Would it be possible for you to give some indiction of what exactly is
the problem? inserts or attaches are No go means nothing.

Jim check out this site: http://www.mozilla.org/community/etiquette.html

These ground rules to the Mozilla Newsgroups

In particular:

Do not send binary attachments, including screen shots, and especially
including screen shots of textual dialog boxes. Many people read these
messages through slow network connections; try to be respectful of them.
If you have a large file that you would like to distribute, put it on a
Web page and announce the URL instead of attaching it. The only
exception is mozilla.support.screenshots.

and

Keep in mind that not everyone uses mail or news readers that can easily
display HTML messages. Consequently, you will reach a larger audience if
you post in plain-text. Many people simply ignore HTML messages, because
it takes a nontrivial amount of effort to read them. HTML posts in
mozilla.support.screenshots are allowed.

You cannot insert an image or attach an image. Out of respect to others,
post using plain text not html.

Hope this helps.

I did not follow this thread closely but, FWIW, although always I keep
my Inbox empty - which makes using new mails easier, but this is just me
- I did occasionally found the content of some emails to be blank. After
first thinking it was the sender's mistake, I found that moving those
blanks to a different folder of my IN mail structure sometimes solved
the problem, or that shutting down SM and opening them in TB did the trick.

I have no explanation for this, it seems to happen, very seldom,
randomly. My opinion is, it has nothing to do with the size of the Inbox
(although I strongly agree with what others said about keeping it of a
reasonable size, if only to minimize risks) or of the email, but with
the way the email is displayed. There are probably multiple possible
causes to this and I am there clearly out of my depth.

Well, it's not really normal (inherent in what SeaMonkey needs to do to

It's apparently a bug that SeaMonkey re-scans some plug-ins (or extensions?)
directory before displaying each message. I don't remember any more details,
so try searching the list archives (several months ago).

Upgrade to SM 2.0.a3. ;)

I only say that, because that is the only thing that solved the same
problem for me.

I opened SeaMonkey one afternoon, and was greeted with the account
wizard. I clicked out of it, and my accounts were there, but there was
this bizarre rogue News account, exactly as you describe.

I removed the account using Mail Newsgroup Account Settings, but it
reappeared the next time I started SeaMonkey.

I clsed SeaMonkey and removed the News folder in the, well News folder
of the profile. It came back as soon as I restarted. I combined the
two operations. It came back.

I am quite sure that the change to the alpha was what did it so much as
the fact that it creates a new profile. You could probably create a new
profile and migrate your data from the old to the new. I am quite sure
that would fix it, but I was going to test the alpha anyway, so what the
heck. Fortunately, 2.0 has progressed to the point that zI can use it
as a day to day browser and mail/news/rss client quite comfortably.

The funny thing about the rogue account was that it was functional. I
could subscribe to groups and read them. However, When I cloised and
reopened, they would all be gone.

So I suggest three options;

1) Just live with it. It doesn't cause any problem, other then being
annoying.

2) Create a new profile, test to make sure its okay, then migrate your data.

3) Try the alpha.

Option 1 might be the best course until 2.0 hits beta. There are still
some glitches, though I can attest that its going to be agreat product.

By the way, this funny News account only appeared on my gracefully aging
iMac G5. My Intel Macbook has been just fine.

So to be on the safe side help Mac people with that problem, I would

Question: I've had this problem from time to time but its years since
I have had the problem:

In my list of news Servers there is one that get regenerated called
news and email address is shown as User invalid. I've tried to figure
out what components in the Pref.js file to to delete. I've tried
figuring out using both a text editor or the built in config editor.
And I tried going to account wizard and killing the account named News.

I am using SM 1.1.14 but I've had this on going problem from time to
tie every since the first version of Mozilla came out.

You would think after about 10 years some one would come up with a way
to prevent this from happening.

I'd like to fix. all it is annoying but. with My age and patience. I
can't abide annoyances.

Once this question is answered; I'll get off the list and leave it to
the PC only crowd.

Ah well... I've heard the PC people are snobbish boors, but didn't want
to believe it.

I've known some wonderful people who are...I mean USE PCs. Seems a bit odd!

Most PC people are not. but there some that are still arrogant to think
that no one deserves support except PC people.

I'll really be sorry to have you go.

click on Edit, Mail Newsgroups Account Settings, select the account,
and look under Server Settings, then on the bottom right, you will see
Local Directory. Copy that. Now, remove the server. Close SM, then
look in the profile and remove all the left over files and folders for
that account. Now, in prefs.js look for the Local Directory and remove
all the lines associated to that.

Thanks I'll see if I can figure out.
I'll copy these instructions.

Try highlighting in 'Account Setting' then hit 'Remove Account'. Close
SM open'Profiles' and remove folder. This works for me on the
occasions the same has happened.

Margaret
I've tried removing from Accounts in accounts the quit and remove all
traces of anything to with *news* only in in the News folder in profile
folder; rc files, folders and of course the .msf files anything to do
news only.

There is something Preference.js file that supposed to generate the new
item but it supposed to have nothing in it and allow for you to put in a
sever name then and only then is it supposed to show up.

Sorry can't help with Preference.js file, that's beyond my

Oh, Phillip has been told many times that Mac support is welcome. By

That may be so, but its odd when it happened no one came down hard on

I am quite sure that the change to the alpha was what did it so much
as the fact that it creates a new profile. You could probably create
a new profile and migrate your data from the old to the new. I am
quite sure that would fix it, but I was going to test the alpha
anyway, so what the heck. Fortunately, 2.0 has progressed to the
point that zI can use it as a day to day browser and mail/news/rss
client quite comfortably.

The funny thing about the rogue account was that it was functional. I
could subscribe to groups and read them. However, When I cloised and
reopened, they would all be gone.

So I suggest three options;

1) Just live with it. It doesn't cause any problem, other then being
annoying.

2) Create a new profile, test to make sure its okay, then migrate your
data.

3) Try the alpha.

Option 1 might be the best course until 2.0 hits beta. There are
still some glitches, though I can attest that its going to be agreat
product.

By the way, this funny News account only appeared on my gracefully
aging iMac G5. My Intel Macbook has been just fine.

I'm assuming you meant 1.1.14. I'm almost glad to see that this has
affected a Windows user as well.

The upgrade suggestion was tongue in cheek, of course. Its good,
very good, but it is an alpha.

Take a look at Grant/Peter's suggestion to Phillip, concerning
removing the account, and editing pref.js. My suggestion of creating a
new profile and moving the data basically accomplishes the same thing,
the new profile has a new prefs.js. That should solve the issue.
