[QUAD-L] Brownies

2006-12-14 Thread Chet Smith
Now don't cheat on this one, go with the first dessert you choose!!! If all
of the desserts listed below were sitting in front of you, which would you
choose (sorry, you can only pick one!) Trust methis is very accurate.
Pick your dessert, and then look to see what psychiatrists think about you.
After taking this dessert personality
test, send this e-mail on to others, but when you do, be sure to put your
choice of dessert in the subject box above.
ALSO, SEND IT TO THE PERSON WHO SENT IT TO YOU. DON'T FORGET TO CHANGE YOUR
DESSERT CHOICE IN THE
SUBJECT BOX BEFORE YOU FORWARD IT.

Here are your choices:
1. Angel Food Cake
2. Brownies
3. Lemon Meringue
4. Vanilla Cake With Chocolate Icing
5. Strawberry Short Cake
6. Chocolate on Chocolate
7. Ice Cream
8. Carrot Cake

No, you can't change your mind once you scroll down,
so think carefully what your choice will
be..

OK - Now that you've made your choice this is what
  the research says about you...

  SCROLL DOWN---No Cheating

  1. ANGEL FOOD CAKE -- Sweet, loving, cuddly. You
love all
warm and fuzzy items. A little nutty at times.
Sometimes
you need an ice cream cone at the end of the
day. Others
perceive you as being childlike and immature at
times.

  2. BROWNIES -- You are adventurous, love new
ideas, and are a champion of underdogs and a
slayer of dragons. When tempers flare up you
whip out your saber. You are always the
oddball with a unique sense of humor and
direction. You tend to be very loyal.

  3. LEMON MERINGUE -- Smooth, sexy,
articulate with your hands, you are an
excellent after-dinner speaker and a good
teacher. But don't try to walk and chew gum
at the same time. A bit of a diva at times,
  but you have many friends.

  4. VANILLA CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE ICING --
  Fun-loving, sassy, humorous, not very
grounded in life; very indecisive and lack
motivation. Everyone enjoys being around you,
but you are a practical joker. Others should
be cautious in making you mad. However, you
  are a friend for life

  5. STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE -- Romantic, warm,
loving. You care about other people, can be
counted on in a pinch and expect the same in
return. Intuitively keen. Can be very
  emotional.

  6. CHOCOLATE ON CHOCOLATE -- Sexy; always
ready to give and receive. Very creative,
  adventurous, ambitious, and passionate. You
can appear to have a cold exterior but are
warm on the inside. Not afraid to take
chances. Will not settle for anything average
  in life. Love to
  laugh.

  7. ICE CREAM -- You like sports, whether it
be baseball, football, basketball, or soccer.
If you could, you would like to participate,
but you enjoy watching sports. You don't like
  to give up
the remote control. You tend to be
  self-centered and high maintenance.

  8. CARROT CAKE -- You are a very fun loving
person, who likes to laugh. You are fun to be
with. People like to hang out with you. You
are a very warm hearted person and a little
quirky at times. You have many loyal friends.

  Hi Henry,
I have FrontPage 2001 and I just clicked on the help for FrontPage and went
to the Index part. I typed in thumbnail and it told me how to insert a picture
file. I have my pictures in the My Documents folder I work with. Try clicking
on the Help in FrontPage 2002 or while you are using FrontPage, you can just
push key labeled F1 on the keyboard and it should take you to Help. If I can
help with anything else let me know.

 Best Regards, Chet
Is there anyone on the quad list that is familiar with FrontPage 2002?

I am having a problem with the thumbnail feature.

  Thanks

[QUAD-L] Pecan in the Cemetary

2006-10-27 Thread Chet Smith
On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just Inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the Tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he Thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to Investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for You, one for me."He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls."The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you See ;it's hard for me to walk." When the boy insisted though, the man Hobbled slowly to the cemetery.Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for You, one for me..."The old man whispered, "Boy, you’ve been telling me the truth. Let's See if we can see the Lord."Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still Unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought Iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a Glimpse of the LordAt last they heard, "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go Get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done."They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes ahead of The kid on the bike.Smile, God Loves You!!!

2006-10-03 Thread Chet Smith
Hi Mark and Dave, If the program is for a pacific type of computer like for instance a Dell, Compaq, or Hewlett-Packard. The best way to put it on another computer is to take WinZip and Zip up the folder of the programs name which will be located in your Program Files Folder that iswhere it is on the computer you are trying to move it from and if you got away to put it on a CD or have a Zip Drive with a USB Cable, you can then transfer the program that is Zipped up to the computer you want it on. Then you must use WinZip program to unzip it to the computer you want it on. Then you take the folder after it is unzipped and put it in the Program FilesFolder on the second computer where you want to use it at. Be sure that you have show all hidden files and folders working before you Zip up the program folders namein your Program Files Folder. You can use Hotmail to send up to 3 megabytes through the
e-mail also. That is another way to transfer files. It will not transfer folders, there for you need to use WinZip to make the folder into a .zip file. Hi Amye and Henry, You could take the music CD and put it in one of your CD-ROM drawers then go to My Computer, highlight the CD drawer you put your CD in and then right click. Go down the list until you get Explore. Left click on Explore, you will then see the tracks that is on the CD. Select the track you want to use by highlighting it, Go up to Edit at the top, left click copy and copy it to a place that you won't forget where it is at on your computer. I usually copy it to my desktop or to My Music folder that is in My Documents folder. From there it will play on your computer using Windows Media Player without the CD in the drawer. You can do with Any Music Cd's you have. This will work if you are running eitherWindows XP or Windows XP Professional. to be one of the latest ones or have a program that does what your trying to do. They give good skin protection as am nine years into my injury with no buttocks breakdowns. In short if you need ultimate protection on your but and dont care about the downsides a roho is for you. I have the answer to a Stinky Chair if you got one. My Caregiver uses a Stain and Odor Remover called "Natures Miracle Just for Cats" that you get from a Pet Supply Store that cures all the Stink whether you Pooped, Pissed, or did something else while sitting in your Chair. It can be diluted and used as a spray also for the right away cure for Foul Odor. I use the Deep Contour Jay Cushion and the smell is mainly on the Jell part of the Cushion but, it is good to use it on both parts, the Jell and the Cover.Happy Motoring PeoplesChet ( Cquad7 )P.S. Hi Glenn, I recently started using a Foley Catheter and have used a Leg Bag for years to drain into. I also have the Big Quad Gut also and so I use a Leg Bag that holds 19 ounces which is connected with rubber tubing from the Bag to theOuter End of the Foley Catheter. That is my suggestion to try if you can. I also wear a Leg Strap to keep from the pulling on the Catheter.Chet ( Cquad7 )[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello,I am looking for suggestions on Ostomy products. After 40 years post SCI my posture is not the greatest and the internal organs have probably rearranged a little

[QUAD-L] Question

2006-08-24 Thread Chet Smith
I myself don't get depressed, I get pissed off but never depressed. I feel like I was supposed to go out of this World Fighting since what has already happen to me I can not change that back to being what we called "Normal" again, so I do that, I am Fighting everyday now,soI don't have time for depression to really sink in. Taking meds for depression is just another drug you got to have someone else to dish up for you to take with water or soda. I am on enough meds already that I don't enjoy having someone give me them let aslone more. Look for the good side of being Paralyzed even though you think it is not there, spend your time finding it and other thoughts of being depressed will subside. Life is a Gift and you didn't die when it was your time when you had your accident so, be a possitive Person for others to Admire. I am not in your shoes but, they have a saying that goes "Walk a Day in My Shoes" and us People with a SCI is saying "Give Me
that Chance". Then we find out that we were so wrong to ask to do that because now I am worse off. I am now having to go get my Kidneys Flushed where before I ask the question, I didn't have to deal with that 3 times a week. It can only get worse before it gets better if you are not careful.Don't Worry Be Happy... Chet ( Cquad7 )

[QUAD-L] Shoes

2005-11-04 Thread Chet Smith

I've went to the best store for shoes, Wal-Mart and they are very reasonable
on there prices too. I bought me a set of Hiking Boots one half size bigger
than I wear and also "wide width" which is very important because of the
swelling of the feet during the day when your sitting in the what I call "The
PresidentsQuad Chair". I feel important but I am wise enough not to make
any decisions for thepeople of the U.S.A. . "Smiling" I got some Nike Tennis
Shoes that give me a red mark on my heal after two days of wearing them.
That ain't good, I got some of the other brand of tennis shoes that made my
heal do the same. So I done figured it out that, I can't wear tennis shoes longer
than two days. "LOL" So I hike around in my Quickie 646 wheelie chair. So,
this could have been a shorter e-mail but I had to drag it out and the only thing
I can suggest for shoes to wear is try some out after your foot heals and when
you find some that doesn't make your foot get sore, keepem. Those that give
give you aeven just a red markwithin 3 to 4days, return them and try another
pair. I would also have anyone putting on a lace type shoe, un-lace the shoe
atleast half way down before trying to put it on. Keep your toe nails trimmed off
which would be the very best of care also. It was Neglect on your Nurse not
to un-tie the laces down half way or check your toe nails for trimming that you
had to spend time in the Hospital. If she could offelt what she did to you, I
guarantee she or any other person would not dothat everagain. Good Luck
with the Healing and hope it all turns out back to normal for you.

has been the Primary Caregiver for me every since I came home and she was
70 years old back then. She now 86 going on 87 yrs. old and still doing it. She
uses digital stimulation. In the hospital when I first got hurt, they were taking
my bowels every other day. I was going out on myself in there also in between
the two days.

 Hello David,
Sometimes it is a loose stool but, I've been taking Imodium AD every third night
to keep it in check or Imight as well stay in bed because it becomes very loose
because I enjoy eating vegatables more than I do meat. Such vegatables as
raw Celery, Carrots, Cabbage, Broccoli, and Califlower. Mostly Celery and Carrots
cause the other ones put a lot of gas on my stomach. I haven't read the web site
yet but I will after I get this e-mail off.

I want to Thank You both for your responce to this e-mail and as I read some
of the other replys to this situation I am dealing with, when and if the others
read this here e-mail, it will answer there questions as well.

No wonder so many people say Google's search engine can find anything for

you!

1- Go to Google (http://www.google.com)

2- Type in the word "Failure"

3- Instead of clicking "Google Search," click "I'm Feeling Lucky."

4- Giggle

5- Spread the word before the people at Google "fix" it.

 Hello Penny,
Just speaking for myself on what you wrote about being a "Super Quad". I don';t
really belong on the list of being one of those kind of "Quads", I think I am one of
the people that "The Man up Above" did not want at the time of my accident. I
was left here to gossip, tell a true story, and enjoy what Life has remaining for me
before I "Go to Heaven" with who's on this list, plus all the others that may not
either can't afford a computer or can but doesn't care to exchange their thoughts
with other people, or just don't care for these nasty computers to mess with.
After 8 years messing with this computer stuff I've aged 14 years cause the
computer can and will drive you either crazy in Love or just plumb crazy.

I really do thank you for the kind words you wrote and "God Bless"
You for thinking of all the other people here on the [ Quad-List ]the
way you said. I also like these here people too, they are all a real
bunch of nuts. Thereare Hazel Nuts, Walnuts, Pecans, Almonds,
Cashews, ect. "LOL" I hope they know I am kidding.

I hope all is well with you and come back anytime with some words from
your Mind. They say "A Mind is a Shame to Waste", but it's to late for
me.

I have been reading the post and find it amazing that you all do not see yourselves as "super individuals," I certainly find you all that way. Whenever I start to slip into a "pity party" attitude I come online and always find a post that picks me up. I know that is not the intention of the poster because rarely are any posts directed to me, but just reading what most of you face and how you all deal with each issueencourages me. I think that each and every person on this list is incredible, and in my mind it proves the old saying "that which does not kill you only makes you stronger" Recently, here locally and in some surrounding towns they had an unsung hero's tribute, and I think I'd have to say that my hero's can be found on this list. You might be surprised at the impact you have on peoples lives that youtouch. What I find sad is that most of youare rarely told how
important you are, so I did not want to miss out on the opportunity to let you know what my thoughts are.

Well it got so much worse that it took six weeks for it to
finally heal completely and if it weren't for using the Bag Balm
10 days in to trying to get it to close up. Other words I had
someone putting Iodine 10% for the first 10 days and nothing

Re: [QUAD-L] Choosing a van ... Full or Mini

2005-08-10 Thread Chet Smith
I have a 1993 Ford Aerostar that I got three years ago with a lift
on the side already. I went 13 years without any transportation except
for the Dial-a-Ride and the other handicap Van with drivers that
I thought my Life was over one day going to a Doctor's App. .
The butthead went to pass a truck when another truck was going to pull
outfrom a side street, the driver drove 70 miles per hour cause
he was late getting to the house and he wanted metheir on time.
Since then I've had to ride in ambulances on that little gurney
and hated it all the way their and back. I have to bend over double
drive my wheelchair backwards on to the lift ramp, then have to
turn to the left and make my front wheels just so they are where the
safety stop clears my wheels, be lifted up praying each time it
doesn't break and then back on up with a quarter of a inch
clearance between the lift and my back tires on each side to be
able to gothrough the threshole. Once I am in and the lift is in the
foldingposition, I got one inch clearance from hittingthe tip of my
shoes,I then get tied down on all four corners of my chair to go for
a ride. But my Gosh!!! I am so thankful to have my own transpor-
 tation.

Lori Michaelson [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Thing is ... the pros cons DO make it difficult to decide.

Common sense here but I've had 3 full-sized vans with 3 different lifts. With the full I liked the indoor maneuvering space and easierto travel with that space. I DON'T miss the bulk of it, the gas hogs they are or the longer wait on the lift unfolding, loading, refolding ESPECIALLY in freezing weather.

I now have a Braun Entervan (minivan) and love to just zoom up the ramp ... little wait. Better gas mileage. And not so bulky to drive around in. The lowered floors make a bumpier ride (bothers my back) but if it's not lowered I can't see out.

So I have no idea which choice to make next. I WANT to put a ball on the back to pull a smallU-haul and I'd like the bigger indoor space but, then againI love the mini-van ramps. *sigh* Choices, decisions, ugh!

I did get a pressure sore from sitting to long that put me in bed turning from
side to side for three weeks. A person should always take the time out to
take their weight shifts around 2 to 2 1/2 hours apart and you will never hardly
get a sore that keeps you out of your chair. It also depends on the type of
Cushion you are sitting on. I have the Deep Contour Jay Cushion. I tried the
Rojo Cushion but, it made me red within 1 hour of sitting. That's all I got to
say.

[QUAD-L] i'm so depressed i could throw up

2005-07-22 Thread Chet Smith
What to say anymore about being depressed about stuff that doesn't
seemed to help with your self asteam or your mind for that matter. We
as Quads or Para's have to set standards for the people that are walking
as we were at one time, that we are the toughest minded, spirited, let
alone craziest people God ever chose for us to Live our Lives sitting down
and having helppeople have a job helping us Live. We are Blessed that
we not only survived our ordeal of each of our accidents we had, but we
help Doctor's have money with our UTI's we have, Pharmicists who can
fill more subscriptions we need for our muscle spazms and all other
medications we may need. Heck we are the Strongest People known
to Mankind who not only can go as fast as 5 m.p.h. in our chairs and
actually run the walking people into the ground before our chairs run
out of power as long as we have them gassed up before we go up
against one them. "LOL" Depression or being depressed is a part of
every living soul here on Earth. Beating it before it gets to you so badly
is very hard to do and I have no clue to what to tell others "how to beat
it". The first two years of my disability was the hardest time, crying most
the time watching others on the news having their troubles hurt me. I
was giving a choice either stop or I can't be taking care of you and that
came from my Mothers Mouth. Talking about feeling worse about my
own Mother telling me that "I'm gonna have to give it up if you keep up",
I just felt terrible that I was hurting Her as well as hurting myself inside.
Let Depression in the front door but then give it awhile to try and take over
your Life then, give yourself a big ole muscle spazm and give it a swift
kick out the window.

It goes up to 90-100 diastolic and returns to 70s when he lies down. It will continue to climb if he does not lie down. He has had his kidneys checked and he has two very small stones and the dr thinks that they are not causing the problem. He has had a head CT ( he also has hydrocephalus) and the neurosurgeon say it looks better then ever. Soo.. they did an abdominal scan and he has a gall stone in bad position. Re: [QUAD-L] Caths!

2005-07-22 Thread Chet Smith
 Hello Silas,
How are you doing? In responce to this Cathing every four hours or wearing
a indewling catheter. Two years after my accident I had what the Doctor calls
a "Sphincteronomy", it where they cut the Sphincter Muscle that controls
when you pee. Well when you could know in your mind it was time to go,
your mind would tell the Sphincter Muscle let it go. This is geting a little to
juicy to keep explaining it. "LOL" You need to see a Urologis in order to have
the operation. After you have the operation, you can then wear a external
catheter called a "Texas Catheter" and use a leg bag drainage system during
the day, and night drainage system while in bed. It gives you more freedom so,
the catheters after the operation will be called "Freedom Catheters". I use it
and theres no need to find a bush again big enough to go pee.

No offence to any people who reads this, it's my nickle worth of words.
I really don't know who it isherehas this depression enough to make them
want to throw up. I have read many posts about what people think about
what can happen if this problem persists for the person. There isn't anyway
for someone else to fix this but the person feeling that away. Many times I
have felt like driving my wheechair out to the Canal and taking the plunge
but, how many besides myself would feel sorry for me. I would hurt my Mother
more after she hasgave up most of her Life to take care of me. She was 70
years old when I was 30 and 1/2 years old when I become a Quad. Depression
is in all sitting or walking people that runs into a problem they think it can't
be fixed or rather are confused on how can I get it fixed? Talking to others
has always been a help to me and even though I ain't a Church going person,
I will Hope and Prayto that person whom has this notion of throwing up
because of being depressed, that that feelinggoes away real soon.

This Say's it All

A Woman and a Fork There was a young woman who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as she was getting her Things "in order," she contacted her Pastor and had him come to her house to discuss certain aspects of her final wishes. She told him which songs she wanted sung at the service, what scriptures she would like read, and what outfit she wanted to be buried in. Everything was in order and the Pastor was preparing to leave when the young woman suddenly remembered something very important to her. "There's one more thing," she said excitedly. "What's that?" came the Pastor's reply. This is very important," the young wo!

continued. "I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand." The Pastor stood looking at the young woman, not knowing quite what to say. That surprises you, doesn't it?" the young woman asked. "Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request," said the Pastor. The young woman explained. "My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement. In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say, 'Keep your fork.' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming...li!

So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder "What's with the fork?" Then I want you to tell them: "Keep your fork the best is yet to come." The Pastor's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young woman good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see her before her death. But he also knew that the young woman had a better grasp of heaven than he did. She had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice her age, with twice as much experience and knowledge. She KNEW that something better was
coming. At the funeral people were walking by the young woman's casket and they saw the cloak she was wearing and the fork placed in her right hand. Over and over, the Pastor heard the question, "What's with the fork?" And over and over he smiled. During his message, the Pastor told the people of the conversation he had with the young woman shortly before she died He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to her. He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either. He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is y!

[QUAD-L] Leg Bag

2005-07-09 Thread Chet Smith
 Hello Joan,
I to would like to see how it works and looks like if you dont mind.

Thank You, Chet ( Cquad7 )

Regarding the Velcro straps on the back of the leg rest, my daughter designed an awesome bag that acts as a leg support, and also conceals my leg bag when I am wearing shorts. It makes my leg bag so discreet that even OT's and PT's do not realize I am wearing a leg bag.
My leg rest, and foot rests, are not swing away, but instead are modeled after the sport wheelchair leg rests. However, the fabric bag just Velcro's on, so it would be relatively easy to just unVelcro it to swing the legrest away.Joan

[QUAD-L] Medicaid's new program regarding W/C ~ NOT good at all

2005-07-09 Thread Chet Smith

 Hello Bobbie,
To bad you couldn't come to California for around Six Months. They are like that
here about replacing wheelchairs like New Jersey is. How baddoes your chair look
and what is needed for it to be nice again? If you could get a estimate on what it
would take to make it good for you and present it to Medicaid, it's a possibilty they
may change there tune and purchase you another chair. If they refuse replacement,
they ought to concider atleast making it reliable for you. I don't know your level of
Injury.

Chet ( Cquad7 ) C-6 C-7

In a message dated 7/8/2005 3:33:44 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

OK, here's the story.I went to my seating guy about possibly ordering a new power chair. He told me about a new (6 months old) recycling program for Medicaid recipients. I can order a brand new power chair BUT they will send me what they have in their storage instead. For instance: I could say I want a 2005Invacare Action and they will pull out of their warehouse an Invacare Action and give it to me as my "new" chair regardless of what year it was made! I can refuse it but the process is VERY long and dragged out with no garentee's. AND once you accept the new or newer chair, they come and take your old chair to be recycled. So now you don't have a back up.
My seating guy told me of a long time power w/c user that order a chair and Medicaid sent her a 10 year old power chair! They can't even fix it if something goes wrong with it because it's so old!
My seating guy suggested since my other chair is 12 years old that I should upgrade my "new" 5 year old chair including adding on a tilt.
So, that's the story in New Jersey's Medicaid wheelchair recycling program.
