[TV orNotTV] NFL Post-Season Flex

2024-01-13 Thread Ben Scripps
Sunday's Steelers at Buffalo game gets delayed to Monday at 4:30 (CBS) thanks
to the massive winter storm pummeling the region:

(Here in Michigan, we're still digging out from a foot of snow overnight, with
50+ mph winds and more snow predicted for later today.)

Re: [TV orNotTV] J! contestants fail to recognize Led Zeppelin... X reacts

2023-12-02 Thread Ben Scripps
The second to last clue in my first game was a map which popped up on the
screen; I buzzed, but had difficulty making out the details enough to respond
correctly. (Also, my brain didn't work correctly, but it's much easier to
blame technology.)

The only other problem I had with the monitor was when a picture clue came up
and Alex read the clue, but nothing ever showed up on the screen. They had to
stop tape and reload a new clue for us.

BTW, when they have video clues of celebrities reading the clue, the
appropriate box on the game board displays about the last half or so of the
text of the clue.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Fox's Mid-Season

2023-11-22 Thread Ben Scripps
Once or twice a season, I'll drop in for an episode. I typically go in with
the same expectations I have with SNL: tired, unoriginal, past its prime,
treading water. Unlike SNL, I usually come out thinking it was better than I
expected, but still nothing I need to have back in my life on a weekly basis.

Re: [TV orNotTV] "Only" fans of quiz shows

2023-06-15 Thread Ben Scripps
Nitpicky, but the connecting wall is actually the penultimate round; th y ndw
th th m ssn gvwls rnd.

I'd always wondered what an American version of OC would be like. Today's
puzzle took me all of two minutes to solve with no mistakes, and the bulk of
that time was spent in an ultimately futile search for the red herrings that
make the original so challenging and enjoyable.

As I recall, they didn't really say anything either way about it. Looking back
at my notes, the only real guidance they gave us in my taping session in terms
of responses (aside from the technicalities like dropping definite articles)
was to be economical with words; don't say "Alex, I'd like to take 'Academy
Award Winning Actresses of the 1980s' for two thousand, please" when "Actresses
for two" works just as well but saves time. And saved time means more game
play.

The producers may or may not like it, but based on the generic promo they put
out for my week of shows, their editors sure do; I think every goofy little
thing I did made it into that :30 promo.

looking at the Mackinac Bridge and news music running in the background.
(Curiously, in one of the Jeopardy! breaks, they switched off of the camera to
about five seconds of what appeared to be a political commercial featuring Tim
Kaine being asked about abortion. Perhaps there's a Sinclair in Virginia
that's been feeding copies of their shows up to Traverse City?)

Their newscasts are still limited to a single anchor standing in front of a
monitor with a static logo in it. Their weather graphics appear to have been
either unaffected or fully restored, but those are the only graphics they have.
It's pretty pitiful. And I'm sure market #118 is nowhere near the top of
Sinclair's list of priorities.

[TV orNotTV] Sinclair Ransomware Attack

2021-10-19 Thread Ben Scripps
I didn't see any mention of this 'round this list; over the weekend, Sinclair
was hit by a "cybersecurity incident":
https://www.vice.com/en/article/k7844a/sinclair-broadcast-disrupted-by-ransomware-attack

Whatever it was, it hit our local Sinclair stations really hard. As near as I
can tell, they haven't been running *any* local commercial breaks during
network time since Sunday morning, letting ABC fill with promos and NBC with
the animated peacock logo they put up during local breaks. They've apparently
also been unable to download syndicated programming for air; this week's
episodes of Wheel and Jeopardy! have been replaced with programming from the
station's subchannels, and this afternoon's Kelly Clarkson talk show looked a
lot more like an episode of "Knight Rider", all presumably to avoid sitting in
black for an hour. (It also apparently knocked out their phone system, which
has resulted in *our* phone at work ringing off the hook from people who can't
call *them* to complain.)

Re: [TV orNotTV] And the new “Jeopardy!” host is rumored to be…

2021-09-21 Thread Ben Scripps
We also didn't get together as a group after our taping, although we were all
friendly with one another (I'm still FB friends with eight or nine of the
people at our taping). Dad, Angela and I ended up dining at the glamorous
Olive Garden at the mall across the street from the hotel.

But things were also getting weird that week with Covid--the topic of
conversation at breakfast the next morning was contingency plans for getting
home should an air travel shutdown occur--so not getting together didn't really
seem that odd.

I'm gonna disagree with you on that one. I've no problem whatsoever with the
expansion of a last name only response to first and last names, but it seems to
me like both Oz and Katie Couric have added more "explainers" in their time--if
a player rings in and says "Who was Lincoln?", I don't want the host to say
"That's right--he was at Ford's Theatre seeing 'Our American Cousin' when Booth
shot him". I don't recall Trebek doing that very often, and when he did, it
was usually during Final, where it doesn't really disrupt the rhythm of the
game. When I was on, the contestant coordinator flat out told us when
selecting clues to shorten the category names and values ("Rivers for sixteen"
instead of "South American Rivers for sixteen hundred") and to not say "please"
because every second counts when you're playing the game--those little host
tidbits could literally change the outcome of the game.

One thing I'd really, really like to see is a guest host capable of even a
moderate understanding of the scoring. Alex understood the scoring system
well--you could hear the disapproval in his voice when a player down by $9,000
in Double would hit a late Daily Double and wager too small ("Just $1200?
Okay."), and you could hear the approval when a third place player in Final
would wager just enough to get into a strategic position ("Interesting wager;
we'll see if it works out"). In tonight's Final, Oz sounded positively
astonished when the third place player revealed he'd wagered everything, which
would put him into first place with a correct response.

Re: [TV orNotTV] How I would fix the Jeopardy tiebreaker

2021-01-30 Thread Ben Scripps
On my first episode, I finished the DJ! round with $9,400; Megan was in the
lead with $18,800. My correct response in FJ! put us into a tie, and if she
hadn't wagered anything, we would have gone to a tiebreak. I'm forever
grateful we didn't, 'cause she owned me on the button all day.

Looking at my contestant agreement, it doesn't appear to specifically exclude
collusion between players, though there is an "I am aware that it is a Federal
offense punishable by fine and/or imprisonment for anyone to rig the outcome of
the Program with the intent to deceive the viewing public" and an "I shall not
share, or make any agreement or promise to share, any prize or any portion of
any prize with any other contestant". It feels like even a mildly-competent
lawyer could get his client off collusion charges if that was the crux of the
show's case, but there's also plenty of opportunity throughout to allow the
show to withhold prize money if you do something they feel is wrong.

Contestants who have yet to tape sit together in the first few rows of the
audience section stage left. I can't really speak to what it's like during the
shows; I was on the first episode we taped that day, so I never got the
experience of sitting in the audience and being nervous. (Having lost on the
Wednesday show, I also never got the experience of lunch in the Sony
commissary.) There's some down time in the green room while everyone takes
turns in the makeup chair and going over which stories go on the card for Alex,
but you're still within earshot of the contestant coordinators. The only real
opportunity to set something up would be in the van on the way to the
studio--the 2-1/2 mile trip from the hotel to the studio in the rain took,
rather remarkably, about 20 minutes--but at that point, you don't know anyone,
and if you're gonna collude with someone, you're gonna need to trust them.
(And trust that none of the the four or five other people in the van who
overheard your plotting will tattle to the contestant coordinators.)

This. CBS has a long-standing policy under which if live primetime programming
runs long on a weeknight, Colbert and British Jimmy slip and affiliates are
given their full 35 minute news window (and usually a little extra to round up
to the nearest minute). The timings they sent last night do indeed show a
revised start time for Colbert of 11:37:00.

Re: [TV orNotTV] What show were you watching when a major news event happened?

2020-07-23 Thread Ben Scripps
I was in middle school English when Challenger happened; they ended up sending
us home early that day.

Like Kevin, I slept through the first couple of hours of 9/11. When I woke up
around 11, I had a breathless message from a friend telling me to turn on the
TV because something terrible had happened. Once the tube warmed up, whatever
channel I was on was showing the Pentagon, and as I stepped up through the
channels to get to my station, each channel along the way happened to be either
on the Pentagon or in-studio anchors, leaving me to think “Well, a plane
crashing into the Pentagon certainly is tragic, but it’s not that big a deal."
Then I hit the Home Shopping Channel and saw they’d shut down and knew there
must be more than what I’d seen. One of the weirdest days I’ve ever had at
work.

And Stan, I got the reference as soon as I saw “Texxon”. Still one of my
favorite bits of SNL of all time.

Yep. Control room video of the finals of the Ultimate Tournament of Champions,

Re: [TV orNotTV] Ben On Jeopardy!

2020-05-21 Thread Ben Scripps
I never did hear a reason for why the check takes so long, but I don’t think
it’s to keep us from gabbing spoilers in advance. I would imagine it has
something to do with bureaucracy and paperwork and yadda.

The job definitely helped a lot. As part of my broadcasting major, I had to
take at least one class in performance, and I’ve been around the business for
almost a quarter of a century now, so while I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, I’d
say I’m certainly comfortable. Apologies again if I’ve told this story here
before, but my dad and step-mom came out to see the taping, and my dad was
worried I’d be nervous. No matter how many times I told him I’d be okay, he
kept telling me I should go out to our news set and sit in front of the cameras
with the lights on, just to get used to being under the lights. After the
taping was done, he told me that the moment he heard me respond “What is
Canada, eh?!”, he knew he’d been wrong and that I was perfectly fine.

Re: [TV orNotTV] Ben On Jeopardy!

2020-05-20 Thread Ben Scripps
When they called me, I actually had a two-part phone call; after I confirmed my
station isn’t a J! affiliate, the contestant coordinator said she still needed
to run it past her boss to make sure I was good. So I got the call, then had
to sit on that information for about four hours waiting to hear if I’d be
approved or shot down.

We haven’t promoted on-air at my station at all; the station that carries it in
my market is an NBC affil, and there isn’t really anything on NBC I watch, so I
haven’t seen if they’ve done anything local. I know they ran the promo Sony
produced which featured me heavily, but I haven’t heard anything directly from
them. I did do a radio interview with my old friend from college (we’re both
game show nerds), the local paper did a front-page story on me (small town
America…), but that’s it so far. I’ve watched each episode at work with the
few co-workers in the building and on a Zoom meeting with much of the remaining
staff at home. (BTW, here’s the video from Final on night #1:
http://www.benscripps.com/transfer/reax.mp4
 )

As for the $1,042—the thousand part was ‘cause I had some wiggle room for
wagering and didn’t want to be one of those people who wagers nothing. The $42
was a pure call-out to “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”.

There’s a delay between your last episode’s air date and when you actually get
the check, so getting the finances sorted for a trip this year was never really
in the cards.

But that’s the nice thing about the Proms; they seem to be able to survive and

First off, a blanket thanks to everyone who sent kind words—I knew there’d be a
lot of attention after this, but holy crap have my social media and text
messages exploded!

And I still feel a little bad about missing that DD; I took three semesters of
Russian in college, and to this day I think the best I could do is count to
ten.

BTW, and I can’t remember if I’ve told this here or not (I’ve told these
stories so many times over the past couple of days, so apologies if I’m
repeating myself), but I had absolutely zero awareness of the scores when I got
that last clue correct. My dad in the audience said he was watching the scores
and knew what needed to happen, but the look of surprise on my face is 100%
genuine.

When Ken lost his 75th, they had Nancy Zerg on an iso cam and were able to cut
to her reaction when Ken’s response was revealed. I really wish they had the
same for me when Alex said that about Megan, ‘cause I’d love to see the look on
my own face. In the diary of notes I wrote after getting back to the hotel,
all I wrote was that Alex said “Megan's not looking happy" and all I could
think was “Wait, what?!?”

Megan really had a tough decision on her wager; on the one hand, if she’s
confident in “America in the 1700’s”, play for the win, and if not, maybe play
for the tie. I don’t envy her for having to make that decision. If our roles
had been reversed, you would have seen a tiebreaker; I wouldn’t have wagered a
penny on that category if I didn’t have to.

And as to what I said to her afterward, I wish I could tell you, but I really
honestly don’t remember. Obviously there’s more than a little bit running
through your head at that moment...

[TV orNotTV] Dave Foley (was: So long, Fred Willard)

2020-05-16 Thread Ben Scripps
Just starting a new thread; I didn’t want to hijack Fred’s…

The night after I saw Fred, I had tickets to see Tig Notaro, followed by a show
called “The Set List”. Paul Provenza would come out and introduce a series of
standups one at a time, and each would be given a series of goofball topics on
which they had to ad-lib a standup set.

In line outside the State Theater, waiting in zero degree weather for whatever
the 8pm show was to finish so they could let us in, a small group of people
walked past us loudly saying something (in jest) about how they were much
better than us because they didn’t have to wait outside in the cold. It was
Dave Foley and Tim Meadows (both had performed at the festival that year), and
a couple of other people. Both comics seemed…less than “fully ebriated.” We
all had a good chuckle as they continued on their way.

Inside the theater, Provenza started the show, brought out two or three comics,
and then came back out and said we had a special guest who would be performing.
Out comes Dave. He did a little rambling comedy for a minute, and then they
flashed a topic on the screen. Dave tried his best on whatever the topic was,
but between the difficulty of ad-libbing standup and his level of sobriety, he
just rambled for another minute. Then he turned back to the screen, and the
next topic appeared: “Door-to-Door Skinny Dipping”. This alone got a good
laugh from the audience, particularly when Dave just stood there for a few long
seconds with his back to us staring at the screen. Then the mic just fell out
of his hand as he continued to try to process this topic. Another big laugh.
He slowly turned back to the audience for another big laugh, and just as it was
starting to die down, a female voice at the back of the theater shouted out
“Take off your pants!” Big laugh.

And Dave just shrugged his shoulders and started unfastening his belt. More
big laughs. Down came his pants. The group of women at the back were now
whooping and encouraging him to keep going. He picked up the mic and said “You
know I’m Canadian; you know I’ll do it.” They kept whooping. So Dave shrugged
his shoulders again, down went the shorts, and out came his…Canuck.

Huge laughs. He eventually put his pants back on, Provenza came out to pull
him off the stage, and the show went on.

Afterward, the closing event at the festival was in a performance space in the
bookstore next to the theater; all of the comics from the week would gather for
a freeform panel discussion that usually ran for a couple of hours. As I’m
sitting there, Tim Meadows arrives, and Michael Moore who was moderating
explains that Dave was supposed to have arrived with Tim, but he
was…unavailable. Turns out he was having a chat with the local police, who
were entertaining the notion of running him in on indecency charges.
Fortunately, they never did; he eventually showed up for the last portion of
the panel, still just as plastered as he’d been on stage.

But whenever I see “Kids” or “NewsRadio” or see him pop up in something, that’s
all I’ll ever be able to see anymore.

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to see Fred in person when he was the
guest of honor at the Traverse City Winter Comedy Arts** festival. (He was
supposed to have been interviewed by Jeff Garlin, but when he couldn’t make it,
co-founder Michael Moore stepped in to host.) Fred was a helluva funny guy,
and judging solely by the reaction in the room when he just casually mentioned
“Fernwood 2 Night”, it’s a wonder it’s never made it to an official release.

**I’ve got another story about this festival, but I’ll save it for the next
time someone mentions Dave Foley.

This needs to be in big flashing neon letters at the audition. Going in, I
thought I’d have a natural advantage, what with being a technical director and
being used to timing things down to a 30th of a second on a regular basis, but
there just aren’t enough words to describe how tough buzzing at the right

We ran a promo for “Evil” tonight where it appeared briefly; that was local, so
it’s on the promos they feed to stations on the daily piping.

They typically send a PR email when there’s some big thing they’re hyping, but
I haven’t seen anything for this, so whatever the purpose, it’s pretty clear
they’re keeping it low-key. For now. If they’re starting this early though,
I’d imagine once we get closer to P-Stew’s "Get Off My Lawn” in January, the
hype machine will shift into hyperspeed.

(Sorry if I triggered any Trek fans by not calling it “warp speed”.)

Just to clarify our reputation, we’re not Alpena. Alpena used to have the
dubious distinction of being the smallest television market in the country, and
they do have a CBS affiliate, WBKB, known by every broadcaster in the state of
Michigan as “We Barely Know Broadcasting”. (I first heard that joke when I was
in *high school*, just starting to learn about television.) With the exception
of Alpena, we’re everything north of Mt. Pleasant (fire up Chips!) and the
eastern third of the U.P., roughly 35 counties’ worth of coverage area. Made
for some long days back when I was a photog and had to drive that stupid live
truck around.

Back to the original question, we (WWTV/WFQX) did a repack switchover last
Friday (channel 21, with a PSIP of channel 45, simulcasting channel 32—try
explaining that to a confused viewer). We had some delays over the summer with
coordinating tower crews and good weather, but we fortunately weren’t off the

ISTR there’s at least one affiliate somewhere out west that airs Colbert half
an hour off the normal schedule. Stations used to “tape and turn” (that is,
start recording the show, then air the front half while the back half is still
recording), but they might have set it up now where there’s a separate
half-hour offset feed on which Colbert starts at :05 past the hour instead of
:35. CBS Satellite Control in NYC controls all of the affiliate satellite
receivers**, and it wouldn’t be the first time they had affiliates tuned to the
wrong feed. My guess is that they had PacNet stations accidentally set up on
this offset feed and happened to switch everyone back to the “correct” feed
just as the show open was starting. (It’s also very possible that the live
“Celebrity Big Bother” had something to do with it; they’ve got a lot of hoops
to jump through when there’s a live show in prime.)

**Based on my phone calls to them over the years, I believe they may also
control a couple of the thickest New York accents in the world.

Here in Northern Michigan (well and truly in the red zone on that map), Fox
moved us to the Washington game during the delay, then switched back once
things picked back up in Denver. We got DAL-DEN all the way through to the
end, with “The Orville” starting around 8:51 or so (and running in its
entirety). The 9pm “Family Guy” rerun was dropped, and the 9:30 “Simpsons” ran

CBS and Fox both do it when necessary. The agreements between the NFL and the
networks require local games to be aired in their local markets in their
entirety, even if it means cutting away from a “Heidi” game to do so. It’s
also why if a local game is a blowout in the third quarter, most of the country
gets switched to a better game while the local markets still have to watch the
Lions—er, stay with the bad game.

A bit of a myopic answer, as I can only really speak to CBS, and even then only
in the eastern time zone, but the rule of thumb for 11pm shows is that we get a
35-minute hole to fill between the end of whatever (Thursday football,
political convention, whatever) and the start of Colbert. CBS is usually
generous about rounding up to the next minute--tonight’s convention coverage
ended, IIRC, sixteen seconds past the minute; they rounded up and stations
ended up with a 35:44 hole for local news, much to the joy of newscast
producers east of the Mississippi. But not always; for example, an overage of
under a minute, which we usually only see on awards shows or “Survivor” reunion
shows, sometimes has to be eaten by the station’s newscast, much to the chagrin
of those same producers.

But on the weekends, if there’s an overrun that ends before 6:30pm, the network
newscast still starts at 6:30; some stations will run an abbreviated local
newscast and go to the network news at 6:30, while others will preempt and run
their full newscast, either joining the network when the local show is done, or
adding material to preempt it entirely. If the sports runs past 6:30, then
network just starts their newscast at the end of sports, and ends on time.

Ken Jennings wrote briefly about this in his first book, “Brainiac”:

“I’d forgotten this tidbit from the contestant orientation: all ‘Jeopardy!’
contestants are responsible for paying their own way out to California,

I don’t know if they can see this or if it’s only visible to Sajak, but here’s

One also assumes whomever made their cue cards is an expert in neither

Re: [TV orNotTV] Quickie Review: Scorpion

2014-10-04 Thread Ben Scripps
Most CBS affiliates have multiple (typically at least three) satellite IRD's
which feed into a small routing switcher controlled by CBS Satellite Operations
in New York. They keep primary control for localizing feeds for affiliates
(i.e. NFL Sundays or regionalized commercials during prime time) and have
control over what feed each affiliate is receiving; the weekly e-mails we
receive with procedures and whatnot always contain a reminder to call air
control immediately if we have to switch to a secondary or tertiary feed of the
network for some reason so that they can retune the IRD remotely to get us on
the correct regional feed.

Not having seen it directly, I'd guess that since it happened at the 30 minute
mark of Scorpion, whatever station PGage was watching was maybe running 30
minutes off the clock (i.e. prime started at 8:30 local time instead of 8:00)
while the rest of the network was on time, and CBS sent a trigger to switch
that affiliate back to the normal network thinking they were out of prime at
that point and into local programming. Just a guess...

land line) feed to use, and when to make such a switch. It's basic programing

It continues with the opener for the episode, goes to commercial, and then

breaking for commercial, it seems to have rejoined at the point where
 Scorpion returned from commercial.

Over the many years of participating in this list I think have learned that
things like this happen because someone punched the wrong button in some kind
of switching station or something (or maybe it was just a computer glitch)
and the start of NCIS:LA was selected instead of the next segment of
Scorpion. But I have a couple of questions. One, why would Scorpion have cut
out prior to going to its commercial? Does that suggest that someone not only
punched the wrong button, but punched it too soon? Two - did this happen
nation wide, just in the Pacific Time zone, or maybe just in the San
Francisco area? Or could the mistake have been with my cable provider
 (Comcast)?

The mom looked a little different this week but I could not put my finger on

can do is tell you what it’s like here in small-market world. Fibre isn’t
everywhere yet, though it’s getting there. For us, we still get all
programming via satellite. The difference now is that it’s almost exclusively
file-based rather than video. The days of any yahoo with a C-band dish in his
backyard being able to watch the 1600ET feed of “Entertainment Tonight” are
well and truly gone; PitchBlue handles content distribution, both for
programming and national advertising. Their box downloads the video file,
transcodes it into MPEG4, and hands it off to our playback system along with a
cue sheet to segment it for local insertion. No tapes, no generation loss,
pure digital from start to finish, but it all still comes down over satellite.

As far as actual live content (i.e. sporting events, etc), that’s definitely
all still satellite.

Me, I’m still trying to get over the fact that satellite for local news

I happened to be watching the CBS Evening News at 7:00 Monday, which is
(usually) the rebroadcast of the newscast that was done live at 6:30. (All

announce Williams' death. It makes sense for stations that showed the
newscast at 6:30, but it's odd to have the newscast interrupted for breaking
news, and then be rejoined in progress.

We air the 6:30 edition here; Pelley didn't report anything on the story until
the very last moment in the show, when there was just enough time to basically
say We've got breaking news--Robin Williams has died. Good night. (It
wasn't really that abrupt, but you get the idea.) My guess is that, had word
come down even three minutes earlier, Pelley would have skipped the fluff PKG
at the end of the show, done more coverage on Williams, and there wouldn't have
been a special report.

As for special reports during the 7:00 show--they do that occasionally, and
it's always as awkward as it sounds. I can't say as I've ever seen them do it
during the 6:30 show.

I seem to remember Adam Carolla having a show in the Post-Daily Show
Timeslot prior to Colbert. I remember it being some weird call-in show but
I struggle to remember what the point of the show was.

Too Late with Adam Carolla, a call-in talk show notable for an episode
in which a ridiculously inebriated Steve-O (of Jackass fame) tackled
Carolla and smashed a glass coffee table. The Wikipedia says it started
at 11:30 in August 2005, but was pushed back to midnight when it failed to
find an audience, and was finally cancelled in November.

Given the amount of automation present in master control rooms these days, it

The Johnny Carson estate posted another full episode tonight, which first
aired on this day 25 years ago. Yes the monologue is good, yes I laughed
loudly at the desk bit, yes Jimmy Stewart blew the roof off the place when he
revealed his New Year's resolution (talk slower), yes Bob Saget was
quick-witted and odd, but the musical act is what has me preoccupied this
evening. His name was Preston Smith, and he had a song I hesitate to call a
hit on the soundtrack for the Tom Cruise movie Cocktail. And I've been
cracking myself up all night at the thought of what he chose to do on what
was apparently his national TV debut. Specifically, he performed his own
cowbell during the song. That is to say he held a guitar, but by the time the
chorus hit, he let it hang off his shoulder so he could bang the cowbell to
his immediate right. And he did so with such fervor that he just screamed
dig me and my awesome cowbell skills! to the world. Maybe it doesn't seem
amusing to you, and maybe I'm just in a goofy mood, or maybe I just want to
take any attention away from Jimmy Fallon, but Mr. Smith decided what would
win over the American people was if he played cowbell during his song. The
cowbell, as we all know, is a complex musical instrument requiring seconds to
master. This predates the more cowbell SNL sketch by at least a decade, and
the reality of this guy thinking the cowbell made him look -- I don't know --
sexy maybe? is just amazingly funny to me. Anyway, this episode is a
must-watch for anyone who likes laughter.

 http://youtu.be/CvKYN4kTNWg

To be fair, he's also got a drum and cymbal he's hitting as well. But I'm all
in favor of taking attention away from Jimmy Fallon. (Hell, I'm in favor of
NBC skipping Fallon and just airing repeats from the Carson estate.)

In seasons prior, CBS has used the production company logos to separate program

reason, they've bumped the production company logos to after credits starting

I'm still not sure what CBS's schedule is supposed to be tonight. By my
clock, the game ended at 7:57 ET. There was an on-screen Eye-lert saying
that Survivor would start at 8:38 ET. 60 went to break at 34 or 35 past
and, after a lengthy commercial break punctuated by the usual roundup of
NFL scores, the special report for POTUS started at 38 past with Scott
Pelley saying that Survivor would resume where it left off, even though
 it hadn't started yet.

I saw the intro to 60 Minutes. They said it was a special short edition
with only 2 stories: one on Newtown and one on raising the Costa Concordia.

CBS has the ability to run many separate net feeds out of New York--I'm not
positive of the number, but during training on a new switcher many years
ago, I believe our trainer (who'd trained directors at CBS) had it at 27
individual network feeds that could be generated). So for an early
regional game that ended earlier than the Pittsburgh/Dallas game, they
almost certainly would have dumped out of NFL coverage ASAP to get to the
Survivor finale as close to on-time as possible (which meant some viewers
were already seeing Survivor when Pelley cut in, while others were still
in 60 Minutes).

Which means if you're watching Survivor in the east, you may want to
start avoiding social media around 10:30 or so...

I have just two words in response: Claire Huxtable. Although I suppose you

1986's short-lived Melba certainly would qualify as having a black

it's been a couple years since I went looking), neither the NHL nor
NBA have anything similar. You're pretty much on your own. When I

the vector version of their logo. But that takes work, and most local
