If it plays OK on Touch (and hopefully also on squeezelite) then it
means the transcode rule is not working or not setup.

Can you play any plain AAC streams on Boom ?

Try the following: http://www.somafm.com/illstreet64.pls

What are the MPEG-4 settings shown in WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes

The DASH log show comms with BBC all went OK and then connection was

but if there are no other DASH plugin messages then the close was from
LMS for a squeezelite player specific reason. ?
Can you repeat test with logging player.source, player.streaming and

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.1.0

2017-08-10 Thread mazeeff

Thanks for all the great feedback, on a very confusing topic! I guess, I
always figured that a 1411kbs stream was better than a 705kbs stream,
which was better than a 320kbs stream. I always thought that we were
getting a better stream using librespot or libspotify, rather than the
standard 320kbs MP3. From what I am hearing, it sounds like we are
getting the same 320kbs stream, simply put into a 705kbs Flac stream. Is
that correct, or do we get some benefit over the standard 320kbs MP3?
Regardless, it sounds fantastic, and has none of the bugs that the new
Kodi Spotify has.

Or if a spotify stream presents replaygain tags so that LMS smartgain
could be used .
Some user do like volume leveling , the smartgain function lets you
preserve diferences on album level but stilll level things in for
example a large party playlist .
If Spotify sends rg tags then it could be users choice win/win

There is no problem resampling - just you need to set it up correctly.
I don't knwo C3PO except that is doesn't always work. I think it makes
assumptions which are not always correct.

Looking at the logs somehting doesn't make sense:

The log says squeezelite sends audio/x-flac but you squeezelite log
says it send audio/L16. At a guess you posted the wrong section of
squeezelite log. Eitrher way - C3PO is the root cause. It may be
easier/simpler just to add resampling to a custom-convert.conf file.

Why - R3 is playing Flac all day long. Flac will play at anytime

Assuming you tried to play R3 Flqac then there is something "wrong" with
your setup - the request is for "audio/L16" it should be "audio/x-flac"

It looks you have some strange Filetype setting or conf file setting or
perhaps a C3PO plugin or perhaps a bridge plugins such as upnpbridge or
chromebridge or raopbridrige

Do you have any of the above plugins installed or have you change your
filetypes from default or changed the conbert.conf file or have a
custom-convert.conf file ?

This is strange, here is why:

The plugin needs some OpenSSL shared libraries. These are binary, not
perl source, so there must be one per CPU architecture and per perl
version. These are often not included with default perl or LMS. So, to
avoid forcing user to mess up with that, I've included a few combination
of CPU/perl. I realized that the 5.24 was missing so I added it (5.24.2)
in 0.70.4 but it seems that 5.24.2 is not compatible with perl 5.24.0,
at least this is what I thought in your case and because you said it was
working before, I assumed that you had these libraries included. The
error on my side was that my shared libraries were taking precedence
over the installed one, if any and this is what I try to correct in
0.70.5, I made an error and then corrected that in 0.71.0. I'll check
again

Your squeezelite is trying to play the 48Khz Flac stream as 44.1Khz L16
stream (i.e. PCM)

Basically "yes" but spotiffy does not use mp3 it's 320kbps OGG with some
encryption added that librespot or libspotify decodes and put out a raw
PCM stream . that we can use as we want usually converting it to flac
for practical reasons .
Other spotify app like the one on the phone has quality settings where
320kbps is their best (low, normal, high) . And i think spotty and triodes
old plugin settled on the best stream .

No benefits but usually 320k OGG is good enough inaudible diffrences for
humans . That said i dont think spotify themself do thier best a
encoding and possibly record companies have uploaded stuff with less
resolution , but on a good day when things are done rigth it should not
be an issue.
But its hard to compare it may not be the same master on spotify as your
own disc if try that.

Its is also about how diffrent apps uses the volume leveling feature of
spotify ?
Triodes defunct plugin had a feature to defeat that ? how librespot is
using it . I dont know .

Also LMS has a feature "Default Adjustment for Remote Streams" for each
player the default is -5dB its usefull for most webradio that can be a
bit loud . But for best spottify performance set this to 0 .

That kbps must be set into context for a LOSSLES codec it mostly tells
you how efficient the LOSSLES compresion is 705kbps as FLAC can cary the
same information as 1411kbps PCM it works just lika zip file .
There are numerous tricks to compress data without losing anything . You
can turn it the other way PCM is quite wasteful , a file with 5 minutes
of absolute silence will have the same size and bitrate as one with
music.

LOSSY compressors do away with information due to psychoacoustic
evaluation model and throw aways stuff your not supposed to hear . The
goal is not only to get a smaller file .
But lowering the bitrate to makes streaming less data intesive .
Here kbps make some sense as you can sort of equate quality with bitrate
but not always .
Trying to grade stuff by a single number usually oversimplifies, the
correlation is not linear and codecs are different and for example an
old mp3 encoder from the 90's would not do very well compared to a
modern one at the same bitrate.

On Spotify's own mobile app's setting for bitrate i keep it on normal
(not the high quality used by spotty ) because it works better on the
move and in the car . In the noisy car and cheap headphones outdoors it
dont matter much.

I'll take a look at the logging on squeezelite. At the moment I invoke

I suspect an error in you command line "-d all=info" is the correct
syntax and the following is sample output at startup. At startup bare

I own a syno ds210+ and spotty appears not to be supported. I assume
that is because we are missing something compiled for ppc853x processors
? Maybe I can help - I do have a background in Perl as well as

really like to get spotty on my DS210+ :-?

Interesting. There is a way to add picore extensions to the picoreplayer
software and when I read your last replay, I attempted to load the
openssl extension, but the software informed me that it was already
installed. Maybe I did it before a long time ago and forgot about it, I
don't know.

Here is what I found
For WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetype
For MPEG-4
AAC NAtive
FLAC faad/flac
MP3 faad/lame
PCM faad

Boom will play the somafm stream.
Boom will play a m4a file from my music folder.
Boom and squeezelite will still not play the Mixcloud stream
This is my example

Hope there are some clues here

So you need the "gapless" set to "no" and then I'd need to see a log
with that configuration

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Squeeze Display for Android

2017-08-10 Thread Candlemass

Hi,

I've just installed SqueezeDisplay on my Amazon Fire TV stick and I have
two feature requests:
1. Add an option to automatically start "Squeeze Player" or "SB Player"
2. Add an option to disable last.fm images or only show them with a
minimum resolution. They look very ugly on my TV screen.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.1.0

2017-08-10 Thread Michael Herger

I own a syno ds210+ and spotty appears not to be supported. I assume
that is because we are missing something compiled for ppc853x processors

Yes.

? Maybe I can help - I do have a background in Perl as well as
"buildmeister" in several environments, and as you have guessed, I would
really like to get spotty on my DS210+ :-?

The problem here is not Perl, but Rust. The helper application is
written in Rust (https://github.com/michaelherger/spotty, using
https://github.com/plietar/librespot). While it's pretty well supported
on many platforms, some of the libraries used by librespot are depending
on C code. And not all of those are properly maintained to cross-compile
successfully. I ended up setting up build environments on all platforms
I support because cross-compilation didn't work. And in some cases the
tools simply are not available to compile on the target platform
(armel...). But I didn't look into PowerPC, to be honest. Feel free to
give it a try and let me know about your findings.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.1.0

2017-08-10 Thread Michael Herger

I support this request; from the librespot GitHub it seems armel should
be supported, can anyone share what is required to get Spotty running on
our old Synology boxes?

Please give it a try and let me know about your findings. I spent more
than a day trying to make Spotty run on my armel based NAS... Some
results from my latest effort:

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty v1.1.0

2017-08-10 Thread mherger

Spotty v1.3.0 is on its way to you! The only new feature is improved
support for Spotify Family (and other multi account situations). In
addition to the old way of switching between accounts, you now can
configure Spotty to provide quick access to the various accounts'
libraries without switching the account.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to improve platform support. Haven't given
up yet. But if 1.2.1 didn't run on your system, then this update won't
run either. I've added 'more information about devices (NAS) known to be
compatible or not'
to the original announcement posting.

Have fun!
