Runs nicely, the keyboard shortcuts seem to work again in HTML message
viewer.

What hasn't changed from betas - when trying to reply to certain HTML
E-Mails (like German MediaMarkt or 1&1, I can provide samples if it
helps), it takes long tens of seconds to initialize the reply window,
during which time TheBat mostly doesn't respond. Strangely, other -
optically similarly long - HTML newsletters like XING are there much
faster (still, blocking in the process).

Apart from the justified question "who the hell would feel the urge to
reply to newsletters?", I suppose someone may be getting legit HTML mails where
replying makes sense and possibly that can be optimized? :)

Thank you!

For me, I hope to have found the right file, it was a 17MB large thebat.lng in

That seems to work for me: when the window is narrow enough so that not all
the tabs (under the message list) are shown, scrolling the mouse button on

2b. Click on the same message in the message list, do the same: reply dialog

Re: 9.2.0.4 - quick search stopped working?

2020-06-22 Thread Viktor Kabelac
Hello,

today, when searching for a particular message, the "quick search"
functionality seemingly stopped working.

When I type letters on the message list now, nothing happens, and when I press
"enter" afterwards, the message is opened in new window - so apparently no
trace of the quick search.

I would even attribute this to a new feature that needs some configuring,
but I saw the quick search tabs with the values I entered previously,
today, so it had to be working up to a certain point.

No amount of restarting seems to help.

Did anyone maybe experience this behavior too, can the quick search be
configured somewhere, by a setting I couldn't find yet?

Thank you, best regards
Viktor

One thing I noticed, not having kept in touch for a few weeks: the new
versions (9.1.116 not, 91.1.18 seems to already be affected) seem to have
much more vertical spacing in tree views (folders, message list):
 Current: https://paste.pics/9C4DF
 Previous: https://paste.pics/9C4E7

I tend to like the older more compact view more.

Is this a feature and there to stay, or are those new libraries that
can/will be tweaked to more compact display?

Thank you!

Doesn't happen to me, similar to Dimitar (and on IMAP, too):
- I have set my TheBat! to delayed delivery +1 minute
(I had difficulty finding that setting in the editor window and still
haven't found any persistent setting for that. Also creating a custom delay
doesn't let it show in the manu immediately...kinda counter-intuitive to me
all in all)

Still:
- I compose a message, have it saved to Outbox
- I reopen the message
- Message is not parked, it has a clock symbol
- Message doesn't get send "under my hands" - not by scheduled sending and not
by manual Alt-F2 on the main window

Re: 9.1.6.5 - style and redundancy in customize toolbars dialog

Runs fine here, thank you!

I took a short glance at the toolbar customize functionality and found
three possible issues/a possible redundancy:

Screenshot: https://paste.pics/8KNYG

1. There is a checkbox "Use large icons instead of small" and there is a
"Toolbar view style".
The toolbar view style lets me select small/large icons with/without text.
The checkbox lets me make icons large even if I chose small in the view
style.
It seems to me like the icon sice checkbox is redundant, since the same can
be done using the toolbar view style - unless one of them controls places
the other doesn't

2. When in this dialog and I open a menu of the main window (to see the
effects of the setting I am tampering with), when the menu loses focus, its
label keeps a rather thick "focus" border

3. The font in the customize dialog seems different style than the font in
the rest of the TheBat interface... My impression of the customize dialog was
that
it's a lot of small text, especially the shortcuts tree.

Cheers and thank you for your work one more time!

Viktor

Paste image attachment over focused header line inserts the image *right there*

2020-01-28 Thread Viktor Kabelac
Hello TB-BETA,

I have noticed this behavior with my previous .15 and now .16 x32 today (+ just
tested
with the Christmas release version x64 on another PC, that one doesn't do it):

- start a new message (HTML+plain format in my case)
- place the caret into a header row (such as Recipient)
- attempt to paste an image (pulling it from another window using the mouse)
into said header row
- in my case, the image lands right in there: https://paste.pics/7V84Q

The entire exercise started after I was apparently unable to paste an image
attachment *anywhere* in the message window (I ended up using the button).
Strangely, that behavior seems gone now, Paste is being accepted (again).

Only the image recipient keeps looking somewhat weird...

Can anyone confirm the image pasting in header rows or the message window not
accepting
attachment pastes?

Thank you!

For me, it was visible without turning on - even in this version.
Maybe some kind of a x32/x64 difference - as with the "use skins"?

Accidentally, I have noticed some quite interesting tags defined in my
TheBat!
https://paste.pics/7FI8T

Since I do not really use these tags, I cannot exclude I created them
accidentally (such
as by inadvertedly pressing a keyboard shortcut while having random text
marked),
but the names sound like they may be coming from the TheBat! team too...

Also interesting - CRASHWHILSTDOINGNOTHING has a green color defined in the
full label list, but none in the drop down on the Tags column.
And 5.3.2.1INBOXANALYSERDOESN'TWORK? isn't present in the full list.

Can anyone see these labels too, or are they just my messed up data?
Thanks for any feedback! :)

Please check Options/Preferences/Uther options/UI style/Use skins
Normally, this seems to need to be checked before the selection of skins
appears in the menu.

For some reason, it's there for me even with that option unchecked
(separate subthread here) - that';s how I noticed in the first place.

As Martin has mentioned outside of this thread, there is now a setting to
use skins in options/other options/UI style.

Never the less, the skinning feature was active immediately when I first
started this new beta - after Martin mentioned it, I went to check that
checkbox to find it *unchecked*.
Skins are active in my TheBat! though.

Could there be some zombie setting in the persistent settings files of my
Thebat! that causes this de-facto-active-but-inactive-by-setting feature?

BTW. I find the Pumpkin skin quite impressive with its coffin checkboxes
and crossed-bones close window controls :)
Too bad the dark skins leave the message lists quite light-colored. I'd
imagibe a dark skin to make everything dark...

I now have names for it too :)
This version seems to have brought a whole new skinning feature I haven't
noticed before ("Options/SkinName"; and in fact, the old EXE doesn't show it).
That's, I suppose, the reason for the EXE size.

My TheBat! was sporting the Caramel skin by default, hence the brownish
colors.
Seven Classic seems to get me pretty close to wht I had before, still not
the same.

Is there possibly a skin corresponding to the old one - probably simply
taking the Windows UI settings?

Running here, no exceptions on start or exit.

What I have noticed though is that the EXE is almost twice as large and
this version seems to bring a ocmpletely different GUI theme (from
flattish windows-gray, it's not brownish with a lot of border shading).
Is that intentional or just a theme setting choosing a different default?

Possibly a stupid question - where can I see the Image viewer with those
prev/next buttons?
For me, having a mail with images attached, I can see the attachment tabs below
the
message pane and I can switch between those tabs, but I never noticed any
navigation buttons. Is there a specific "image viewer" feature that I

I was about to report this in the message editor, didn;t notice yet that
it's a more general issue. I can confirm that behavior, in the message

For me, Alt+U opens the Utilities menu correctly, but there, some of the
items do not have Alt-Shortcuts - including the "Insert" item you're trying
to use. You cannot get there using letters, but you still can use cursor
keys. On other items in the same menu, the Alt-letters are defined.

Maybe the request would be to equip all menu items with Alt-letters?

Same here - the same problem on start as before "there was a problem
starting pluging...".
Zygmunt - would you be able to please provide me an x32 of the .18 - or,
even better., .17.
Unfortunately the older betas seem to have been kicked with no sign of
attem pting to put them back on the download server :(
Thanks a lot!

9.0.0.19: Older betas gone from download location?

2019-11-11 Thread Viktor Kabelac
Hello TheBat! team,

after I got problems with 9.0.0.19, I tried to revert back to 0.17 that
had before. Unfortunately it seems like all the older betas are gone from
the download location, so that I, being lazy me that sometimes just
downloads+extract directly the temporary location, I now have nothing to
revert to, save for some really old 0.12 beta.

Was the old beta removal intentional, and could you please provide several
betas back to make reverting to an older beta easier?

Thank you & have a nice day!

This version runs in principle, but it reported "couldn't start plug-ins,
removed all, please add them again".
After first attempt to re-add Antispam
Sniper and program restart it was silently gone again. After a second
attempt the problem message came up again.

It seems like this version doesn't work very well with plugins, or at least
with Antispam Sniper.

The problem with standatd toolbars (all minus AntispamSniper) disappeared

I'm utterly sorry, I have no idea how I managed to end up with an 8.8.9

Still, that version reported as 8.8.9, so somehow an old binary must have
sneaked in :(

That's interesting - it merges in here: https://paste.pics/73MY3
How does your window look like - like mine, rather pure white without ribbons?
And to clarify - it wasn't merged on its own when TheBat! came up. I moused
it in manually - but unlike earlier, it was possible now.
Its window lookes stranger now though when it's not merged in (as shown in
previous screenshot)...

Just started this version after a week off.
Seems to run just fine. Thank you!

+ No toolbar flickering for me twhen I move a message.

The ribbons are gone as it seems and the entire toolbar area is now white for
me...I bet there were some
background colors involved in my last (0.0.9) alpha.

+ The AntispamSniper toolbar now merges as a peer between the other toolbars.
Its appearance seems changed - when it's floating, it now shows the full
window title bar inclusing "close" comntrol, with a seemingly surplus white
bar above it: https://paste.pics/73KPH

But all of therse seem to me like an effect of the changed gear behing the
removed ribbons - is it so?

Probably an entirely different issue, but the Antispam Sniper toolbar
still doesn't dock in with the others, would only dock in in its own row
(waste of precious screen height) or float strangely, staying fixed when

As described by me for 9.0.0.2 and by Martin for 9.0.0.5 - ther Antirpam
Sniper toolbar doesn't behave quite nicely.

Below my older report (mainly for its screenshots).
The toolbar seems to be somehow an independent window that stays where it
is even when I move the TheBat! window. It looks like "too bit and undocked,
refreshing too late" when TheBat! shows underneath it, but when
TheBat! is moved away, the Antispam Sniper window shows just what it is: a full
window not tied to the TheBat! toolbar.

While searching for a control to se the HTML text color (there is one for
the background, I seem to miss one for the text color...is it gone do I
need to look better?) I noticed the "StyleEdit" (in the "HTML/Plain" editor)

Upon pressing, it gives me this one:

unfortunately not: upon analyzing, a window comes up that seems to contain
quite a few invisible options (note the last markable row and the scroll bar)
  https://paste.pics/6WAVY
and on closing, an "invalid pointer operation" notification window pops up.
The first report of this was from Dimitar Tomov from "Sunday, October 6, 2019,
3:01:59 AM" in
the 9.0.0.5 thread.

Even after the Access exceptions reported in a sister message, after I

One more regaring the ASS (hahaha) toolbar: After I switched ribbon mode to
"show tabs", each time the ribbons get shown, the Antispam Snipper toolbar
loses its tailored looks, shows window heading hiding controls and only
redraws to the usual state, icon by icon, when mouse-hovered:

Running here fine so far.
License not valid anymore (as expected).
So far I need to get used to the ribbons, some functions are new to me
(Social Network/Facebook), I'll check what they are for.

One thing I noticed - the AntispamSniper toolbar doesn't seem to blend in
just the same as Bat!'s own ones do, it either snaps in above
 https://paste.pics/6UR9H
or keeps floating,
   https://paste.pics/6URA6
but I can't get it inline with the other toolbars to save space
as I used to.

Also - does the "Home" tab do anything specific?

Thanks & cheers

2019-06-04 Thread Viktor Kabelac
Hello Maxim,

The installer says my license key wouldn;t be valid anymore if I install
this version. When I tried to check in the About dialog (as I don't know by
heart, until when my current license is valid), I noticed the behavior
already noted by Miguel A. Urech for version 8.0.14: the About dialog only
states "License valid until version 8", which should still encompass 8.9.
But probably the license states a minor version too, only the dialog isn't
showing it.

Would it be possible for the dialog to show the entire version till when
the license is valid, so I know what I am for in?

Thank youm best regards

TL;DR:
Produce sources: "not really"

As for "Update plugin": no, has TheBat! v5 only, doesn't want to buy a new
version, would have to rewrite almost from scratch for x64
Would a donated new TheBat! license maybe help?

Re: Color choser: Predefined color set and Windows UI colors missing

2019-01-09 Thread Viktor Kabelac
Hello Gwen,

I was going to say the following:

> The More Colors button is not reachable by keyboard!
It is for me, even though not via Tab as I would have expcted: Arrow-down
several times jumps into the color table, and then aftre the lowest color table
row, the docus jumps onto that button.

> Please extend the palette:
> - with the predefined Windows UI color settings
> - with tooltips for palette if the UI colors or a text field which
> contains description which Windows UI element color it is
It never occured to be to select colors for, say, e-mail text, by the
Windows elements colors.

But then I noticed that a widget similar to the text color chooser is being
used for example for the color groups color selections - and that - IN THIS
ONE - the arrow behavior is different and the button you mentioned is
indeed *not* reachable the same as i the text color chooser.

Are you referring to a color chooser at a specific location where the Windows
element colors seem to naturally make sense?

Would it maybe make sense to add the windows elements' colors into that
chooser and leave that for txe mail text colors simpler?

Analogous keyboars navigation in all flavors of the color chooser would
make sense in any case, I would say :)

I wouldn't accuse Maxim of being lazy.  In my case, with TB running, I am using 3.68 gb of ram out of 12.  With TB closed

Me neither. But then it's not him being quoted as "It doesn't seem to matter". It does, on larger scale, anyway.

I am using 3.5.  I guess I'm not feeling overly impacted.  12 gb of ram is not especially high end these days.

This may be the source of the mistake. Your computer doesn't seem to be
doing much. And TheBat! is not the only program people run.
In my case, out of my 16GB, Firefox feels free to eat anywhere all the way
to 8, Thunderbird takes several gigs too, on bad days, Eclipse is no fly
weight either.
It's so easy to fill all the available memory with one program "because it looked OK on my machine".

And, once again, thanks Maxim for the high quality tastefully done images.  I bet it took some effort to acquire them.

I'm sure. And I'm sure there are better places for >32MB of temporary graphics.

Unless you understand how that happened.  In this case, the images will be gone when this year's Christmas version is retired.

If the Christmas graphics is what inflated the EXE to twice its size. I, to be honest, didn't even expect that.

Sure, I was too lazy to think about it.  I remember the years of various email client users railing against the
useless creeping incursion of html into email.  Pegasus, Becky, many others.  It seems that Sylpheed is the last holdout
of any significance.  Change marches on, your perception of whether it is progress or not will vary.

You can see the results for yourself: Try to reply to your own (or, rewriten in original HTML reply form to serve as an example, this very) mail in TheBat! How does the qouting look? How are the levels colored, how well will the footer be handled?

This is the unfortunate thinking of today. Just multiply that with 20 programs
and you'll see where it gets you in terms of # uselessly wasted RAM.
Similar with Android these days: every meaningless "App" eats its 60 MB of
memory whether it's doing anything or not, totalling to 100% memory usage
and laggy phone. Just because "memory is cheap" and other lazy programmer
thinking.

The days of chasing every kilobyte are gone, but just doubling the program

OK, again here since I got lured to an orphaned branch in the .20 thread :)

This *doesn't happen* for me: Windows 10 x64, running x32 TheBat! 8.6.0.20
shows the splash screen for several seconds - it feels like ca. 6sec.

My TheBat! is starting in maximized mode and the splash screen stays
several seconds.

I actually do not use the address book that much - I rely on older e-mails and
the TheBat's address history instead.
Regardless, I, too, use many mail addresses and can relate to your issue with
having all known mail addresses added to mails to every person I correspond
with.

Just from reading your problem description and the original issue - it seems to
me that the secondary e-mail addresses are only being "dug up" if the option
"Automatically add secondary addresses to the following field" of the contact
is set. And the default value of this field seems to be "don't add".
So by default no secondary mail addresses should be dug up from anywhere.
=> Does that happen for you even if this field is not set - or do you have that
field set and want to have secondary addresses used - but for new messages
only, not for replies, forwards etc?
