The situation is unchanged for me after updating LMS8 to build
1597639997 this morning: "Bad repository
https://repos.squeezecommunity.org/extensions.xml - Connect timed out:"
But http://www.herger.net/slim-plugins/test.xml loads. This is on Linux
X86_64. As bpa has pointed out, my IO::Socket::SSL is old (2.002) so I'm
probably overdue for an OS upgrade.

The error message first appears in my server log on Friday night, but
that's North American time. By the time the first error message appeared
here, it would have been nearly 5:00 a.m. Saturday your time. Could it
be related? I can't even guess!

LMS 8 nightly; 3 Squeezelite players connected by powerline ethernet; 5
wireless players connected via Airplay Bridge; 1 SqueezeAmp player
no high-end or esoteric audio gear
1 Squeezebox Radio (upgraded UE Smart Radio) now mostly retired

Yep upgrading to 7.9.3 has fixed it, thanks. Should of checked this

Just out of curiosity - and as this issue seems to have arisen over the
weekend - I looked at what updates Win10 may have slipped into the
system. These are the only date-applicatble ones I can see on my set-up
- and I wouldn't have thought they could have sone much

The https / XML / timeout below is appearing on many different threads.
They seem to be mainly from 7.9.2 Windows users. My suspicons is
somethginhttpos related - perhaps sometihng like a minimum level TLS
support has been changed or an "old" LMS HTTPS issue is happening.

7.9.3 Windows seems to fix for many.

Relating to something in other threads (where folks are reporting
freezes with 7.9.2, with all seeming fixed with a manual update to
7.9.3), when would the auto-update (if user-chosen) from 7.9.1 to 7.9.2
have happened? Most of the "unavailable repository" problems do seem to
have arisen over this past weekend or was the update to 7.9.2 well
before this?

which causes LMS to fail during startup. (I've had to remove https/http

That version of IO::Socket::SSL is only in the squeezeboxserver CPAN
library, so I assume that it is the latest version included in the
nightly builds.

Windows version of LMS has all CPAN modules bundled together - so
Windows build of LMS will always have a "good" version. Users of the
slimserver.exe build of LMS cannot update CPAN modules separate from
LMS.

Linux and OSX require io::Sc ocket::SSL modules to be installed
separately and are often tied to the distro release so with an old OS
release (e.g. 3-4 years) , it is likely that latest IO::Socket::SSL is
also old.

That wasn't my description, it was a quote from the previous poster.
But, as it happens, that IS also true of mine. Seems likely to be the

Also LMS8 on Debian. I'm also seeing this error for the squeezecommunity
url, but not for Michael's test repository. The Plugins tab loads
without crashing and displays this error at the top of the page:
Code:

Bad repository https://repos.squeezecommunity.org/extensions.xml - Connect
timed out:

There are no Third Party Plugins on that page, but the three entries in
"Michael's Slim'n'Scary Stuff" still appear.

The url https://repos.squeezecommunity.org/extensions.xml loads in my
browser. Perhaps it contains formatting errors? I cannot tell.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Accessing Plugin tab in settings (web interface) crashes LMS. How to debug?

2020-08-16 Thread RRB

Hi there.

My first attempt at using LMS, all started well. I am using Picoreplayer
on a Pi4. When I come to add on plugins that section of LMS webportal
seems to be there once, when selecting plugins and click apply it hangs
with a blank screen where plugins were.

I am also having issues accessing via port 9000. But Picore takes me to
the LMS setup page.

As I said completely newbie to LMS and pi so any help gratefully
received!

cheers

Ok, first, yeah, I had the problem accessing port 9000 as well. Thing is
too many things were happening at once, so I'm unsure of the steps taken
to remedy it. I am now running latest 7.9.3 available and everything

But yeah, I too have this

Greetings,

Setup : LMS 7.9.2 on Windows 10 2004.

Since today I am experiencing a similar issue, yesterday and the days
before all was fine.
Consistently when clicking the plugins tab LMS server simply stops ( 2
out of 3 times).
The server log only shows the following lines , repeated 20-30 times :

[20-08-16 14:36:59.0127] Slim::Networking::Repositories::__ANON__ (149)
https lookup failed - trying plain text http instead:

Failed to fetch https://repos.squeezecommunity.org/extensions.xml:
Connect timed out: Bad file descriptor

Pasting the link into chrome shows the correct xml file.
Re-installed 7.9.2 from scratch , same issue.
Installed 7.8.0 , problem gone.
Installed 7.9.0 , problem gone.

Will probably wait for 7.9.3 to come out of beta.

You'll see a couple of other current threads about recent problems with
big LMS crashes, and problems accessing Port 9000. The crash on hitting
PlugIns was one of the many symptoms I had (though I didn't mention it
in the thread I started). The solution to all the issues seems simply
to be to upadate to 7.9.3. 7.9.2 seems to be doing some very odd things
to a lot of folks..

Ok, thanks for the last bit of information but, again, I'm not managing
to explain myself.

Spotty is *gone*. Completely. The plugins settings page I refer to is
this:

In that page (I am not going there now because the server is scanning
the library right now) there is no Spotty installed. But accessing the
page, even after removing Spotty, caused the service to stop once more.
Hence my desire to try to debug this once and for all.

If it has been deleted then there is no settings page. So something has
not been deleted maybe due to permissions (e.g. a file changed by a
logged user and not LMS userid) .

Using Windows file explorer make sure there is no Spotty directory in
"InstalledPlugins\Plugins" and restart LMS and check again - LMS will
reinstall if plugin is marked to be installed.

Given many of the errors relate to "permissions" of either the file or
directory - check the permission of the identified files & directories
and the user id which is running LMS as a service.

No other crashes. The service stops. Checked with services.msc, it
simply stops. And I would like to know what could I activate in debug
log to try and troubleshoot this behavior. Other than activating
everything, which is something I might even resort to if needed.

Problem is the stopping thing is now not consistent. It happened once,
don't know how to replicate it. So if I activate everything and keep it
going, waiting for the crash, log file might get gigantic, I'm afraid.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Accessing Plugin tab in settings (web interface) crashes LMS. How to debug?

2020-08-15 Thread gorman

Yesterday, after my machine completely crashed after a game had a bad
RAM leak, I met with a strange behavior from LMS. I mention the crash as
I am not sure that the two things are linked but it happened so... worth
mentioning it, I guess.

So... LMS started crashing and I did not know why. At first I thought it
was Squeezelite-X, as I outlined 'here'

But then I found this in LMS logs:

So I tried uninstalling Spotty. But it was already not installed,
according to LMS. This was strange, as it was installed before and I had
never uninstalled it. I tried manually deleting the folder but it was
telling me some files were in use.
So when trying to access the plugins tab in settings, LMS basically
crashed and the service stopped. Sometimes it did this, sometimes it
didn't, with no particular pattern I could discern.

I retried deleting the installation folders and I discovered that it was
the spotty.exe file still in use by... spotty.exe. I brought up task
manager (Windows 10 Pro x64) and I discovered *nine* instances of
spotty.exe running. So I force stopped them and then I restarted LMS.
Everything seemed to work fine at that point.

BUT, when accessing the plugin tab in settings I had a couple of other
crashes, with the LMS service stopping.

I wanted to ask what specific debug settings I could try activate in
logs to get to the bottom of this. I would avoid reinstalling everything
from scratch, if at all possible.
Thank you.
