Thanks, that's what I was thinking and hoping for was to treat it as
obstructed construction w/low sprinklers. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't

If I'm reading 8.6.5.1.2 correctly, it says if you are against the wall- the
soffit has to be 30 or under to be able to use this.
Anything over 30 that is against the wall would require additional
sprinklers. Or am I having another Monday today?

NO you aren't missing anything--you are correct all the way. I was looking
at the wrong chart. When you replied last - I double checked where I was
looking (at the correct chart for the incorrect sprinkler).

Sometimes the Owner's Certificate supplied in NFPA-13 4.3 can be of
assistance to you. You can then forward that info to the AHJ, and you'll
have it on file as well for those unclear surprises in storage at the last
minute.

Thanks,
That was the outcome that I had came up with, but didn't want to bump heads
with the AHJ until I had received some feed back from experience. Just in
case I was missing something and to see how some of you might have handled
this.
Again thanks to all!!

hydrants. The city hydrants meet this so we're ok on that.
Thanks for the artillery; I'm waiting on a call back from them. I'll let you

Are you saying the entire unit is above the deflector and nothing is below?
If this is the case then you don't worry about the obstruction rule, but if
the UH is lowered below the deflector -- then it becomes an obstruction.

I don't know all of the dimensions and distances in your particular case,
but try applying 8.12.5.2 - this is more for the U.H. than 8.12.5.1

On a second note my AFSA Fire Sprinkler School Book states that it is
obstructed construction although most AHJ's will consider it unobstructed.

My pricing was about .81 cents higher than the Reliable--I don't know what
yours will be.
Do you agree with EC in this situation per NFPA then?
