used. The MZ-S seemed to lock on faster than the

I use the Pentax 1.4 X-S (on 70-210mm F 300mm f4.5 FA) and 1.4X-L (on

scene then that automatically becomes your best shot of that scene. I then
