No way to purge unread messages in common folder

2008-02-08 Thread Doug Higby
Hello,

My Gmail account pulls in messages for the beta list for TheBat! Message count
is
over 5,000 and I have it set to keep *only* 300 messages. The messages are
sorted
and placed in a common folder:
Lists
  TheBat!
 Beta

The folder settings for Beta are set to Max stored messages = 300, and I even
tried
max keep messages = 30 days. But nothing will get rid of them if they are
unread. For
my Gmail account, I have checked the box that says Purge unread messages

Is this a bug?

Unfortunately you can't set 'purge unread messages' for common
folders, it's not in their 'account properties'.
The settings of the original account have no meaning for the common
folder, as the messages aren't associated anymore with that account.

No bug, though you could consider it an oversight.

You ca simulate Delete Unread Messages with Virtual Folders. Create

Purge unread messages?

2004-10-05 Thread sten Hggmark
Hello TBUDL,

Question:
Is it possible to (automatically) purge folders from messages
that are for example x days old, even if they are unread?

Elaboration:
I subscribe to a few mailing lists (like this one)
which I _would like_ to follow regularly, but periodically the
number of unread mail adds up to staggering quantities...

It would be nice of old messages just disappeared out of the
folder after a certain time, read or not. Preferably by some
automated process, like a filter or a setting in folder
properties. Have I missed some simple setting?

Purge unread messages? mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

did you notice that if you start a line with a dot(s), then yahoo
server adds two more? It also may alter thusly the PGP signed text
and make signature BAD. See this, I'll begin next three lines with
 1, 2, and 3 dots.

 .. is the first line.
 ... is the second one.
  is the third one.

The outgoing mail client should add one dot per line if the lines only
contain dots.

To signal the receiving server that the message is finished, the
client sends a single . on a line by itself. However, if I want to
send a single dot, that would confuse the server.

SMTP and POP3 protocols use a single dot on a line as end-of-message marker.
Since this would prevent you from sending a dot on a line:
.
in the message body, all lines that start with a dot are escaped by
prepending them with another dot, and it's the client's task to strip that
dot from the line when displaying the message (and verifying it).

for personal mail, replace guest.arnes.si with isg.si

2 is not equal to 3 - not even for very large values of 2.

MB I don't want to do this. But aren't the settings in
MB Folder/Properties/Keep messages in the base for ( ) days and
MB Folder/Properties/On exit remove old messages
MB the settings you are looking for?

Well, no, because sometimes I don't need something like
that for weeks, or days at least .. lol But when the
traffic gets heavy on some of the lists, and it looks like
being an all day project just to get all the mail read
once, then I sometimes have to do a triage thing :-)

It would be kind of nice to be able to right click on the
folder and just do 'delete unread messages' ... I suspect
the reason we don't have one is that it's really kind of
counter-intuitive ... it's not really obvious that someone
might want to dump just the *unread* messages.

But sometimes that's what it takes to get from here to
there :-)
