I would suggest that you try to repair your installation of OOo.
Without even an error message its hard to determine the exact cause of
your problem.
To repair your installation simply double click on your setup file
(the one you used when installing OOo) and select repair from the the

I will guess. Did you download the French version or an English version.
You can check in Tools Options Language settings. You might also
check the language of whatever characters you are using by highlighting
some text and right clicking and selecting Character.
