2010-02-22 Thread banane
I was helping a client with their Radiant installation- and the
Gallery never showed up, and I was trying to help some of the content
writers and editors use it. The asset ID # is a bit cludgy and clumsy
to use. So went to another group and they suggested using the
paperclip but with a different asset management console. So now we
draw basically what's in the asset directories, and the user just
clicks on the image to insert it into the content pane. Similar to
the ethos of Radiant, it's pretty basic and utilitarian, but also
extensible.

You need to make sure that the copy of Lowpro is current. The JS issue wasn't
directly with Paperclipped, but with the version of Lowpro that was packaged
with it. If that doesn't help, please let me know and I will help you figure

How old is Paperclipped? There was an issue with the JS that it used
which did not work in Firefox 3.5. I think you may find something by
searching the list... or just update Paperclipped to a later version!

It's in the ImageMagick documentation:

http://www.imagemagick.org/script/binary-releases.php#macosx

Also, do the command-line test to turn the logo.gif into a logo. That will
test that ImageMagick is instlaled right.

Yes, it works.
I read in Paperclipped readme:
The configuration settings also enable a list of the allowed file
types, maximum file size and should you need it, the path to your
installation of Image Magick (this should not be needed, but I
sometimes had a problem when using mod_rails).

How i can write path for my ImageMagick installation?

Have you tried running your app with Mongrel or Webrick? I know that's
not really best for a production environment, but it might help figuring
out where the problem is. I was having problems with Paperclipped making
thumbnails with Passenger, but everything works perfectly well with

If its a javascript problem then its at the client end not the server end.

I tracked this down by borrowing a Windows machine and using and old
version of IE. Things worked perfectly. Perhaps you can try other
browsers too.

I think you did.
I think you did what I did.
Paperclipped 'broke' on me after it had been working.

Eventually I tracked it down to a upgrade of Firefox that had happened
automatically.

I mentioned this to Keith Bingman and he thought it likely and the fault
probably in lowpro.js.

He suggested:
Run rake radiant:extensions:paperclip:update to install the
latest js.If that doesn't work, replace the file lowpro.js with
the current one form github. that should help.

I'll be trying that tomorrow :-)

I think that bug was recently fixed. Firefox 3.5 created some problems
and LowPro had to be updated. Try downloading the latest version of
paperclipped and running rake radiant:extensions:paperclipped:update.
This will install the newest javascripts.

Re: [Radiant] Paperclipped assets bucket not showing

2009-07-30 Thread Keith Bingman
I think that bug was recently fixed. Firefox 3.5 created some problems
and LowPro had to be updated. Try downloading the latest version of
paperclipped and running rake radiant:extensions:paperclipped:update.
This will install the newest javascripts.

What extensions do you have that add Javascript to the interface?
Have you looked at any console errors in something like FireBug?

OK, that makes sense. I'll probably be reminding the users of that

I even set up a clean Radiant installation with paperclipped as the

extension and it still isn't accessible on new pages, so the problem
isn't related to conflicts with other extensions.

Is paperclipped supposed to be accessible on new pages? I didn't see
anything in the documentation to indicate that it isn't, but I might
have overlooked something.

Re: [Radiant] paperclipped

2009-01-31 Thread Steven Southard

I've resolved the problem or at least it works okay now.

My code looked like this:

def flush_deletes #:nodoc:
logger.info("[paperclip] Deleting files for #{name}")
@queued_for_delete.each do |path|
  begin
logger.info("[paperclip] -> #{path}")
FileUtils.rm(path) if File.exist?(path)
  rescue Errno::ENOENT => e
# ignore file-not-found, let everything else pass
  end
  begin
while(true)
  path = File.dirname(path)
  FileUtils.rmdir(path)
end
  rescue Errno::ENOTEMPTY, Errno::ENOENT, Errno::EINVAL,
Errno::ENOTDIR

# Stop trying to remove parent directories
  end
end
@queued_for_delete = []
  end

When I compared it to Oldham's code I noticed that mine had this extra:

 begin
while(true)
  path = File.dirname(path)
  FileUtils.rmdir(path)
end
  rescue Errno::ENOTEMPTY, Errno::ENOENT, Errno::EINVAL,
Errno::ENOTDIR

# Stop trying to remove parent directories
  end

Once I removed it the extension worked without error.

Thanks for your help.

It doesn't, at least if it is the same as the one I have installed.
Here's the code:

 def flush_deletes #:nodoc:
   logger.info("[paperclip] Deleting files for #{name}")
   @queued_for_delete.each do |path|
 begin
   logger.info("[paperclip] -> #{path}")
   FileUtils.rm(path) if File.exist?(path)
 rescue Errno::ENOENT => e
   # ignore file-not-found, let everything else pass
 end
   end
   @queued_for_delete = []
 end
   end

File.exist? returns true for files and directories. But unless I
have an old version of paperclipped that doesn't call FileUtils.rm,
the Ruby docs say specifically that FileUtils.rm does not remove
directories. And to be really safe, it should use
FileUtils.remove_entry_secure.

Steven, you might try a quick patch and change FileUtils.rm to
FileUtils.remove_entry_secure (or FileUtils.rm_rf like Sean suggests
if you are not terribly worried about security) in vendor/extensions/
paperclipped/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/storage.rb

It doesn't, at least if it is the same as the one I have installed.
Here's the code:

  def flush_deletes #:nodoc:
logger.info("[paperclip] Deleting files for #{name}")
@queued_for_delete.each do |path|
  begin
logger.info("[paperclip] -> #{path}")
FileUtils.rm(path) if File.exist?(path)
  rescue Errno::ENOENT => e
# ignore file-not-found, let everything else pass
  end
end
@queued_for_delete = []
  end
end

File.exist? returns true for files and directories. But unless I have
an old version of paperclipped that doesn't call FileUtils.rm, the
Ruby docs say specifically that FileUtils.rm does not remove
directories. And to be really safe, it should use
FileUtils.remove_entry_secure.

Steven, you might try a quick patch and change FileUtils.rm to
FileUtils.remove_entry_secure (or FileUtils.rm_rf like Sean suggests
if you are not terribly worried about security) in vendor/extensions/
paperclipped/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/storage.rb

Unfortunately I don't have access to a Solaris machine to test on.

Solaris has a reputation for being "different"--most of the Mac and

I'm using the most recent release of paperclipped and I've tried it

It's a good extension and to those out there that are able to use

The setting migration is only for the descriptions in the Settings
plugin. That has nothing to do with the actual function of the
paperclipped extension. There was a problem with deleting images if
the bucket had never been used, I am pretty sure I squashed that
though. Be sure you have the latest version of the paperclipped
extension from github and then take a look at the production log from
your server, that will tell you what the 500 error is. An older
version of the extension gave me the same problem and the update fixed
it. Let me know if you need more help.

Re: [Radiant] Paperclipped with more complex image manipulation

2009-01-25 Thread Keith Bingman

Hi Jeff,

I don't think there is any way to do this without accessing the new
features in the Paperclip plugin (which paperclipped just accesses).

If I understand correctly, you want to fill the image, this is not
really the idea behind paperclipped. It is more for storing assets and
images that will be used, not for creating elements of the design

The size arguments do not directly access ImageMagick, rather they go
through the paperclip plugin api. You may want to check out their
google group, I think that hooks for just this sort of thing have been
recently added.

It works with other mime-types, but you have to specify them using the
Settings extension. You may also need to pare (sp?) down the number of
mime-types listed as well, because sometimes that field in settings is
truncated. It's really no big deal, just take out the mime-types you'll
never use (and there are a few) and replace them with the ones you need.

I have no problems using paperclipped, but I am using it with 0.6.9, though.

Would the asset happen to be a non-image file like a PDF or Word
document? I couldn't get past this problem, hence I went with
page_attachments, but others on this list have gotten it working.

I haven't tried it out yet with 0.7 yet at all. Are you using
passenger to test or mongrel. In the past I have had problems with
uploading and passenger in the development environment, but hitting
submit again uploads it when it hangs. This does not happen in
production and has been noted on the Paperclip mailing list.

Hope that helps a bit.

Re: [SOLVED] Re: [Radiant] Paperclipped + flash video files.

2008-10-21 Thread Andrew Neil
I'm very interested to hear of your experience with MIME types and
browsers. I've just written an audio_player extension[1], which uses
paperclip to deal with attaching audio files. The flash player that
I'm using can only play mp3s, so I want to limit the MIME type to that
format. I've set up some validation in the model, as follows:

http://github.com/nelstrom/radiant-audio_player-extension/tree/master/app/models/audio.rb#L12-14

I was quite puzzled when I tested the attachment of an mp3 file to an
Audio model. Using the exact same mp3 file, I tried creating the model
through the Radiant admin (in the browser), and I tried doing it
through script/console (at the command line). I was able to attach the
MP3 file by both methods, but found that the MIME type was saved as
audio/mpeg when I uploaded through the browser, and as application/x-
mp3 when created at the console. So it does look as though the browser
is... opinionated, when it comes to mime types.

Luckily, paperclip seems to be happy with both of these formats, but I
did have to broaden the conditions for my model validation to let both
of these through.

Cheers,
Drew

maybe paperclip should be patched to use mimetype-fu. it's pretty
inadequate for anything other than basic file types at the moment:

   # Infer the MIME-type of the file from the extension.
   def content_type
 type = (self.path.match(/\.(\w+)$/)[1] rescue "octet-

 case type
 when %r"jpe?g" then "image/jpeg"

 when %r"png", "gif", "bmp" then "image/#{type}"
 when "txt" then "text/plain"
 when %r"html?" then "text/html"

 else "application/x-#{type}"

On Kubuntu create a ~/.mime.types file with

(The master mime-type file is /etc/mime.types)

I do not know if this affects windows Firefox or how you would add
the

mime-type in windows.
