Se sua partição de swap está em /etc/sda5, ative a swap com o comando:
sudo swapon /dev/sda5
Para escrever no arquivo /etc/fstab e montar a swap no boot, veja o uuid da
partição swap assim:
ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/
E veja qual o uuid que aponta para /dev/sda5

Use o comando 'free' (ou 'free -m' para ver os valores em MB), e ele vai
mostrar quanto você tem de memória e de swap. Provavelmente ele já está
usando essa swap que você criou, e vai mostrar os aproximadamente 2048MB
como primeiro valor na linha que indica a swap.

Pessoal, como não deu pra instalar o UBUNTU no meu Laptop, acabei deletando
as partições pelo Partition Magic pelo windows.. só que ele nao abre mais..
como posso reescrever a MBR e tirar o Grub?

O gmail lança as novidades primeiro em inglês (EUA) e depois para as outras
línguas. A última versão tem mais opções para os marcadores e está mais
pesada...

Foi só incremendar o gedit com plugins do pacote gedit-plugins que ficou
belezinha! Até com um terminal na parte inferior e identação inteligente.
