Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Plastic Box Which Plays Noises
Just put R1 on my Wandboard. Web interface for WLAN-configuration didn't seem to do what it needed to do (yes, I did use the Save and reboot-button) but I used Putty to ssh in and checked if the settings were correctly applied. ESSID WPA-PSK key were present, so I did what you describe in the very first post (ifdown + ifup) and WLAN is working now. Had to google around a bit to find how to mount my Windows share to actually get some music into the server, but now it's happily scanning, Squeezelite is visible on my network and sees both LMS servers, my other players also see the Wandboard server. So far so good :) All in all a painless installation procedure, well within reach of this Linux almost illiterate ;) If you need localisation to Dutch or French, I volunteer. bakker_be's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98190 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Plastic Box Which Plays Noises
Take your time. The way this thing is running it doesn't need to be rebooted :) I've turned it into a copy of my Windows 2008 R2 server, installing the Spicefly Sugarcube plugin, pointing it at the MusicIP server I've got running there, switched all players to it, and they're all running perfectly, synced and all. When I have some more time this weekend it'll get hooked up to the stereo and I'll try to install the MusicIP server from the tarball still available at Amplifind. If that works I'll turn it into a totally self-contained server by transferring all music to some kind of external USB disk, which will give me the opportunity to finally upgrade my server to Windows Server 2012, add a HP SAS expander and another 9 TB to the current 17 TB. The anticipation is killing me :) bakker_be's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98190 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Sorry if this is a newbie question (I admit I am, concerning linux, only experience is several versions of Ubuntu, all GUI stuff) but I'm trying to achieve what JackOfAll described in the first post of the original thread, getting the Squeezeserver cache onto a USB stick. I've already managed to get it formatted as ext4, mounted as /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache, my music share (cifs) is mounted also. If you don't want to rescan it is advisable to copy the contents of the cache first and copy back to the stick once it's mounted, yes? I'll have a look at WInSCP, that sounds great for simplifying the copying process. CW You have indeed oversimplified it, in that there are files inside that directory that are needed for LMS to even start up, that's before any scanning has ever taken place. My first tentative at running LMS was without a stick and I found an 11hr scantime to be a bit excessive. That's why I tried to replicate what JackOfAll hinted at in his first post on the old thread. I didn't even bother to do a ls in that directory, figuring that, since you can simply delete the cache files on Windows and LMS recreates them, it would do the same on Fedora. WRONG ... ;) In short: even for a brand new installation you must first make the copy and put it back in place before starting LMS. bakker_be's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Maybe the overall physical size of the library is a factor too? I've got around 1.5 TB of music, it's all quite extensively tagged and cover art is as large as I can find. MusicIP (only mixable status) SmartMix are activated as well. I don't say that there cannot be anything wrong with my scanning process, I'd even say there is, as the Wandboard LMS sees around 4000 less tracks than my Windows box ... Even so, the difference in going from 11hrs to 2 hours is (for me at least) irrefutable. bakker_be's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Hi there, I'm still on R3, and since updating Squeezelite to the latest version I'm noticing some strange behaviour. I've got a Squeezeplay-computer in my kitchen that's synced with the Wandboard, which is connected to my stereo by HDMI. They're both set to power on/of together and resume playing. If I start the player in my kitchen without switching on the amp connected to the wandboard I can't get the music to play correctly: it plays for around 30 seconds, tries to rebuffer, flashes a message on the screen that rebuffering failed and starts over. Is this behaviour normal, have I discovered a bug or should I first upgrade to R4 and try again ... bakker_be's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

On a different subject: I tried the upsampling, but to me it's not really a success. It's probably some user error, so I'll explain the situation so somebody can point me in the right direction ;) - Wandboard is connected through HDMI to my Marantz Receiver - ALSA Params are empty, except for an ending 0 - Upsampling checkbox is ticked, nothing entered into the textbox I can see upsampling works, as my Marantz indicates a 176.4 sampling rate, but the sound is really thin and distant compared to the default ... As a sidenote: I seem to find that the soundquality of the wandboard connected through HDMI SBT connected analog SBT connected through SPDIF in my system. However with F19 I'm not at all clear as that uses a much older kernel, which probably does not include the LIRC stuff, and would likely require some effort. As far as Johns hardware goes, I believe he is making GPIO pins available on the board, but not sure if this will include the pins used as standard for LIRC, although I think this can be configured to use other pins, so that is not likely an insurmountable problem. Be warned, however - even if the right pins are available and the LIRC code in place, it still takes quite a bit of effort to set up, as you need to program LIRC for the particular remote you want to use, which can be fiddly, and then define the actions of the buttons. If you want a cheap solution and have the patience, this might be a good option. Otherwise stick to FLIRC - it so much simpler :D (and cost less than a cheap dinner out). There hasn't been a week gone by where I don't get asked, are you (or can you) support this ARM hardware. We support the Wandboard. Yes, it's not the only imx6 game in town. If you can get CS stuff running on another imx6 device, good for you! Will it work out of the box? I don't know, I haven't tried it. Same goes with possibly adding support for AllWinner. It'll be on that basis, that we can say with certainty that it works on this specific device. I can't say about some other device that I don't own. People need to be aware, that stuff doesn't just work out of the box. There are always some foibles that need to be dealt with. Whether it's the random generation of ethernet MAC address, every boot, on these Cubieboard devices or something else. Right now, I'm looking at what needs to happen with the IR driver (the Cubietruck has an IR receiver on board) to make it support a Squeezebox remote on initial boot. My expectation, at first look at how the driver is implemented, was great, can load a keymap from rc.local. Then on closer examination, it appears not to use the usual run-time mechanism, need to edit a header file with the mapping and re-compile the module. The point is this, that while it's possible to make anything work on anything, given time and resource, things don't just work. I'm never going to say, this works on that, unless I have actually done it myself. It's the whole reason I am sitting on my hands over supporting the BBB. Do I know CSOS F20 works on the BBWhite? Hell, yes! Should there be any issues... Well, on paper, a faster CPU and double the RAM. Why should that cause an issue, right? Until I have a BBB in my hands.. And the frustrating thing for me, I look at the TP Cape thread this morning... Control the ES9018 via I2C from the driver. That's new, isn't it?. But I was here 6 months ago, with a TP Buffalo connected to a Wandboard via I2S and controlling it via ALSA mixer controls which then communicate with the DAC via I2C. LOL. I am massively frustrated that we appear to be going backwards, while others are going forwards. Hi, I believe that while you, Triode, John and any others I'm not aware of are massively talented at doing what you do, you just don't have the kind of technically able community here that you do the other forum, blocking you from going forward by having to hold people like me (relative Linux newbies) by the hand. Example in case: this morning for some obscure reason LMS doesn't start anymore. I did some searching, couldn't find anything, am now reimaging my SD card. If I'd not been aware you're going through all kinds of stuff at the moment with the repo, I'd have been here to ask support, making you loose valuable time, and I guess I'm far from the only one. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS F19 Release 1
Just a quick heads-up maybe, concerning the R7 image. I've finally had some time to listen to some music since re-imaging earlier this week, and it seems to me that the choice for HDMI doesn't automatically disable MMAP anymore. At least I can't remember specifically enabling it after switching from the SGTL5000, but after some time I got garbled sound. Restarting squeezelite solved it for some time, but it always came back. Searching the CSOS homepage led me to MMAP, deactivated it, no more worries. I don't know how many use the R7 image with HDMI output for sound, but it's worth looking into IMO. Another thing I found: the character to specify an administrative CIFS-share has changed to the Microsoft default $. On the previous installation (R???) I had to provide *. Makes it easier for people coming from Windows (as I do), but I'd backed up my fstab, so it errored out on that line of course :p Main System: Touch; Marantz SR-5004; TMA Premium 905; TMA Premium 901; BK Monolith+ FF; HDI Dune Smart D1; Pioneer PDP-LX5090H iPad 32GB Wifi + Squeezepad (local playback activated) Acer Iconia Tab A700 + Squeezeplayer Wandboard Duallite + CSOS, integrated LMS activated bakker_be's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=99395 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I2S is not plug and play. If you don't know the what and why, you're setting yourself up for a whole lot of pain. IMHO, (and this is directed at you specifically), you should head where you were heading. Get that Curryman DAC, (which IIRC correctly is ES9023 with async clock and buffer output), get it working with a USB to I2S interface. Put it in a nice case. Use at least a linear reg power supply. At some point later on, down the road, you can look at feeding it directly with I2S. Maybe put a TP teleporter sender in the WB plastic case, add a receiver to your standalone DAC, link them with a hdmi cable. There are bodies buried all over the place. With the BeagleboneBlack. (Which is fresh in my mind as it is sitting in front of me right now.) Easy 2.54mm headers, but the BBB has a crap standard clock and can only do 48k multiples. The Cubietruck requires SMT soldering. The WB requires SMT soldering. I'm going to draw the line on the software side. Is the software able to provide an I2S output. 16, 24, and 32 bit I2S output. Tick. Line in the sand. Zero support from that point onwards. You want to interface with this DAC. Good luck with that. ;) I could rattle off a list of DAC chips I've already interfaced via I2S to one of these ARM devices. Since we just touched on the Curryman DAC, I could start telling you that I've used ES9023 in async with external osc, and sync, 4 wire with MCLK from board, but there is absolutely zero chance of me documenting it. I'm hopeful that there will be a couple of people, with the software side of things sorted, who have the knowledge and experience, to provide a HOWTO with this specific DAC board and ARM board. Something that people with lesser experience can follow and end up with a working solution. But again, not going to be me. My priority is going to be the CS hardware as soon as the F20 images are out there. Not taken personally at all, please note I stressed the theoretical part ;) I'm not planning on doing any difficult soldering, it's been more than 20 years since I touched a soldering iron, and that was easy stuff: passive loudspeaker cross-overs. I think combining the two parts I mentioned elsewhere will be quite challenging enough for my skills, and even that is still a far-off project as the PSU-part is not clear at all to me, but that's better discussed in it's own thread. You should have the log files being compressed on a daily basis and only 7 (ie. a weeks worth) being kept at any time. Are you saying you grew a 2GB log file in a day? I just checked the files: yes indeed, a 2GB log in 1 day, still on R7 though, despite my best intentions to migrate to R8.
