Re: help with becky email

2018-12-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
I don't know what happened to your in box. And I don't know if all mail
servers work the same. But here's a potential problem with switching
from pop3 to iMap. If you didn't have "leave messages on server" set for
your pop3 account all messages are downloaded to your computer and then
deleted from the mail server. And if you change the same account in your
email client to iMap, rather than creating a new iMap account,
everything will be wiped out and assume the default iMap server folder
configuration. So you would lose any folders you created because you're
now working off of the server from within your client.
If you have a backup you should be able to copy and paste your previous
folder structure into the new iMap folder within Becky.

Good luck,
Tom

RE: Becky email problem

Mike,

Be sure you have made the changes that are recommended for screen readers.
Go to Tools, General Setup, and on the Message View tab, be sure to uncheck
the "Operate four-way button with cursor keys." Go to the "Editor" tab and
uncheck the "Use Line Pointer." While there, uncheck the show touch
keyboard option, although I don't know if that causes a problem.

If you have done all of this already, try to maximize your screen and see if
that helps.

Best regards,

Steve

RE: BECKY!: forwarding emails

2018-01-19 Thread Steve Jacobson via Talk
Martha,

I have not had the problem you are encountering and I have forwarded some
pretty long emails with lots of parts. I have run into limits using some
other email programs, though, so it is still possible that you are
encountering that with Becky. You might want to be sure you are at the
latest version of Becky in case that corrects the issue you are
encountering.

Still, on rare occasions, I have had trouble with Becky, particularly when
running JAWS but also occasionally with Window-Eyes, where things just do
not work right. When this happens, I have closed Becky completely and
started it again and the problem usually goes away.

I think this is grasping at straws on my part, but you could also make sure
that the default template for forwarding mail is in tact, and you could even
try making a minor change to it in case that causes everything to work as
expected. However, I don't know anything about the template that would
affect the size of an email being forwarded. One possibility, though, is
that something is happening when Becky tries to add a character to the
beginning of a line that already has a number of prefix characters added.
You can find the template for replying and forwarding in Becky's general
setup on the Tools menu and on the citation tab. By default, I think
standard templates are used for replying and for forwarding. I have a
template for replying set up but no special template for forwarding. I'm
not completely sure if that means my "reply" template is used or an internal
default template. My reply template looks like this:

On %d
%f wrote:

%M
%0

I did this to force the line with the date to be separated from the line
that said from whom the message was from. I forced a blank line between the
"FROM" line and the Message. The %M represents the body of the message and
the %0 represents the default signature. There is reference to a list of
other prefix citations, and I don't know what they mean. I wonder if a
character in the message you are forwarding is triggering some unexpected
behavior. Experimenting some with settings on the Citation tab might be
worth the effort.

Here's yet another grasp at a straw. If you are using Window-Eyes, be
certain that the lines you are finding that are blank truly are blank.
Sometimes using the RIGHT ARROW will reveal text on lines that were reported
as "Blank" when one DOWN ARROWS through a document with Window-Eyes. This
is not specific to Becky, though. When I have seen this, it is usually when
a line begins with a TAB character in certain cases. Also, check your
filtering settings in Window-Eyes in case that is introducing some unwanted
behavior. From your description, the problem sounds like it is within
Becky, but if you are seeing a lot of blank lines instead of text between
headers then there could be a Window-Eyes issue that is preventing the text
from being spoken even though it is actually present.

Good luck!

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Hi.

I am using BECKY! version 2.0 on a Windows PC.

I have been forwarding emails and most of the time the text in the body
is forwarded successfully.
Some of the emails that I am forwarding are contain a string of emails.
These emails show only the headers and signatures of the emails in the
string or thread. The body of the emails is blank.

Is there a setting that I need to change? I'm wondering if this is due
to the size of the email.

thanks.

BECKY!: forwarding emails

2018-01-17 Thread Martha via Talk

I'm wondering if this is due
to the size of the email.

thanks.

Martha

Re: To fellow BECKY! users

2017-12-22 Thread Curtis Delzer via Talk
I have made many filters successfully with Becky, and it works well.
You tell me how to do the T-bird filters, (make sounds for each message,
so each list has it's own sound for example), and I'll show you how to
do the Becky! ones.
It is quite easy, actually.
"filter manager" is your friend, and start each collection of "rules"
per list with move to folder and sound, and the conditions after and
you'll be jake.

sorry for not picking up this thread, but I did set JART as an external

Re: Becky Address Book question

2017-07-17 Thread via Talk
I believe you open the address book, click on the file menu, choose
export text file then save the address book to a flash drive. Then take
the flash drive to the other computer, open the address book again,
click on the file menu and go to import a text file.

Hi there Don!

Was wondering if you might be able to provide me with step by step
instructions on how to set up filters using Thunderbird? I have tried
several times just to wind up with my messages in both the folders I set
up as well as in several other folders. I guess I am asking is it
possible to filter my messages into just a single mailbox? You can
respond to me privately if you wish at wohlg...@gmail.com. Thanks Much! de

Re: To fellow BECKY! users

2017-05-30 Thread Chris G via Talk
If you are using imap you'll need to create the filters on the server
and not in Becky.
Becky doesn't run filters automatically on new imap messages, only pop.
You would need to run the filters manually.
The advantages of having the filters on the server is you create them
once and they work for every computer/phone/tablet you configure.

Hello Curtis,

How does Becky use Jarte?

If you press CTRL-N to write a Message, does Jarte come up instead of
the Becky Editor?

If it does, that would be great.

Re: Becky problems

2017-05-11 Thread Donald L. Roberts via Talk

I have no answer to Dave's question but wish to ask a question about Becky.

Specifically, I cannot figure out how to use the filter manager. I
subscribe to perhaps eleven email lists, some of which are high traffic
lists. For each high traffic list, I set up a folder. I then set up a
common folder for three low traffic lists. My filtering wishes are not
complex, merely to filter each lists into the appropriate folder; no
secondary sorting.

If anyone can provide step by step guidance, I would be most grateful.

Set your page up and down as cursoring keys and set them to read field data.
You can then go through the email using page up and down.
Here is a link to sets I created a while ago:

They are simple sets and I packaged them for simple instalation.

I am using Becky! at this moment and I am committed to it. It is simple
software with a potentially complex approach which you can either use or
ignore. Two views are useable with speech, either the html view from the
IE component built into windows, or convert to text which is the easiest.
Press downarrow and tab to read the subject and / or sender of the
message, and window-eyes by default will read the first 24 lines of the
message. "read-to-end" however is broken in the latest window-eyes, and
no one seems to know why, but it is easily overcome with the space bar
which displays the next screen of the message and hitting
"control-shift-d" which reads the field data which I have set up.
I completely recommend Becky! which is not so convoluted as Thunderbird,
has no adds, and you do not need to use an HTML viewer or creator unless
you wish too to read or write mail. It is quick at gathering mail, has
pop and that other format which I can't remember the name of but it is
seriously implemented, is very easy to set up, and configure.

The frustration of which I speak is that Window-eyes 9.5.4 almost always
will repeat either the subject line or the first two lines of almost any
email message. Earlier versions of W E showed similar behavior on this
HP desktop which is now running Windows 10 creator. In fairness, Jaws
sometimes exhibits this behavior but far less than W E. Also Jaws 16
takes significantly longer on my system to load an email message. I
have played with the trigger delay and other W E settings in the hope of
at least reducing the occurrence of this as I am resigned to never
completely eliminating it. Nothing helps much. I know that some on
this list indicate that they do not experience this phenomenon although
others do.

The bottom line here is that I have decided to take Becky for a trial
run and hope some lister will point me both to the GW Micro posts on
what modifications need to be made to Becky and also Chris Grabowsky's
tutorial on its usage.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Becky email questions

2017-04-21 Thread Curtis Delzer via Talk

Re: Becky email questions

2017-04-21 Thread Mike Rogers via Talk
Here's some info that I recieved, when beginning to use Becky.

After creating your email account with Becky, follow these steps to make Becky
Internet email accessible.

1. From the tools menu select "General Setup"
2. Press control-tab 3 times, you will reach the message view tab.
3. Uncheck the option "Operate 4way button by the cursor key." If this option
is checked you will not be able to scroll through messages with your arrow keys.
4. Next, press control-tab one time to move to the "editor" tab. Then press
tab to move to the "use line pointer" checkbox and uncheck it. If this item is
left checked your screen reader might truncate the first character of each
line. This is a test would read his is a test.
Those are the required settings. Here are some other things you might want to
change.
1. To have the CC and BCC fields in the tab order when writing a new message,
press control-N to write a new message, then press control-down arrow twice.
The first time exposes the CC field and the second time exposes the BCC field.
This will only need to be done one time. After that Becky remembers. If you
want to remove the BCC field, just press control-up arrow.
2. When replying to an email, most times you might like the original message
quoted. From the Tools menu, select the General setup menu item. Press
control-tab to move to the citation tab. Press TAB until you reach the "Use
template for replying" Checkbox and check it.

Although I really like most things about the Thunderbird email program,
I continue to encounter one problem which frustrates me to the point
where I wish to at least try other email programs, in this case Becky.

I had to change to option 3 wide list view to get all components to show

that the sender was not showing prior to making this BECKY! setting
change.

Becky works very well but you need to change two settings. In the Tools,
General setup dialog on the Message View tab, uncheck the "Control four-way
button with arrow keys" check box and the cursor will work when you are reading
messages. In the Editor tab in the same dialog, uncheck the Display line
pointer option which, if checked, can cover up the first character.

 Good luck.

Trouble with Becky

2017-01-29 Thread Mike Rogers via Talk
The hot key Alt-T plus R to transfer emails from inbox to another folder has
stopped working. Can I get the steps involved to start over arranging sorting,
from somebody? I've set two folders up, but they don't recieve any mail.
Everything goes into inbox and stays there.

Thanks.

You can if you're using the "convert to text" option unger general,
third tab, about 20 tabs to the right, just press tab after the message
body. Becky does not store attachments separate from the message unless
you ask it to "save."

Joseph,

If you just installed Becky for the first time, there are some settings in
Becky that you need to change for it to work correctly. There is a
Knowledge Base article that describes the settings. One of the changes is
necessary to use the arrow keys to read messages. I assume that this is not
Dave's problem though, although it probably is worth to checking to be sure
that settings within becky didn't change.

Subject: WE 9.5 Stopped reading Becky Email

Hello,

I too recieved the Windows 10 update, and after it was finished, I have
noticed several things different, and that no longer work as they once did.

the main issues so far is that my Becky Email program works as it should.
I can grab emails sent to me, and I can write and send them. The problem is
that WE 9.5 will not read the Body of the Text.

When opening an Email, I hear, "Veticle Edit" and then nothing. Moving the
Arrows keys read nothing. Moving the Mouse reads nothing.
Attempting to read the entire screen reads nothing but the Menus and the
Titles of the Emails, but will not read the body of text.

I asked someone sighted and the text of the body is on screen, but WE
9.5 will not read it.

Does anyone have a suggestion as what I can do to fix this?

I am using NVDA to read and write my Emails in Becky until I can figure out
or be shown a Fix.

Another thing, which has nothing to do with WE 9.5, is when I open my
Downlod Folder and I press F10, and arrow down to Send To-

I press the Right Arrow, which opens Send To, and then I arrow down, looking
for the Flash drive that is plugged into one of the Systems USB ports.
There are no drives listed.

In fact, this Send To list is much shorter than before the Windows 10
Update.

At this point, I do not know if this New Shorter list is the New
Imporovments that come with the new Windows 10, or if I have had a slight
Update malfunction.

Anyone else have this problem?

Grumpy Dave

RE: WE 9.5 Stopped reading Becky Email

2016-09-26 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Hi Casey,

Becky reads just fine if you follow the steps in the KB article:
http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB2061
You can close a thred by pressing left arrow a few times and then deleting it.
This will delete all emails in a thred.

Unlike Thunderbird, Becky uses a cursor, it doesn't display emails in an html
viewer requiring browse mode. So the issue with repeating the first line is
not in Becky.
Note: Read-To-End doesn't work in Becky the last time I tried.

I think I created some set files that read with page up and down instead.

Hi Steve regarding Becky.
Are you A Becky user?
If so can you group messages by conversation so that you can delete A thread of
messages if you don't want to read A certain subject?
And then you don't have to delete messages one by one in A certain topic that
you don't want to read.
Also if you are using Becky do you use it with window-eyes and the latest
version of window-eyes?
If so when you open an e-mail does it start reading and then repete like us
that are using Thunderbird are having to deal with currently?
The fix for Thunderbird is to first open Thunderbird when window-eyes is
running.
Then open Thunderbird.
After you do that.
Then we start window-eyes.
We shouldn't have to do that to get that problem to stop.
Yes it solves the problem for A while.
But you have eventually go back in and do it again.
I wish someone that works with window-eyes at a squared would fix this and not
just tell us.
That they are not having this issue or they can't reproduce this.
That gets so old hearing that all of the time.
So please can this issue please be addressed and taken of.

WE 9.5 won't read Becky emails and more

2016-09-24 Thread Dave via Talk
Hi Chris,

Looks like I was not having the Display Driver load at start up.

Closing Becky and WE, and then reStarting both, seems to have worked.

I then closed both, and shut down the entire system, completely off.
Restarted the system and now WE reds Becky as it should. Also, the SEND
TO- problem mentioned, is also fixed. The Flash Drive is shown in the
Send To list now.

Interesting!

I do not envy the Task you folks at A I Squared have to do when making
your Screen Reader work. The Combinations of possibilities WE has to
read must be in the Millions. And these are all potential conflicts
and malfunctions if any little thing changes when Microsoft pushes
another Update on Win 10 users etc. When I worked in Tech Support,
keeping up with the Changes was frantic, as even though all systems ran
MS Windows, they did not always run the same. And the same went for
programs running in Windows. They would run, but they would not always
run the same from one system to another.

It was difficult to not become quite profane.

Thanks for the Work around.

grumpy Dave

RE: WE 9.5 Stopped reading Becky Email

2016-09-24 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
Hi,
Make sure you follow the steps outlined here:
http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB2061

Next, make sure the Window is maximized.
Also go to help/about window-eyes and see if it says anything about a display
driver not being attached. If it does, restart Window-eyes.
Note, if you restart Window-eyes with Becky running it won't read the message
body. Close and restart Becky.

Hi:

Although I have never used Becky before, just for the heck of it, I installed
and set up the program.

I do notice some issues with Becky, WE 9.5.3 and the Win 10 update, but, they
don't seem identical to your own issues.

Although I could pull up the list of messages, I also had trouble reading the
entire message.

I would press Enter on a message and the first page would read, then, silence.
Nothing I did could get much of a response. I could read with the mouse keys,
though.

Anyway, something doesn't seem right here.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Subject: WE 9.5 Stopped reading Becky Email

Hello,

I too recieved the Windows 10 update, and after it was finished, I have noticed
several things different, and that no longer work as they once did.

the main issues so far is that my Becky Email program works as it should.

Attempting to read the entire screen reads nothing but the Menus and the Titles
of the Emails, but will not read the body of text.

I asked someone sighted and the text of the body is on screen, but WE
9.5 will not read it.

Does anyone have a suggestion as what I can do to fix this?

I am using NVDA to read and write my Emails in Becky until I can figure out or
be shown a Fix.

Another thing, which has nothing to do with WE 9.5, is when I open my Downlod
Folder and I press F10, and arrow down to Send To-

I press the Right Arrow, which opens Send To, and then I arrow down, looking
for the Flash drive that is plugged into one of the Systems USB ports.
There are no drives listed.

In fact, this Send To list is much shorter than before the Windows 10 Update.

At this point, I do not know if this New Shorter list is the New Imporovments
that come with the new Windows 10, or if I have had a slight Update
malfunction.

Anyone else have this problem?

Re: about becky!

2016-08-28 Thread Martha via Talk
Hi.

To sort the address book, use your mouse key to place the pointer on the
column header. Click on the column header to sort. Clicking a second
time on the desired column header will reverse the sort order.

To include the original email as part of your reply, from the "Tools"
menu, open the General Setup" option.
Within that option are 12 tabs. Use your arrow keys to get to the tab
called "Citation". Then use your tab key to get to the checkbox for
"use edit template when replying" and use the spacebar to check it.

I may not have the wording of the labels exactly right, but, should be
close enough for you to recognize what I am trying to communicate. If
not, write to me off-list and I'll give it another try.

Re: becky mail

2016-08-04 Thread Dave via Talk
I use Becky, but I remember trying setting after setting in an attempt
to get Becky to work. At first, Becky would not Receive or Send email.
then I stumbled upon getting it to Receive, but still could not Send.
Lots more Fussing with Settings, and Finally, Becky would Send and
Receive Emails.

My Favorite email Program is Eudora, and while some here have gotten it
to work, I just figured it was past time to move on to something New.

Becky is OK, but so far, nothing I have tried is as easy to use as
Eudora. Guess it is what you learn first and get ultra familiar with
that sticks with you for Years.

I have used Thunderbird, Windows Live, Becky, and one other that I
cannot remember its name, and for one reason or another, they all seem
awkward to me.

Go Figure!

Standard Windows functionality. Simply click the column header that you
want to sort on (Sent Date, Received Date, etc.) until you see it in the
order you want. There are three states like I stated before. Ascending,
descending, and none/no-sort. You can sort on fields in the address
book the same way...just click on the column header you want. Name,
Email-Address, Address Group...whatever.

Subject: BECKY!: Sorting new entries in address book

Hi.

Using Windows 10, WE 9.4, and BECKY! as my email client.

I started my personal address book by importing contacts from my old Outlook
Express contacts.
Now, I have added some brand new contacts in BECKY! The new addresses are
shown at the bottom of the list. I would like to sort the list so that all
entries are in alphabetical order. I cannot find a menu option, context
option, etc. to do this. Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Thanks.

Martha

Re: becky email

2016-06-27 Thread Martha via Talk
Hi.

I called WE Support about this same problem earlier today.
I am using a new Windows10 (not an upgrade from Windows7), WE 9.4, and I
bypass the logon screen when I start up the machine.

Check to see if video support for WE has been lost. Do this by opening
WE control panel, going to the Help menue, and pressing enter on "About...".
If you hear that the video driver is missing, close WE completely and
then launch WE. Then try tabbing to the message window in BECKY! If
you still don't hear the message, close BECKY! and launch it again.

I don't have a list, but here's a few basics.

tab and shift tab takes you into messages. Aklso the enter key will take you
from subject to the body of an email.
Control N opens a new email at the "send to" box. Alt O puts you into a
default mail box, then hit tab and you are in your address book Just arrow to
the address you want and hit enter.
Many commands are found in the menus. Just use the alt key and you will be in
the menu.

control shift G sends your message.
You can create storage folders by hitting "new" in file menu. If you wish to
transfer a message to a folder, from inbox, you need to use the clipboard hit
control X for cut and go to the folder and hit control paste Control V. This
is the only way to move it and have it stay there.

Alt H will take you into the help menu.

Hope this helps.

Hi.

I am switching from my old XP laptop, using Outlook Express as my email
client to Windows 10, using BECKY! as my email client.

With OE, under the File menu, there was an option to compress folders.
Is there an equivalent to this in BECKY!? I've looked and haven't found it.
Maybe it is done automagically...

I use Becky. I just sent my wife a pdf file. Here's whatI do.
Go to the folder, where the file is. Highlight it and right click or hit
application key. Arrow up to "send to" right arrow and find Becky. Make sure
that Becky is open ahead of time. Hit enter and an email will come up. type
in the sender and send. Works for me with all attachments.

Hello,

Someone sent me some file attachments with an Email. I use Becky, but I cannot
find them in Win 10.

I cannot tell if the attachments never arrived, or they are still waiting in
some folder Becky is using on this system.

Would someone who knows, tell me where these attachments should be found, if
they were attached to an email?

thanks,

Grumpy Dave

Re: F8 and BECKY!

2016-06-08 Thread Curtis Delzer via Talk
there is a way to make Becky use the IE component so you can press enter
on links, just as you would the IE browser. It is the 21st item in the
third dialog tab of the general options menu, the second item down where
the first is convert to plain text which I and many others mostly, use.
I have though, on messages such as those from Kim Kommando, used that IE
component to get to hidden links or tables.
