Most times I can restart WE and then read the dialog and hit the close

Re: 9.4 Upgrade

2016-03-10 Thread John's Gmail via Talk
Hi all, I just did the 9.4 upgrade and I must admit I am quite pleased. I had
been using 9.1 and thought it was not working nearly as well as older versions
of Window-Eyes. Joined this list just to see what other people are saying about
when the wise. I have been using it GW might grow products since about 1991 or
two.

I use excel in office tan more than most any other program and I am using a
laptop with windows 10. The one problem I had with window wise nine and 9.1 was
that when I went into a spreadsheet nothing would read until I hit the alt key
twice. This problem seems to still be in WE 9.4. What might be causing it and
what can I do to cure it?

Re: Control alt f WE9.4 goes silent, crashes keyboard, and crashesexplorer in Thunderbird, I.E11, and Elite

2016-03-10 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
The keyboard navigation keys for the menus in IE 11 and Thunderbird work
exactly the same whether the menu is visible or not. Alt still focuses
the menu bar and Alt-F, Alt-E, Alt-V, etc. open the related menus. So I
have no idea what the point of Control-Alt-F is.

In IE it Brings up menu bar. You can go to view and toolbars and check
menu and then you don't need to use this command.

I have done the 9.4 upgrade on my laptop and desktop. On my laptop, I
did the automatic upgrade and setup did take a long time to start
without any speech, but setup eventually completed normally. On my

seemed to proceed much faster.

I feel that the 9.4 upgrade is much more responsive and I'm glad that I
upgraded!

Why would you need NVDA to install a new version of Window-eyes? It
should talk you through the entire instal process, both while upgrading,
and afterwords when the system reboots and installs all the default
apps. you shouldn't need another screenreader unless your system is set
up differently.

Re: Notification Overflow, what exactly is it, and how to prevent it?

2016-03-10 Thread Larry Higgins via Talk
Well Rod, I was just a little confused, and I'm sure I still am, as to
what exactly this represents. I've heard of stack overflow, something I
ran into at times with XP, and a bit more often with the 9X series, but
not at all as of yet with 8.1. But I guess this isn't in any way related
to that, or is it?
I really haven't noticed any degradation of performance, so I take it
that it isn't something I need to be all that concerned about?

Hope this is making some sense .

Take care, and good to hear from you,

I think there's no way to free up space in the notification area in order to
prevent things getting dumped in the overflow.
If there were, I'd certainly pull the plug on the notification area to let
some liquid out. Smile

Without wanting to sound completely ignorant, the question in the

I take it that the space allowed for these notifications is full, and

Re: Get Window-Eyes 9.4 for the best Windows Experience

2016-03-10 Thread Pamela Dominguez via Talk
So far, I am noticing a big difference since I have downloaded 9.4.
Response seems a lot snappier, everything is right there under my fingers.
Like, if I am reading an email, I finish, and hit escape and delete, the
next one is right there for me to enter on, instead of making me wait. And
I, so far, haven't had to get irritated by all the repetition when window
eyes is reading me the email. That's all I've checked out so far, but from
what I can tell, way to go, GW! Pam.

did. The only problem I had was when it got to the setup, it didn't come

came on, and I was able to finish it just fine. Pam.

Why would you need NVDA to install a new version of Window-eyes? It
should talk you through the entire instal process, both while upgrading,

RE: WE 9.4

2016-03-10 Thread Smith, Veronica via Talk
That's what happened to me last time, for 9.3, they said then, it was because
everyone and their brother was installing it. The system was extremely busy.

know something is actually happening, like files are being extracted, or

sitting on my screen for about 5 minutes doing nothing. anyone else
experienced this and how do you fix it so I can install 9.4?

Re: version 9.4 and questions

Well, if 9.3 was working good for you, chances are 9.4 will too. So, all
you can do is give it a try and if it doesn't work you can always go
back to an earlier version.

times I can restart WE and then read the dialog and hit the close button. Why
is WE not reading this box, and why does it cause WE go quit speaking??? Any

Re: Key Definitions for Cursor Keys Still Messed Up

2016-03-10 Thread Dave Basden via Talk

Hi Doug,

Indeed that seems to have solved the problem. I was almost sure I
had tried that before, but perhaps I was just lured by the prior
character after, which is what I had always used before. Thanks for
taking me seriously and getting it resolved.

Dave

Dave,

As per my previous email where I said exactly what I set it to, you want
to set it to "Character Before", not "Prior Character After" as you just
stated you are doing. This means before handing the right arrow to the
underlying application, first read the current Character. Then allow
the right arrow to go through to actually move to the character to the
right. Bottom line, this speaks the character you left, not the
character you are moving to. So please change the right arrow to
"Character Before" as I believe this will resolve your problem.

I didn't verify but I do seem to remember that Prior character after
isn't fully implemented with some applications. But that doesn't matter
in your case as Character Before gives you the same thing but works.

combobox you cannot choose something

2016-03-10 Thread Marten Post Uiterweer via Talk
Hi,

At work we will use an other program for call management called
Service now.
It is an webapplication and I thought to also try to look at the
community on internet if I can find more tips.
When registering and after the account is verified, you can login and
you have to fill in some things about who you are.
Here you have a combobox where you can press the first letter to select
something, but arrows will not work Alt-down/up will also not help. Is
this a new sort of control?
It is difficult, because the community is protected by an password, but
everyone can register.
Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this?
Window-Eyes says:

Industry, select, closed

I also have tried this with Nvda or Jaws, but no screenreader seems to
handle this with IE11 in win7.
I have also tried Chrome. No luck.
The site says that it has to work with firefox, but I could not find a
login-button with firefox.

Kind regards, Marten

Hi Tom,

I made sure everything was set to program and turned everything off
except for speak first 24 lines. I don't hear the number of things now,
but I do still hear the first line repeated in Thunderbird. I cleared
the settings for both of the new page categories. Do you have any more
suggestions?

I solved this a long time ago. Try going into the Window-Eyes control

turning off everything other than read first 24 lines or entire page.
Toggle all the changes from global to program scope so you don't
change them in your browser or CHM help files. Save the set file.

This is because the automatic reading starts, then the new page
information fires, and this causes automatic reading to restart. You
can get the number of links, headings, etc. with the Speak Summary hot
key: Control-Shift-S.

This actually started much earlier and simply continues in 9.4

If you pay attention some emails repeat and some do not. I thought it
was related to html vs. plain text but I cannot easily confirm this.

WE repeats only the first word or sentence with a peruid and then reads
the rest of the message correctly.

Re: Key Definitions for Cursor Keys Still Messed Up

2016-03-10 Thread Doug Geoffray via Talk

But that doesn't matter
in your case as Character Before gives you the same thing but works.

version 9.4 and questions

2016-03-10 Thread Don Smith via Talk
Morning:

First, when a new version of we comes out and installed, are all of your
present apps updated along with some perhaps new ones?

Also, my computer is running ok with outlook 2007, windows 7 with all
updates and office 2007.

Win eyes version 9 etcetra latest updates except 9.4.

Should I upgrade or is there not much new that will make my computer run
better or could I have some problems that I don't need?

Thanks

Don

I seem to have broken my WE install.

2016-03-10 Thread Bryan Peterson via Talk
I actually posted about this yesterday but the only reply I got was from
someone who apparently misread the message and thought it was just a problem of
an overloaded server from people rushing to get the 9.4 download.
I managed to download and install the 60-day evaluation of WE9.4 and install
it since I wanted to give it a try so I’d have some idea what to expect by the
time I manage to save up either for a new SMA or a copy of Office 2010 or
later. Unfortunately I found the newer version of WE to be extremely slow on my
nearly seven-year-old Vista laptop and it also only ran in 30-minute mode, so I
uninstalled it. This is where the issues began. For starters I had to use the
Emergency removal tool since Window-Eyes didn’t show up in the Programs and
Features list. After uninstalling 9.4 I set about reinstallin from my 7.5 CD
and then going fro there to the 8.4 upgrade. Unfortunately while Window-Eyes
would come up speaking it only said that Window-Eyes cannot communicate with
the video display driver and that it must be reinstalled. Unfortunately I can’t
figure out how to do this.
Focus your powers and prepare for buttle.
