I started putting my own machines together around '84. I didn't have
too much trouble with hardware or matching up to software until the late
90's. Now, it's just more trouble than it's worth. My last 4 machines
have been store bought and, yes, I buy the 3 year extended
PS: Just about anything sold for 800-1200 dollars now would be more than
enough for a good Dev workstation.
