Ron,You don't even need a lathe... just chuck it in your drill press, hold a
hacksaw to it while it's running to cut the head off, then hold a file to it
while spinning to smooth it out - this method has worked well for me.

was in place, when I noticed the smallest amount of rust on a tiny
irreplaceable part of a reproducer. So, in my OCD state of mind, I removed it

Another scam related incident - I just won a music box that was a replica of
a Thorens machine for the minimum bid of $15.00 - parts missing, it really
wasn't worth much more. The seller cancelled the transaction because he/she
said that he/she was not comfortable accepting a Wells Fargo money

Last month we had the privilege of holding our quarterly meeting at the home of
one of our members, Leroy Plyler. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time,
especially when we discovered that his collection of high end mechanical music
machines would rival most high end collections in the US.
I recently found what appears to be a 4 minute conversion kit for an 1898 Home.
It seems to be old stock, in unused condition, with a diamond B reproducer...
all parts are there including the selector switch and an extra spring for the
half-nut and a conversion ring to use an H reproducer in
Thoughts about this machine: It appears to have originated in Montevideo,
Uruguay, per the celluloid dealer tag and also does not appear to have been
drilled for a front mount bracket. Could this have been made by Victor for
South American sales using leftover cases, motors and other parts?
