Re: help with becky email
I don't know what happened to your in box. And I don't know if all mail servers work the same. But here's a potential problem with switching from pop3 to iMap. If you didn't have "leave messages on server" set for your pop3 account all messages are downloaded to your computer and then deleted from the mail server. And if you change the same account in your email client to iMap, rather than creating a new iMap account, everything will be wiped out and assume the default iMap server folder configuration. So you would lose any folders you created because you're now working off of the server from within your client. If you have a backup you should be able to copy and paste your previous folder structure into the new iMap folder within Becky. Mike, Be sure you have made the changes that are recommended for screen readers. Go to Tools, General Setup, and on the Message View tab, be sure to uncheck the "Operate four-way button with cursor keys." Go to the "Editor" tab and uncheck the "Use Line Pointer." While there, uncheck the show touch keyboard option, although I don't know if that causes a problem. If you have done all of this already, try to maximize your screen and see if that helps. RE: BECKY!: forwarding emails
Martha, I have not had the problem you are encountering and I have forwarded some pretty long emails with lots of parts. I have run into limits using some other email programs, though, so it is still possible that you are encountering that with Becky. You might want to be sure you are at the latest version of Becky in case that corrects the issue you are encountering. Still, on rare occasions, I have had trouble with Becky, particularly when running JAWS but also occasionally with Window-Eyes, where things just do not work right. When this happens, I have closed Becky completely and started it again and the problem usually goes away. I think this is grasping at straws on my part, but you could also make sure that the default template for forwarding mail is in tact, and you could even try making a minor change to it in case that causes everything to work as expected. However, I don't know anything about the template that would affect the size of an email being forwarded. One possibility, though, is that something is happening when Becky tries to add a character to the beginning of a line that already has a number of prefix characters added. You can find the template for replying and forwarding in Becky's general setup on the Tools menu and on the citation tab. By default, I think standard templates are used for replying and for forwarding. I have a template for replying set up but no special template for forwarding. I'm not completely sure if that means my "reply" template is used or an internal default template. My reply template looks like this: On %d %f wrote: %M %0 I did this to force the line with the date to be separated from the line that said from whom the message was from. I forced a blank line between the "FROM" line and the Message. The %M represents the body of the message and the %0 represents the default signature. There is reference to a list of other prefix citations, and I don't know what they mean. I wonder if a character in the message you are forwarding is triggering some unexpected behavior. Experimenting some with settings on the Citation tab might be worth the effort. Here's yet another grasp at a straw. If you are using Window-Eyes, be certain that the lines you are finding that are blank truly are blank. Sometimes using the RIGHT ARROW will reveal text on lines that were reported as "Blank" when one DOWN ARROWS through a document with Window-Eyes. This is not specific to Becky, though. When I have seen this, it is usually when a line begins with a TAB character in certain cases. Also, check your filtering settings in Window-Eyes in case that is introducing some unwanted behavior. From your description, the problem sounds like it is within Becky, but if you are seeing a lot of blank lines instead of text between headers then there could be a Window-Eyes issue that is preventing the text from being spoken even though it is actually present. Good luck! I have made many filters successfully with Becky, and it works well. You tell me how to do the T-bird filters, (make sounds for each message, so each list has it's own sound for example), and I'll show you how to do the Becky! ones. It is quite easy, actually. "filter manager" is your friend, and start each collection of "rules" per list with move to folder and sound, and the conditions after and you'll be jake. - Curtis Delzer, HS. Re: To fellow BECKY! users
Hi there Don! Was wondering if you might be able to provide me with step by step instructions on how to set up filters using Thunderbird? I have tried several times just to wind up with my messages in both the folders I set up as well as in several other folders. I guess I am asking is it possible to filter my messages into just a single mailbox? You can respond to me privately if you wish at wohlg...@gmail.com. Thanks Much! de . On 30-May-17 15:40, Donald L. Re: To fellow BECKY! users
If you are using imap you'll need to create the filters on the server and not in Becky. Becky doesn't run filters automatically on new imap messages, only pop. You would need to run the filters manually. The advantages of having the filters on the server is you create them once and they work for every computer/phone/tablet you configure. Re: Becky problems
I have no answer to Dave's question but wish to ask a question about Becky. Specifically, I cannot figure out how to use the filter manager. I subscribe to perhaps eleven email lists, some of which are high traffic lists. For each high traffic list, I set up a folder. I then set up a common folder for three low traffic lists. My filtering wishes are not complex, merely to filter each lists into the appropriate folder; no secondary sorting. If anyone can provide step by step guidance, I would be most grateful. I haven't figured out how to pay for Becky either. However, you can still use Becky indefinitely, as it is simple enough to click past the first two or three screens as the program starts. Set your page up and down as cursoring keys and set them to read field data. You can then go through the email using page up and down. Re: Becky email questions
Here's some info that I recieved, when beginning to use Becky. After creating your email account with Becky, follow these steps to make Becky Internet email accessible. 1. From the tools menu select "General Setup" 2. Press control-tab 3 times, you will reach the message view tab. 3. Uncheck the option "Operate 4way button by the cursor key." If this option is checked you will not be able to scroll through messages with your arrow keys. 4. Next, press control-tab one time to move to the "editor" tab. Then press tab to move to the "use line pointer" checkbox and uncheck it. If this item is left checked your screen reader might truncate the first character of each line. This is a test would read his is a test. Those are the required settings. Here are some other things you might want to change. 1. To have the CC and BCC fields in the tab order when writing a new message, press control-N to write a new message, then press control-down arrow twice. The first time exposes the CC field and the second time exposes the BCC field. This will only need to be done one time. After that Becky remembers. If you want to remove the BCC field, just press control-up arrow. 2. When replying to an email, most times you might like the original message quoted. From the Tools menu, select the General setup menu item. Press control-tab to move to the citation tab. Press TAB until you reach the "Use template for replying" Checkbox and check it. www.harmonicaworkshops.com On Thu, 20 Apr 2017 19:48:18 -0700 "Donald L. Also, under the View menu, there is a "Change Layout" option. I had to change to option 3 wide list view to get all components to show when arrowing through the list boxes. It has been a long time, but, I think that the sender was not showing prior to making this BECKY! setting change. I can grab emails sent to me, and I can write and send them. The problem is that WE 9.5 will not read the Body of the Text. When opening an Email, I hear, "Veticle Edit" and then nothing. Moving the Arrows keys read nothing. Moving the Mouse reads nothing. Attempting to read the entire screen reads nothing but the Menus and the Titles of the Emails, but will not read the body of text. I asked someone sighted and the text of the body is on screen, but WE 9.5 will not read it. Does anyone have a suggestion as what I can do to fix this? I am using NVDA to read and write my Emails in Becky until I can figure out or be shown a Fix. Another thing, which has nothing to do with WE 9.5, is when I open my Downlod Folder and I press F10, and arrow down to Send To- I press the Right Arrow, which opens Send To, and then I arrow down, looking for the Flash drive that is plugged into one of the Systems USB ports. There are no drives listed. In fact, this Send To list is much shorter than before the Windows 10 Update. At this point, I do not know if this New Shorter list is the New Imporovments that come with the new Windows 10, or if I have had a slight Update malfunction. Anyone else have this problem? RE: WE 9.5 Stopped reading Becky Email
Hi Casey, Becky reads just fine if you follow the steps in the KB article: http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB2061 You can close a thred by pressing left arrow a few times and then deleting it. This will delete all emails in a thred. Unlike Thunderbird, Becky uses a cursor, it doesn't display emails in an html viewer requiring browse mode. So the issue with repeating the first line is not in Becky. Note: Read-To-End doesn't work in Becky the last time I tried. I think I created some set files that read with page up and down instead. We shouldn't have to do that to get that problem to stop. Yes it solves the problem for A while. But you have eventually go back in and do it again. I wish someone that works with window-eyes at a squared would fix this and not just tell us. That they are not having this issue or they can't reproduce this. That gets so old hearing that all of the time. So please can this issue please be addressed and taken of. -- Casey ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. RE: WE 9.5 Stopped reading Becky Email
Joseph, If you just installed Becky for the first time, there are some settings in Becky that you need to change for it to work correctly. There is a Knowledge Base article that describes the settings. One of the changes is necessary to use the arrow keys to read messages. I assume that this is not Dave's problem though, although it probably is worth to checking to be sure that settings within becky didn't change. WE 9.5 won't read Becky emails and more
Hi Chris, Looks like I was not having the Display Driver load at start up. Closing Becky and WE, and then reStarting both, seems to have worked. I then closed both, and shut down the entire system, completely off. Restarted the system and now WE reds Becky as it should. Also, the SEND TO- problem mentioned, is also fixed. The Flash Drive is shown in the Send To list now. Interesting! I do not envy the Task you folks at A I Squared have to do when making your Screen Reader work. The Combinations of possibilities WE has to read must be in the Millions. And these are all potential conflicts and malfunctions if any little thing changes when Microsoft pushes another Update on Win 10 users etc. When I worked in Tech Support, keeping up with the Changes was frantic, as even though all systems ran MS Windows, they did not always run the same. And the same went for programs running in Windows. They would run, but they would not always run the same from one system to another. It was difficult to not become quite profane. Thanks for the Work around. grumpy Dave -- Dave <dlh...@centurylink.net> ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Hi, Make sure you follow the steps outlined here: http://www.gwmicro.com/Support/Knowledge_Base/?kbnumber=GWKB2061 Next, make sure the Window is maximized. Also go to help/about window-eyes and see if it says anything about a display driver not being attached. If it does, restart Window-eyes. Note, if you restart Window-eyes with Becky running it won't read the message body. Re: about becky!
Hi. To sort the address book, use your mouse key to place the pointer on the column header. Click on the column header to sort. Clicking a second time on the desired column header will reverse the sort order. To include the original email as part of your reply, from the "Tools" menu, open the General Setup" option. Within that option are 12 tabs. Use your arrow keys to get to the tab called "Citation". Then use your tab key to get to the checkbox for "use edit template when replying" and use the spacebar to check it. I may not have the wording of the labels exactly right, but, should be close enough for you to recognize what I am trying to communicate. If not, write to me off-list and I'll give it another try. I use Becky, but I remember trying setting after setting in an attempt to get Becky to work. At first, Becky would not Receive or Send email. then I stumbled upon getting it to Receive, but still could not Send. Lots more Fussing with Settings, and Finally, Becky would Send and Receive Emails. My Favorite email Program is Eudora, and while some here have gotten it to work, I just figured it was past time to move on to something New. Becky is OK, but so far, nothing I have tried is as easy to use as Eudora. Guess it is what you learn first and get ultra familiar with that sticks with you for Years. I have used Thunderbird, Windows Live, Becky, and one other that I cannot remember its name, and for one reason or another, they all seem awkward to me. Go Figure! RE: BECKY!: Sorting new entries in address book
I've been hanging on to this for 11 years. on Saturday, July 30, 2005 @ 09:31 AM > how do you have becky sort mails in descending order, i have them in > ascending order and cannot figure out how to change it? also, can you > have becky sort names in the addressbook in alphabetical order? Standard Windows functionality. Simply click the column header that you want to sort on (Sent Date, Received Date, etc.) until you see it in the order you want. There are three states like I stated before. Ascending, descending, and none/no-sort. You can sort on fields in the address book the same way...just click on the column header you want. Name, Email-Address, Address Group...whatever. Re: becky email
Hi. I called WE Support about this same problem earlier today. I am using a new Windows10 (not an upgrade from Windows7), WE 9.4, and I bypass the logon screen when I start up the machine. Check to see if video support for WE has been lost. Do this by opening WE control panel, going to the Help menue, and pressing enter on "About...". If you hear that the video driver is missing, close WE completely and then launch WE. Then try tabbing to the message window in BECKY! If you still don't hear the message, close BECKY! and launch it again. hth ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Re: becky!
I use Becky. I just sent my wife a pdf file. Here's whatI do. Go to the folder, where the file is. Highlight it and right click or hit application key. Arrow up to "send to" right arrow and find Becky. Make sure that Becky is open ahead of time. Hit enter and an email will come up. type in the sender and send. Works for me with all attachments. www.harmonicaworkshops.com www.woodeneyemusic.com On Sat, 18 Jun 2016 16:43:20 +0100 Bob via Talk <talk@lists.window-eyes.com> wrote: > using Becky can anyone with sending pdf files, when I try it comes out > all messed up. > many thanks. Re: F8 and BECKY!
there is a way to make Becky use the IE component so you can press enter on links, just as you would the IE browser. It is the 21st item in the third dialog tab of the general options menu, the second item down where the first is convert to plain text which I and many others mostly, use. I have though, on messages such as those from Kim Kommando, used that IE component to get to hidden links or tables. -- Curtis Delzer <curtis1...@verizon.net> On Tue, 07 Jun 2016 09:53:00 -0500 Steve Jacobson via Talk <talk@lists.window-eyes.com> wrote: > Martha, > > I don't know of any cases where Browse Mode works in Becky. Re: F8 and BECKY!
on those parts of Becky that do not invoke the IE component to read the messages, you'll have to use the conventional ways to highlight text. -- Curtis Delzer <curtis1...@verizon.net> On Tue, 07 Jun 2016 08:53:03 -0500 Martha Reaney via Talk <talk@lists.window-eyes.com> wrote: > Hi. > > Using WE 9.4, Win 10 and latest BECKY!. > > I have some emails where I am able to use F8 to block and copy text from the > body of an email in my INCOX. > On other INBOX emails, f8 does not work.
