Re: Re[4]: Palm Synch
Hi, thanks for your response. Before I dive in to the subject, those that are looking at my e-mail header and wondering why I'm not using TB right now, the explanation is simple, I'm on the road, I hate laptops and use my Palm to do e-mail. Now back to the e-mail: Heck, I'd pay for the feature of a nice synch with my Palm. I Me too. just posted my ugly way I have to synch now. (Going from the bat, to a flat file, to yahoo, then from yahoo to the palm ). Even the I tried that, too. But it isn't a real 'sync', it's just a transfer. I've tried all sorts of tricks and it just hasn't worked out (being a Linux user, I even thought of doing a frequent export of TB's AB, and using pilot-sync, doing a dump of the Palm's AB, diffing (diff) them out and showing me the differences and the manually applying them - Argh! -). actually 'synch'. Basically all the above worked for was an initial population of palm entries from the Bat. That's right. It just hits my kidney to keep two listings with the same data, my most up-to-date one is the Address Book on the Palm since I have it always with me. Yes, keep pestering ritlabs. I remember this was a complaint about Just thought I should let you know that the CC I did of a previous mail on the thread, bounced back. manager that would synch with the Palm. Maybe you could set up a web page petition thing where people could post their desire for such a feature? I'm in the process of moving across the country, and then re-installing myself. If someone can begin doing that, I'll do my part of doing the conduit (did I mention that I'd do it for free?!?) The Bat remains in RAM
Since yesterday The Bat (1.6c) acts strangely: After ending The Bat, the program remains in RAM and occupies between 92 and 96% of the CPU's utilization time. First i thought it is because it's cleaning up folders or doing similar tasks, but this task doesn't end until i am shutting it down by hand via the Task Manager. RIPE is the European IP authority, similar to ARIN in the US and APNIC in the Asia-Pacific region. They're all regional parts of IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority). When filtering on such a header it wouldn't make any difference for TB whether it's a formal header or included in a comment, because you'd filter on the presence of X-NCC-RegID: in the kludges. But when you're running a mailing list that only allows messages with an X-NCC-RegID: header it makes an essential difference. (No, I don't know why Per thinks he needs it.) I need it to reference which Local Internet Registry I represent whenever I communicate, both when talking to automated services and to regular people. And to get back on topic - I just tested it and their software requires the exact header to be present so the comment thing won't work. I don't know whether you're running your own mail-server, but some of those can insert additional headers, with my own server it would be a minor issue. Yes, we run our own mailserver (qmail) but in order to do something like that we need to cut into the smtp-queue chain (not that easy) and create something (script with a check of some kind) that ensures that we don't get that header added to all the thousands of mails sent through it daily... Both all our staff and our many customers use that mailserver. What we really need for TB! is a hook for post-processing of mails prior to queuing in the outbox (and thus prior to sending). Such a generic beastie would open up for all sorts of nifty addons, from simple added headers to all sorts of automated processing that certainly shouldn't be stuffed into TB! even if a lot of people could find a use for it (no bloatware, thank you). Actually, it turned out to be even easier than that. I used the Regular Expression \S which is for a Non-White Space character (not to be confused with \s which is White Space Character). Migrating Eudora 5.1 to The Bat! 1.60c
I just downloaded The Bat! 1.60c on Windows 2000, and I would like to import my 95MB Eudora 5.1 mailboxes to The Bat!. Unfortunately, when I run the import wizard, and point it to the right folder containing my Eudora mail, it doesn't do any importing. So I read through the entire archives and found these threads (name is the thread-starter): - *Importing from Outlook, Victor Wong *Eudora Conversion Revisited, Michael Disabato *Migrating Problems. Going from Outlook to The Bat! What a PITA!, Brien King *hotmail? Eudora, Paul Cartwright - Some of the solutions proposed were: find an older copy of The Bat! 1.53d (from Tucows) where the Eudora import works; from Eudora 5.1, export to a Unix mailbox format; get a program called Mailbag Assistant to help with all that mail (I realize my 95MB of mail is not that much compared to what some of you may have.) I don't want to use Mailbag Assitant because from what I understand, it allows you to look at and work with many types of mail, but it doesn't convert them to anything. The Bat! looks powerful and fast, and I think it would be able to handle my mail well enough that I don't need a separate Mailbag Assistant program. So... what do people suggest is the best option? I will try both, but if there are subtle errors I might not pick them up until one day when I'm looking for an old message... so I would prefer hearing any tried-and-true method for this kind of migration. I don't have many addresses in Eudora, so I'm not interested in Address Book type migration... just the email and its folder structure please. Also... all my Eudora folders are what The Bat! calls common folders... will I be able to import them as common folders? Or does The Bat! not handle common folders very well. I like the idea of keeping all folders within each of my several email accounts, but sometimes friends email to any of my accounts, and for those I'd like to filter them into common folders, and not worry about keeping them within a certain email account. Hello Nathalie Marlier Seigneuret, On Monday, April 15 2002 at 02:03 AM PDT, you wrote: It seems that PGP adds a dash + a space before lignes beginning with a dash, which makes the dash dash space before a signature unusable, as the email goes out with - -- instead. What you see is referred to as dash-escaping and is done to preserve the PGP headers that all begin with dashes. It's a necessary evil with PGP/GPG and it will invalidate your signature delimiter. Not to worry though, as most people who reply to a PGP signed message should be replying to quoted text only thereby stripping out everything... PGP signatures, personal signatures, List trailers, etc. BTW, I would upgrade your version of PGP as the MD5 Hash Algorithm that you see at the top of your Postings has inherent weaknesses, and version 2.6 is very old and you may well run into compatibility problems with Users who use newer versions of both PGP and GPG.
