RE: Eset 10

2017-04-28 Thread JOHN RIEHL via Talk
That's good to hear. It may be that Eset is more accessible now; that's why
I asked my question.

Subject: Eset 10

Eset popped up while I was on the internet, using Chrome rather than IE,
which may have been a good thing. It asked me if I wanted to allow
something or block it. Since I was unsure what it was talking about, I
chose block. Better safe than sorry. Smile. But I decided to run a scan,
just in case. I clicked scan from the main Eset screen, and saw from the
system tray that a scan was in progress. When I checked later, the scan in
progress message was gone. I alt-tabbed to the Eset screen where I read
that no threats had been found. I used alt-f4 to close the program.

I know some have stated that Eset 10 is not accessible with Window-Eyes.
For my needs, it's perfectly accessible. When it comes to antivirus
protection, I've never had a problem using Eset right out of the box, so to
speak, and leaving the program to get on with what I've paid it to do.

For the advanced computer people on the list, this may not be what you want.
But I think it's fine for the average user, and certainly for those with
limited computer skills and no interest in going beyond basic tasks. An
advantage for these last, and the rest of us too, regardless of skill level,
Eset tech support is available free with a quick phone call.

Again, JMO, in case the information proves useful to someone.

RE: Alternative to Eset

2017-04-15 Thread JOHN RIEHL via Talk
I think part of the question -- and I have the same question -- is not only
what programs are accessible but what programs are accessible and do a good
job finding viruses. The reason a lot of us went with Nod-32 is that it was
not only accessible in the day it also had an excellent reputation as a
virus checker.

RE: Eset Antivirus, Version 10

2017-03-27 Thread Steve Nutt via Talk
Hi Rebecca,

I would urge caution when you make statements like Eset is now accessible
with Window-Eyes. It is far from it.

The activation process is not accessible, though it was with JAWS.

The Advanced Setup options are also not accessible, they just read out all
the checkboxes and say False or True, depending on whether they are checked
or not.

So if all you want to do is scan, then it is fine. But most of the setup
parameters are not accessible.

Try it some time.

All the best

RE: Eset Antivirus, Version 10, Thoughts

2017-03-26 Thread Rebecca Lineberger via Talk
Hello,
You're probably a more advanced user than I am when it comes to the
information you want from an antivirus program. If I can scan my computer,
check for updates and program upgrades manually when needed, that's all I
need. I leave Eset to get on with it. Smile. I have gone into tools to
check if anything is quarantined, never, and you're right, the new screen
here has changed and seems not as accessible. Once with version 8, I had an
issue and called Eset. I could not read the information he requested from
the depths of the program, but he took control of my computer and checked
for me that all was ok, which it was.
You can't get that level of customer service from many antivirus programs.
But the protection is the same with version 8 as with version 10, as I was
told, so there's no harm in waiting for something more to your needs.
But I just discovered that the tab works, as well as the Window-Eyes mouse
to navigate and interact with the Eset screen. I also have friends who go
to "My Computer" or "This PC" and use the context menu to scan their C
drives. Whatever works! Smile.

The web site does say NOD 32 10. My just renewed license says version 9.
I'm running version 8 and my product update only brings up version 9.
But as I said in an email yesterday, version 9 or 10 is a moot point,
because I was told by an Eset representative yesterday that although Eset
works with JAWS, it does not yet work with Window-Eyes.
I would prefer not to be the person to test the accuracy of this. But
others have indicated that versions later than 8 are not accessible.
Window-Eyes recommended staying with version 8. The antivirus protection is
the same.

Clarification or further obfuscation.

The web site says Eset NOD32 10, which no doubt is correct. Smile. But I
just renewed several days ago and my updated license is for version 9. I'm
still using version 8. The version listed when I check for product update
is version 9.

Either the update function has not caught up with the new version, or one
has to have 9 installed before 10 can go in, unlike Window-Eyes, which can
skip versions.

It's a moot point anyway, since nothing beyond 8 is accessible.

I am also using version 8 under Windows 10, anniversary edition, and not
having problems. I ignore the messages about upgrading it.

Hello everyone,

I am having a major problem with Eset which I can't solve with
Window-Eyes. I am trying to log into my bank, but Eset insists on
opening its secure banking payment system, and it is seeing
Window-Eyes as a key logger threat. I don't know how to set
Window-Eyes to be in the whitelist, and I can't get into Eset to turn
the banking payment system off because Eset is now refusing to interface

with Window-Eyes.

I managed to open the advanced settings, but Window-Eyes will not
respond to any tabbing or use of the arrow keys, so I can't check to
make sure the enable use of graphics is turned off. This is
particularly important, as I can't even check the amount in my bank
without logging in. Can anyone help with this? Thank you.

as a key logger threat. I don't know how to set Window-Eyes to be in
the whitelist, and I can't get into Eset to turn the banking payment
system off because Eset is now refusing to interface with Window-Eyes.
Thank you.

Re: Major Problem with Eset

2016-09-29 Thread Stephen Clark via Talk
You can add my dissatisfaction with Eset over this and other recent
interface access problems with the product. I'm actually up for renewal,
but with the release of version 9, I decided to completely remove NOD32
from my system and will not be renewing. I've always been a big fan of
Eset from the beginning especially because of their past commitment to
accessibility and have recommended them to others, etc. I guess they've
chosen a different path (and so have I).

Hi Samuel,

I face a similar problem that you are facing. Regretably, Window-Eyes,

The work around would be to use an alternative screen reader such as
NVDA, which works relatively well, if you can put up with some
relatively minor accessibility issues.

Hello everyone,

I am having a major problem with Eset which I can't solve with
Window-Eyes. I am trying to log into my bank, but Eset insists on
opening its secure banking payment system, and it is seeing Window-Eyes
as a key logger threat. I don't know how to set Window-Eyes to be in
the whitelist, and I can't get into Eset to turn the banking payment
system off because Eset is now refusing to interface with Window-Eyes.
Thank you.

Version 8 still has the same protection as 9 as far as the Virus
database goes, according to what tech support told me. Version 9 does
contain some options for extra security on financial and banking
sites. But the updating of virus protection is the same, regardless
of which version of the interface you use, I was told.

screen reader compatibility.
If you experience issues with other screen readers please let us know, or

Re: Has anyone used Eset nod32 v9 with Window Eyes?

2016-03-26 Thread Elizabeth via Talk
Version 8 still has the same protection as 9 as far as the Virus
database goes, according to what tech support told me. Version 9 does
contain some options for extra security on financial and banking
sites. But the updating of virus protection is the same, regardless
of which version of the interface you use, I was told.

Eset Security Suite Version 9

2016-03-26 Thread Elizabeth via Talk
I spoke with Eset about their message suggesting folks with screen
readers use Version 8 if they experience problems. They said they
have not yet tested Version 9 with screen readers. I have used their
products for over five years. They are very responsive to user
feedback, particularly from those of us using screen readers.
You can always download a trial copy of version 9 and test it out.
Please remember to uncheck the "use graphical user interface" option
in Settings. F5 will get you to the settings options. Please report
back to us on your Version 9 findings.

I would strongly recommend that you return to version 8. It is annoying
that we have to do such a thing; Eset really should know better.
However, it is sometimes necessary to accept these setbacks. Version 8
is perfectly fine.

Cheerio,

Eset Security Essentials and Nod32

2015-10-23 Thread Elizabeth via Talk
Before you dismiss Nod32 latest version outright, please check with
Eset. It may be that changing a few settings makes it compatible.
Certainly the latest version of Eset Security Suite is compatible and
very workable with Window-eyes. Eset has a longstanding policy of
paying attention to blind and low vision users and good customer
relations with many of us.
So you may want to use them for security. They charge but not much
for what you get.

this is a problem with w e. create and change the set file so the mouse will

these are eset options. and there are a couple of other such options that will
repeat as you tab through them.
but with track mouse with focus turned on, when you encounter these options
press the number pad 5 and w e will speak what the mouse pointer is on then you

None of the flagged items are WE related.
It seems, both in my and my son's experience today, Eset flagged ole bunch
of stuff without offering an option to deal with it.
Cleaning less than 10% of what it found is hardly reassuring and so I think
looking elsewhere may make sense.
Like you, Elizabeth, I've been satisfied with ESET for years until this
experience. And reading what I've mentioned on their website may indicate
that the stand alone Eset Smart Security may be outmanned by the dangers out
there.

Mike, I have used Eset Security Suite for years successfully with Window-eyes.
I suggest you go to the particulathreat and hit the Windows Context key or F10
key and that may give you more choices. Sometimes Eset thinks things are
threats which are not really full blown threats.
For example, if I have a program which, when you install it, says it is going
to install a tool bar unless I ask it not to do so, Eset might flag the
program. This is the kind of thing which happens with freeware programs which
come bundled with things. Hope this message makes sense.
I know Brendon does his best to be helpful. But he does not specifically have
experience with Eset products and so may not know about using the context menu
right mouse click F10 option.
Please let me know if this suggestion helps. Also, Eset is very helpful when I
call them. You may want to give them a call and let them walk you through how
to use the keyboard to get the info you want. If the keyboard access doesn't
work, they are very willing to fix their own programs so that keyboard accesss
is successful.

Please let me know if this suggestion helps. Also, Eset is very
helpful when I call them. You may want to give them a call and let
them walk you through how to use the keyboard to get the info you
want. If the keyboard access doesn't work, they are very willing to
fix their own programs so that keyboard accesss is successful.

In the past, my experience was similar to what Elizabeth described in her
thoughtful and helpful reply.
A couple of others, in private off-list replies,
mentioned something somewhat disconcerting: Eset, on their website,
now indicates that additional tools may be needed to be downloaded from
their website to deal with certain threats.  There is no charge for this;
but certainly this makes the process somewhat more cumbersome and probably
less thorough.

So, this brings up the logical question: can folks out there suggest
another security package that is both effective and thorough along with
being WE friendly?

Mike, downloading additional tools from the Eset site is not
something I have heard of before. I gather you paid for either Nod32
or Eset Security Suite for some period of time. If you did, you have
access to their thorough customer support. They are familiar with
screen readers, including Window-eyes. They have always provided me
with customer service of the highest quality. You may want to speak
with them and explain your concerns about the need for additional
downloadable tools. i do understand you may need them to explain the
use of such tools and the necessity for having them along with
their already-paid for security package. Please let me know what
they say to you.

All the best,
Elizabeth

RE: WE and Eset Smart Security

2015-03-31 Thread Mike Pietruk via Talk
lSteve (and all)
My sighted adult son is somewhat the computer geek. Following my
experience, he decided to take a pc that he wanted to clean up and ran
ESET on it.
It found 200+ problems in a 2 or so hour scan of the main hd and a
secondary drive, cleaned nothing, and gave him no ability that he could
see to quarantine or remove anything.
So, as he put it, it was little more than one of those
that alerted you to problems but allowed you to take care of nothing.
So, it appears something else is needed these days; so, as I asked in
another thread reply, can folks suggest something that both seamlessly
fixes things and is WE friendly?

Re: WE and Eset Smart Security

2015-03-31 Thread Mike Pietruk via Talk
Elizabeth

None of the flagged items are WE related.
It seems, both in my and my son's experience today, Eset flagged ole bunch
of stuff without offering an option to deal with it.
Cleaning less than 10% of what it found is hardly reassuring and so I
think looking elsewhere may make sense.
Like you, Elizabeth, I've been satisfied with ESET for years until this
experience. And reading what I've mentioned on their website may indicate
that the stand alone Eset Smart Security may be outmanned by the dangers
out there.
