Re: [RBW] Re: Likely FS soon: Rambouillet 60 & Legolas 59

2018-09-03 Thread Reed Kennedy
Yeah, I’ve never heard of a frame that thin gauge in a size that big.
Probably because it won’t work well. But nobody seems to know for sure as
nobody I’ve talked to has tried it.

I think I know someone who’d build me such a thing, I’m just stalling
because I’m hesitant to spend money (and ask a builder to spend their time)
on an experiment that might end up unrideable and get recycled.

Re: [RBW] Re: Likely FS soon: Rambouillet 60 & Legolas 59

2018-09-03 Thread Lum Gim Fong
Based in my experience with os rivtubing bikes:
Bleriot -8/5/8- excellent on flats and downhills/bogs down going uphill. Both
53 and 55cm frames.
Sam Hillborne-same exact ride as Bleriot. 52cm blue frame.
Rambouillet- 8/5/8 but thinner walled stays and ST than Sam and Bleriot. Alot
easier uphill than Bleriot and Sam. Excellent on flats and downhills.
Roadeo-excellent downhill/flats/way easier uphills never bogs down. 6/4/6 53 cm
frame

YMMV depending on tubing used for the bigger frames.
The Rambouillet is definitely one of the faster rivbikes and most beautiful to
my eye.

Re: [RBW] Upright bars and romulus

2018-09-03 Thread Ash
Since last year I have been riding Appaloosa with various upright bars
(Choco, Alba, Jones Loop, Open Bar, Bosco..).Occasionally I take my
road bike for short rides. Its drop bar has been made much less aggressive
using a raiser stem. Yet, after riding fully upright bars, it feels very
uncomfortable. First I get pain in the back of my neck. After 30 mins of
riding shoulders, arms and wrist pads too start to hurt.

Currently I have Boscos on Appaloosa. With this setup
I can rider for 6-7 hrs without any severe
pain/discomfort. Usually I'm exhausted of peddling before any upper body
issues start! I also enjoy being able to see more surroundings along the
way.

A very good point, Ian. I "knew" that, but sure wasn't remembering it
during this conversation. The Roadeo I test-rode at Riv definitely felt
more similar to my 9/6/9 standard diameter bikes. So subjective though!

I remain tempted to beg some poor frame builder to make 200lbs me a 64cm
7/4/7 standard diameter frame, just to see what happens.

Maybe that'll be my reward for selling all the bikes I don't ride. ::grin::

[RBW] Widest tire for a Saluki

2018-09-03 Thread 'frank_a' via RBW Owners Bunch
 Justin,
I sold you that Saluki and I used to run the Schwalbe”fatties” that Riv used
to sell. I think they were labeled 52 wide but measured about 47. That was
about the limit on that frame. It is the later model with the kickstand plate
which has more clearance than the first run Salukis. I have a first run 60cm
and it will handle the Cazaderos but not the “fatties”. The Switchback Hill
will fit your frame.

[RBW] Re: Soma San Marcos size for 87.5cm PBH

2018-09-03 Thread 'Tony McG' via RBW Owners Bunch
My PBH is 89 cm, and I ride a 59 San Marcos with plenty of seatpost.
According to the geometry chart, there is only .1" between the two sizes.
The 59 has 2 top tubes where the 57 will only have 1, if that matters to
you. The 57 is designed for 650b, and 59 is 700c.

[RBW] Soma San Marcos size for 87.5cm PBH

2018-09-03 Thread Momo
Hi folks,

I've taken a measurement of my PBH and I came with 87.5cm.

I have a choice of Soma San Marcos frames - a 57 or a 59.

I'm not sure which one to get. Does anyone out there ride a San Marcos of
57 or 59 with a similar PBH?

The San Marcos geo is here:

http://www.somafab.com/archives/product/san-marcos-frame-set

Please help me with this quandary!

Thanks,

M

[RBW] FS: Berthoud GB25 Front Bag, Brooks Cambium C-13

2018-09-03 Thread Taz Taylor

For sale: As new Berthoud GB25 in French Blue. $185 plus shipping
(approx. $10)

I bought this but then went in a different direction using a Rivendell
Sackville bag and Nitto F15 instead of the GB and a decaleur.

So this bag is completely unused and unmodified, never installed.

Brooks Cambium C-13 132 with carbon rails. Mounted and ridden briefly
(less than 10 miles). $135 plus shipping.

Tried to install on my older French touring bike with a Laprade seat post
but the clamp wasn't compatible. (then discovered that locating a decent
26.6 seat post wasn't the easiest so stuck with my B-17). Works fine with
the modern Campy and Thomson seat posts I tested.

May have a matching set of Berthoud handlebar and saddle bags (gray)
available in near future. These are used so I'll need take some pics.

Thanks,

Taz in ATL

Jason,

The first/top ones I believe. I do have some but they are needed for a
build. That said, if I find extras in the parts stash, I will let you
know. I did call Paul's at one point to see if they had them directly but
they sent me back to Rivendell in my search. Hopefully they will make
another batch and be offered again.

[RBW] Re: Not so permanent Basket + Rack

2018-09-03 Thread Ash
Hi Roberta, with this mechanism, the basket is wobbly by nature. Feels
like it may fall off, but it hasn't. I think it will be fine for 10 lbs
or so cargo (a little more maybe, on wider racks) as long as you slow down
on bumps.

Here's a picture from when I had loaded it with two 6-packs and a few more
things. https://photos.app.goo.gl/pcVf21fG8SUcV8Hr9

It was 5-mile ride from the store. It held up fine.

[RBW] silver shifter adapter for Paul thumbies

2018-09-03 Thread Coal Bee Rye Anne
Hi Jason,

The silver adapter is a small baseplate that slips between the flat, squared
base of the shimano thumbies and the silver shifter... It looks like downtube
shifter mounts with the protruding cylinder with flats. I’d consider selling
mine except my wife who had been using my Silver shifters as downtubers just
recently mentioned wanting a change... likely to bar mounted index shifting...
so I’ll want to hang on to them for a future thumbie build or possibly sell the
whole set of shifter/adapter/thumbies together.

Weird that Riv no longer has them. There’s still a link on the Riv Paul
thumbies page but goes nowhere. Maybe they sold through stock and won’t
replenish with silver 2.0 in the works?

[RBW] silver shifter adapter for Paul thumbies

2018-09-03 Thread jandrews
Hello, I have an older (non-hinged) pair of Paul thumbies for Shimano
shifters. I'd like to use Dia-Compe (Silver) friction shift levers on the
mounts. I know Riv used to sell an adapter to make this work, but I don't
believe it's available on their site any longer. Does anyone know which
piece is needed? or does anyone have this they'd like to sell?
Thank you
Jason
