2008-03-23 Thread SCIQuad96

Welcome Joan.

And welcome to my world. Isn't it lovely how our states handle the
money...Instead of having someone look at the chair (to conform the repairs)
and save
at the least $15,000. No, they would rather spend it.
It's too confusing to me.
Anyhow, this goes for anything that is not bought by Medicaid i.e. bed,
shower chair and as you know the power chair.
Although, I'm having my own problems with my new power wheelchair...it's now
become a piece of furniture...I'm still using a twelve year old wheelchair.
My bed was bought twelve years ago, by my primary ins. and now I need new
wheels. Well, as you stated...they (Medicaid will not pay because they didn't
buy it.

I could ramble on, but I'm hungry...

Joan writes:

The entire wheelchairs/repairs/parts procedure is so antiquated. I purchased
my own chair because I had no insurance and I was not eligible for Medicare
until I turned 65. So I come into the Medicare System with my own chair. I
now need batteries, tires, and am surprised to find out that Medicare will not
supply anything for my chair because they did not buy the chair for me.
I ran through their entire obstacle course with switch back turns, hoops to
jump through, and even past their local fire breathing dragon J. Only to be
told by the very top supervisor-her own words-that the best bet for me would
be to order a new chair. I explained to her that these were not a dime a
dozen wheelchair, with tilt and recline and all the other bills and whistles
we
were looking at $20,000 plus. She said that is OK, we can then maintain it for
you!
What is wrong with this system?
I really have a problem with going ahead and buying a new wheelchair when I
have the chair of my dreams and for the first time I feel safe when I am out
and about by myself. I can get around most of the obstacles that I encounter,
do not have to look for curb cuts, drive sideways on our hillside without
feeling that the chair is ready to run downhill, etc etc and so forth.
Have any others of you run into this problem? Is there another answer?

Yet, only 23 hours of PCA (weekly) is covered here. Some folks are

myself, in the

Now, I do hear ya on what their pay is...it's about the same here too.

Re: [QUAD-L] Don't Park In The Handicap Spot

2007-12-28 Thread SCIQuad96
I love this persons reply from the site:

--
-

The whole point of a gimp spot is so that someone who uses a wheelchair can
get the damn thing out of the car/van/truck,THAT’S what the extra
(cross-hatched)space is FOR,particularly someone with a lift who can’t get out
otherwise
and would get blocked in without that extra space being respected.I can’t
count how many time some asshole has parked on the cross-hatching making
impossible for me to get back into my car (without getting someone to move it
or
waiting for the asshole). They always reply the same way,no apology just some
lame excuse. The same one I hear when I have to wait outside a larger stall in
an airport shitter for the guy to wipe his ass mid-turd because I pounded on
his door saying “you better be in a wheelchair!” . I always asks “do you know
why they build this bigger stall?” they never answer the question and rarely
apologize, way too many actually get mad.
Back to parking spots,I think people who need a van with a lift or ramp or
extra space for a WHEELCHAIR would love a spot at the far end of the parking
lot that the lazy,”sore-toes” or lazy sore-toes wouldn’t use leaving them
open for people who actually NEED them.
To answer the people that think there are too many spots that nobody ever
uses which makes them frustrated (whaaainnh!) To gimps like me the spots are
always FULL with people that can walk and are very far from needing a
wheelchair. They start limping extra heavy when I cruise by from the other end
of the
parking lot where I had to park against a curb or wall where no-one can block
me in.

2007-10-27 Thread SCIQuad96

This is again (IMHO) is due to the many, many years of abuse to the system.

Keith/34/C4-5/NJ

You will learn in time that obtaining a new chair these days is a lot more
difficult today than it was just 5 years ago. Especially if CMS is paying for
that chair. First, is the order from a licensed doctor in rehab medicine, to
see an Occupational Therapist for a complete evaluation based on medical
needs. The
evaluation goes back to the doctor for another order to the DME. The DME
will then determine what is best for you, with your help and assistance and
submit those findings to Gov Insurance to determine if they will be paid for
the
perfect chair. Sometimes they get a yes and other times they get a no.
Submittals have to be adjusted and justifications have to be properly coded
and
submitted.

The process could take 6 months to a year. Maybe longer. Sometimes shorter.
Ask around and evaluate each answer, based on its user and needs.

Best Wishes

It has been a good chair but it is 4.5 years old with my butt in it almost
everyday between 8 to 14 hours. A few signs of wear are becoming evident. I
figure I'll get my new back replacement and batteries then get them started on
a replacement.

This is why (IMHO) that federal and state waivers are sooo burnt out. Many
people just seem to want another something (after it's in good shape) just
becuase. Spend, spend, spend.

After 11 years in my only chair, I've decided to get another one due to wear

[QUAD-L] Brother wants me in a home

It's the second time he (older brother) has brought this up in less then 4
months. (I'd hate to see what he'll do if his wife or children were like this.)

With that said, my folks and myself included no longer want him here. He is
just so fixed on what others in my family are doing to help. Like God for bid
he does anymore then someone else in the family...and that to boot was rare.

Not to mention my twin just got his schedule changed at his job due to the
advancement in his position. It put him from night shift to morning shift.

So, now I face a big dilemma in my life because my folks are older and
cannot do everything for me. i.e.; getting me in and out of bed.

But I've looked around for grants or financial assistants to help me pay for
a one rail ceiling lift so it would be less stressful on whomever had to
transfer me.

Any suggestion would help please...

PS. It's crazy to think that I'd be fighting my family to stay in the

Corie, I have sensations from my head to my toes. Although, it is slightly
altered below my chest I can still feel the bloating of my belly and if I have
bowel left in me. The latter works to my advantage most of the time, but by
morning if all I did to remove my bowel failed I know I'm going to have a
miserable day. Either just by the feeling the urge to go all day or by knowing
my situation and being miserable because of it.
If I know fully well that I'll go later then I won't even attempted to get
up in my wheelchair. My day will be shot laying in bed waiting until the
feeling passes or waiting until the package is delivered onto my chucks.

usually eliminate over the toilet on my shower/commode chair after 15-30
minutes.
When I get back into bed, just to make sure I have got it all out, I will
have a digital and get any remaining stool out. Most of the time I do not
have
anything left. I take 4 fiber capsules and two stool softener/laxatives

2007-10-07 Thread SCIQuad96
Hi Shelly,

I for one only do my bowel routines on Monday Thursday nights beginning at
7 PM. The reason for nights is ... if there is still some more to come out I
won't be in my power chair, but I'll be on some chucks in bed.

Early on in Quadhood my programs where every other day, but that got to
crazy because I always had to figure out if I was going to miss something
planned
... days, weeks or even months a head of time.

Now, if I were to use just a suppository or an enema. I'd have a huge delay
in my program. So, what I do (and others) is to use senna or sennicot 8.6 mg
pills. I take 2 and a half 10-12 hours in advance of my BR to allow for these
pills to work on bringing my stool down in my body. I'll even take a 50 mg
capsule of colace at the same time to keep the stool from becoming to formed.

I hope this helps,

To this day I still use it. Everything works fine still. The cost was

Well, first off...forgive me to have pointed you out. I truly thought that
your posting was from an ANTI.

The reason behind these shootings are to keep these wolves population in
check. And at best they are only done in certain areas of Alaska to help keep
the caribou's population up. As crazy as this sounds, if this didn't happen the

wolves would overload the caribou herds.

They have been doing this since the mid 70's on and off.

Be truthful the last I heard they were spading the wolves and relocating
them.

Again...sorry for pointing your post out. I do live in New Jersey and the

I'm just wondering what your rules are? meaning...

1. How many members in league 8, 10, 12.
2. How many players are drafted/player roster -example- QB, RB, RB, WR, WR,
WR, TE, K, DEF
3, Since it's a live draft...how long per pick? 1 minute per pick or 90 sec.

Well, I thank you for posting the offer.

If I hear from you...I'll make an account up ASAP and join. Not to mention,
I'll need to start my future draft outlook too.

Really promising technology, but I hope they consider the individuals that
don't have the use of their limbs. There are cell phones out there and
laptops which will only allow a person to use certain things if they are able
to
touch them with a finger. They react to the body heat and do not function
when a mouth stick or an object like that is used to interact with it.
Just saw one quadriplegic who was using a less sophisticated cell phone with
a mouth stick a month ago, having difficulty with his new one because it
relies solely on the finger touching a portion of the screen. The mouth stick
doesn't do the trick.

[QUAD-L] I'm in a dilemma...Need help.

2007-06-19 Thread SCIQuad96
I live with my folks and my brothers (two) come by and help out every
morning of everyday. (Basics listed) dressed and placed in chair. One gets
here
before work and the other comes here from work.

At nights they switch off every other night to put me back in bed with
my/our Father.

My Mother does my personal care. Mondays Fridays along with setting my up
for the night in bed everyday.

This has been going on for 11 years and they need a break. Actually, one
brother stopped and said no more last week.

Now, I do know this has went on too long already with them helping, but I
never changed it...now I must.

My aide that comes during the day cannot do what my brothers and Father do
because of her strength. So, I've looked into getting a male CHHA but out of
the only two agencies around me there is none. My only choice I see is an
Assisted Living Center and if I go here I don't want it to be here in New
Jersey.

May I ask you guys/gals for some suggestions? I'd love to head out to
Arizona, but I don't know how the state is towards the disabled. It seems
popular
though.

[QUAD-L] The Pentecostal Family Review

2006-01-15 Thread SCIQuad96

They believe that the ability to speak in tongues is a necessary indication of a valid religious conversion.. They deny the legitimacy of the conversion of "born again" Christians from other denominations where tongues are rarely, if ever, spoken. "No tongues - no salvation." So, for example, they would regard essentially all Southern Baptists as unsaved, even though most had repented of their sins and trusted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

They share with other "Oneness Pentecostals" the practice of baptizing in the name of Jesus Christ only. (See Acts 2:38) Almost all Christian denominations follow Matthew 28:19 and baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

They believe that anyone who is not baptized in the name of Jesus only will not be accepted into heaven when they die. That would include almost the entire human race.

They reject the traditional concept of the Trinity. They do not believe that the Godhead is composed of three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They believe that God is a unity, a Spirit, who has manifested himself in three roles or "offices, roles, or relationship to humanity." An analogy would be a single man who plays three different roles: that of father, son, and husband -- either sequentially or at the same time. This concept is frequently misunderstood by individuals and groups outside of the UPCI; the denomination are often condemned as a cult because of the confusion over the UPCI's precise understanding of the nature of God.

In common with many other Pentecostal denominations, their religious service includes footwashing in emulation of Jesus and his followers.

Members are forbidden to join the Masonic Order and other "secret societies."

Strict dress and hair codes are followed, particularly for women.

Attendance at movies or watching of television is not permitted.

PS. I'm not part of this...just wanted to share.

That'll be neat to have a jogging trail near the home. My advise for you would be, check out if there is any soft sand on or nearby these trails. This becomes my main problem when getting to my hunting blind. (Another story)

Anyway, I too have traveled the streets around my way for as far as 5-6 miles round trip. At the time, I never had a fear the chair would breakdown while on my little ventures. Unfortunately, for me, the wires to my one motor started shorten out at home while in the winter time last year. I guess I was lucky too.
Anyhow, now I tend to stay in a 4 mile radius of my house when I do go out, but also letting someone know where I'm heading. Just in case.
Keep in mind...new batteries tend to give an average of 20 miles of battery life to a charge. Not sure I trust 20 miles, but that is what most are spected out to be.
