A lot depends on the performance of the tone decoder you use. I have a couple of repeaters using Zetron 38A controllers that detect the tone way down in the noise, and one of them is operating with the squelch open so it is only controlled by the tone. It will stay keyed reliably with no

PL is no cure for interference or desence, it just hides it until someone actually tries to use the repeater. Yep. All the more reason to require PL'd inputs and make sure that systems don't have compatible PL tones with the one on the reverse...
