Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Stopping and other weirdness

If I want to roll back, I noticed I have a bunch of 7.9.0 builds.
Is there a final "official" version of 7.9.0 that is preferred?

http://downloads.slimdevices.com/LogitechMediaServer_v7.9.0/

That's the officially in-official release. But I'd go with 7.9.1
already. There are important updates for streaming of https sources in
there. If pushing out a release wasn't such a pain, I'd have done it
already...

Ah - forgot I rolled back to the last release. When I have some time, I
will install the latest nightly and report back.

You're running the released 7.9.0. There haven't been any updates to
this build.

That said, how does the server determine when an update is available and

There's the release, and there are nightly builds. If you're running a
release (stable) version, then you'll only get notified once the next
stable release is out. Which has not happened yet.

If you're running nightlies, then you get the notification whenever
there's a new build (sometimes daily, sometimes less often).

Quick update on this - I closed the Squeezebox ports on my router after
my last post and everything has been fine since.

However, I have not seen any notices that a new version is available,
nor have I updated to any of the nightly builds either.
If I manually check for updates through the Web UI, it also says no
updated version available.
At some point I will install a nightly and see if those plugins get
enabled again.

That said, how does the server determine when an update is available and
why was I getting them fairly regularly before but not now?

Currently holding at v7.9.0 r1488878280.

lol understood, however I don't see any suspicious connections over the
past week. Could it be these settings are cached on mysqueezebox.com?
Either way, I will disable those ports for now and see what happens the
next time I install a nightly build.
In the meantime, where do the prefs from Picture Gallery get stored
(files paths). Is there somewhere I could check to see if they still
exist?
I did not get a chance to look at the Controller last night, so I don't
know if the plugin somehow wound up back in it.

Entirely possible, but I honestly don't believe (or at least don't want

As before, it the hang appears to have occurred during a scan after
installing one of the nightly builds.
One of the directories that got thrown back into the Picture Gallery
settings is a very specific/somewhat obscured directory on a network
drive.
I log traffic so will have a look there just in case. I will also enable
debugging before I install another nightly.
One thing I can't check at the moment is whether or not the plugin is
back in my Controller.

Thanks again.

Hi Michael and thanks for the reply.

Yes, but they are mapped/accessed from ports other than the default.

Either way, where else would any config info be stored? i.e., from where
would those previously entered paths get pulled again?

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Stopping and other weirdness

2017-03-20 Thread rdeckard

So out of the blue, my server stopped on its own again. Checked the
server log and sure enough, same errors as last time.
Restarted and somehow both the "Image Browser" and "Picture Gallery"
plugins were present again.
The same image paths were still in the Picture Gallery settings.

I had previously cleared the search paths, unchecked both plugins,
restarted the server and rebooted my Controller (thanks *mherger*) and
everything had been fine until 3/16/17.
Possibly worth mentioning, after unchecking those plugins and restarting
this time, Picture Gallery no longer shows up anywhere on the plugins
page, only Image Browser.
Also, my library had new files in it that were not present previously.
When I checked the Basic Settings tab, C:\Users and a network drive were
somehow added...???

I do recall installing a nightly within the last few weeks so that has
to be at least part of the issue. Literally nothing else has changed
other than adding new music to the library.

Everything is back to normal now, but is there any way I can stop this
from happening aside from never installing another nightly build?

Thanks!

Just reboot the devices. It's a limitation in the firmware which would

The only players I have with screens are a Radio and a Controller - it
was in the Controller.
Yes I definitely unchecked it on the web interface, applied/restarted,
but it returned, possibly because it is installed as an "Extra" in the
Controller.
I re-enabled the plugin to clear the paths in the "Picture Gallery"
settings, applied, then disabled the plugin again (looks like Image
Browser has nothing to do with it, only "Picture Gallery").
My Controller still lists the plugin under Extras, but if selected it
just spins forever until you hit the back button. I let it go for quite
a while and it never timed out on it's own.

I would like to just completely remove the plugin from my Controller/LMS
server, but haven't figured out how to do that yet.
I don't recall if this was something in there by default, or if I had to
manually add it at some point (it's been years since I messed with any
of this stuff on that level).

Also worth mentioning, "Image Browser" did not return to the active
plugins list, only "Picture Gallery".

BTW, didn't realize the link I found was a reference to an actual

Hi Roland0 - Appreciate your input. I initially thought the same thing
as well, but as I said previously, I am certain those files have been
there for years. There's no reason I would have added/deleted anything
from those specific directories (at least not within the time frame that
I started having problems) and I even checked the created/modified dates
which are from 2007-ish, so I'm leaning towards something having changed
on the server side (possibly something to do with image processing?). I
probably could have just fixed/removed those images to keep the plugins
enabled, but since I don't use them I was fine with disabling.

wliptrot - Did you get to the bottom of this? If you want to see what
(if any) files were causing your issues with those plugins enabled, it
should show in the server.log file at the completion of a media scan
with just the default debugging settings. I did not have to enable any
additional logging to see those errors in my log file.

I'm in the process of confirming, but within 48hrs of adding these
plugins back in, my LMS service needed restarting. This was after 6
clear weeks, so looking good confirmation of repeating the issue.

I like the plugins though, so once I am happy they are part of root
cause, I'll dig deeper to find the rogue files or whatever.

Denon:- at the times of my troubles, I thought I had narrowed it down to
my separate outbuilding. The Denon has "always ON" network, but when
the building is unoccupied, the alarm cuts Power to socket outlets. I
suspected this disturbance. But it also coincided with my Touch changes
too.

I think I'm on the right track with your findingsand yes, I do
upgrade to 7.9 Nightly when I remember

I hope you have sorted thisI have suffered a few months back too -
needing to restart the LMS service on my WHS2011 daily. I did loads and
loads of stuff, and never got to the bottom of itwith a new
controller being suspected, along with my Denon AVR "network always on"
being a concern when mains powering off.

But I use a Touch with the wallpaper to display imagesand I'm going
to see if those plugins were the root cause. Many thanks for posting...

I have now performed the following scans:

- Full scan after stopping the server and running the cache folder
cleanup option.
- Clear library and rescan everything.
- Look for new and changed media files.

Each time the scan finished successfully with NO errors in the server
log, but more importantly, the server is no longer longer stopping when
a scan completes!

Hopefully my scheduled 4am rescan will complete in the same fashion.

Everything is pointing to one or both of those plugins, or at least to
the files mentioned in the errors.
However, I am 100% certain that those files have been there for years,
so something must have changed on the server side.

I can't pinpoint exactly when or why this started happening, but as I
have no need for those plugins, problem solved!

Hi,

did you checke your m3u/pls and lnk files aswell?
If one of these files points to d:\ or tmp lms does follow them.

Some more info - Server definitely stopping after any scan with those
same errors.
Figured I'd see if there were any plugins that were given those paths
listed in the errors.

Sure enough, had a plugin called "Picture Gallery" enabled - not sure
why it was there, possibly added long ago in order to use custom images
on my Radio (which I never did), but that is in fact where those paths
were being referenced.
I've disabled that and an "Image Browser" plugin, both by the same
author, Michael Herger. Hopefully this solves my issue. I'll know as
soon as the scan I just started is finished.

Not sure exactly when this problem started, but I guess those plugins
are no longer compatible.

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS Stopping and other weirdness

2016-12-30 Thread rdeckard

Happy holidays everyone. I'm always thankful there's a place to go with
people who continue to develop and support what is probably the most
used "appliance" in my house ;)

Unfortunately, I've been having some issues lately and am hoping I can
get some insight or suggestions.

I've been installing the nightly builds pretty religiously for the past
year or so and things have been fine up until the past couple of
months.
I don't do much with my LMS server machine (Windows 7 x64, Core i7, 8GB
RAM), but I do keep whatever software is on there updated (including
Windows), etc.
I'll do my best to describe the symptoms and what troubleshooting I've
done so far.

For a while now, every time I've gone to use any of my Squeezeboxes
(Duet/Controller, Boom, Radio), they cannot connect to my LMS server.
I log into the server to find the LMS icon in the system tray gray,
indicating the server has stopped. I start the server and everything is
fine until the next time I go to use it (typically the next day).
Being that this seems to occur every day now, I looked towards possible
library issues, as I perform a scan every day at 4am.

This morning my 7am alarm in the Radio failed to go off (again). Of
course when I looked, the Radio could not connect to the server.

I looked at the server log and saw some strange things:

The scanner log appears normal/clean, but I do not have any extra debug
flags enabled other than the default at the moment.

My library points to a single directory on the local server, which has
shortcuts to folders on a single mapped network drive (another Windows
machine). I've used this config since day one without issue.
I do not have any options for pictures or other files to be included in
my library (I'm pretty sure 7.9 doesn't even let you do this anymore
anyway?).
What is most odd about this is that the the paths indicated in the
messages above are not defined ANYWHERE in my library or elsewhere that
I can see.
To clarify, D:\ is a local drive on the server, T:\ is another mapped
network drive on the server, neither of which are supposed to be in my
library.

Lastly (possibly unrelated), one recent afternoon, every Squeezebox in
the house came on full blast to some random track in my library (same
track on all players).
I had not touched anything since the day before and all devices were off
at the time.

If there are no potential solutions at this time, I'm thinking I should
go back to a 7.9 build from earlier this
