I enjoyed that in-studio "Wait Wait" far more than the usual version.
Reminded me of the glory days (and, yes, I won Carl Kassel's voice back in
the 90s).
Also read tonight that both Maher and John Oliver will be new this week. I
welcome the latter and wish the former would just melt away like
The wife and I are ending the second week of our own stints of working
remotely. In her case, the office was asked to stay home on Monday the 9th
to test the company's remote capabilities. By Wednesday, they were under
orders to not come in at all. In my case, the campus closed down on Tuesday
I'm in (what I assume) is the middle of the monologue, and it's truly
painful, especially the pauses for the (non-existent) laughs. Mark Evanier
suggested last week that Colbert try doing the show from home, Skyping in
guests, but if this is the level of broadcast that would result, I'd prefer
While I like a lot of what Colbert does, those segments with the mother
make me want to throw things through the television screen. I'd rather be
trapped in an elevator with Kristen Wiig.

The thing the PAs always yell at audiences at the Ed is how much of the
show the audience is, and a show like tonight's is proof of that. So much
of that material just died without 400 saps cackling at it. If Colbert does
tape next week, I think the show would be well-advised to move out of the

We got a notification tonight that the Mayor of San Francisco has shut down
all non-essential gatherings of more than 50 people in city-owned buildings
for the next two weeks. That means at least one theatre company had to
cancel shows, not to mention the Ballet, the Opera, and the Symphony. My
I'll add my heartiest congratulations to Kevin (since my FB version of it
was kind of meh -- just like SNL ...) and mention that I do indeed have a
show running in March and April; a world premiere called "The Lady
Scribblers," about some of the first women to write for the English stage.
I can sympathize. I’ve never been more nervous in my life than I was in my
first game. My knees were shaking like I was jackhammering. Performing live
before a thousand people? Child’s play. First game on Jeopardy? Terror.

If the repulsive color scheme of the show (which looks like the reason Howard
Johnson’s went belly-up) weren’t enough to keep me from watching, Oswalt would
be.
