I agree with all the comments here but there is another reason to go single
speed and thats SPEED. I regularly rode geared and single speed bikes over
rolling countryside paved roads often back to back and the single speed was
invariably faster. The same holds true when i went offroad and
milled down, as is
typical of
Nitto-made bars.

Hi, I ride a Toyo AHH with Rene Herse Barlow Pass (700cx38) with fenders.
I doubt you could go any larger with fenders and the 38 wide runs smoothly
and holds the road well. Hope that helps.

saddle on one of my bikes -
you can clearly see that the bag loops on the saddle are too close
together for the bag.
I have no familiarity with the Mente, but I own quite a few Aspin &
Aravis saddles. My Carradice Barley lines up just fine with the bag
slots on the Aspin/Aravis.
