Hi,

Pad [1] contains the procedure to replace the host with same FQDN
where existing host OS has to be re-installed.

Pointing the other HV's to their own storage may make sense for
multiple instances of the hosted_engine, however it's nice that the
gluster volumes are replicated and that one VM can be relaunched when
a HV error is detected. It's also consuming less resources.

What's the procedure to replace the original VM?

Redeployed both additional hosts with hosted -> deploy set to on as per the
image you attached to Logans thread, that has solved my 'immovable' hosted
engine problem.

Thanks

I have added a couple of additional hosts to the cluster through the
web0ui , but I can't update the current 'self hosting' host as the
 hosted-engine refuses to migrate.

 HostedEngine:

- Cannot migrate VM. There is no host that satisfies current
scheduling constraints. See below for details:
- The host 3 did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a
Hosted Engine host..
- The host 2 did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a

So I tried to enable 'HA Reservation', but I can't because host '1'
can't be put into maintenance mode because HE can't migrate

[ovirt-users] Clones from snapshots on Cinder RBD problem

2016-09-19 Thread Andrew Richards
Hello all,

I already opened bug on
this, but I thought I'd post to the list to see if anyone has seen this. I've
got oVirt 4.0.3 using a Cinder external provider for Ceph (Cinder version is
7.0.1 from RDO Liberty, Ceph is Jewel 10.2.2) to get access to RBD images. I am
able to boot VMs from these RBD images, create snapshots of them, both live and
when the VM is offline, but when I try to clone a new VM from those snapshots,
the task never completes and I see errors like these
 in /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log:

> ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.AddVmFromSnapshotCommand] (default task-93)
> [50af631a] Command 'org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.AddVmFromSnapshotCommand'
> failed: null
>
> ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.AddVmFromSnapshotCommand] (default task-93)
> [50af631a] Exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

...which is then followed repeatedly by:

> ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.AddVmFromSnapshotCommand]
> (DefaultQuartzScheduler8) [50af631a] Ending command
> 'org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.AddVmFromSnapshotCommand' with failure.

The only way I've been able to back out of this state is to use engine-cleanup
and then restore from a backup. No amount of stopping and restarting
ovirt-engine.service seemed to get the task to fail completely so that it could
be cleaned up.

Is anyone successfully using Cinder snapshots? Or is this a known issue for
which I have not yet found a bug report? My review of the trace under that
java.lang.NullPointerException did not lead me anywhere, but I might not know
what I'm looking for there.

Patch https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/c/63001/ should also address your issue.

In general with 4.0 I'd strongly suggest to deploy additional hosted-engine
hosts directly from the engine web admin instead of using
hosted-engine-setup also there.

[ovirt-users] Peculiar Problem in migrating storage from one to another domain

2016-09-19 Thread Anantha Raghava

Hi,

I had created a Windows VM accidentally with storage in EXPORT_DOMAIN
rather than using a specified MASTER_STORAGE Domain built on iSCSI
storage. Realising the mistake, I moved the VM's disk from EXPORT_DOMAIN
to MASTER_STORAGE domain. The engine reported that disk moved
successfully. When I attempted to start the VM, I am getting error
"Cannot start VM, related operation is in progress". This error has
persisted over last 24 Hours!!. I attempted to remove the disk from VM,
same error appears. When I try to delete disk from MASTER_STORAGE
Domain, same error appears.

What could have gone wrong in this disk movement?

I am using oVirt 4.0.2 on CentOS 7 and 2 hosts in the cluster are also
with CentOS 7 base OS on which the Hypervisor is installed.

[ovirt-users] Can't import export domain

2016-09-19 Thread Maton, Brett
I basically scrubbed my 'old' cluster after a number of failures trying to
convert a physical engine to a self hosted engine, anyway

I'm now trying to import the 'old' export domain but I'm getting this

[ovirt-users] Self Hosted Engine - Migrate to another host

2016-09-19 Thread Maton, Brett
Hi,

I deployed a new cluster following this guide
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/how-to/hosted-engine/#fresh-install

Which are after a few failed attempts, finally seems to be up and running.

I have added a couple of additional hosts to the cluster through the
web0ui , but I can't update the current 'self hosting' host as the
hosted-engine refuses to migrate.

HostedEngine:

   - Cannot migrate VM. There is no host that satisfies current scheduling
   constraints. See below for details:
   - The host 3 did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a
   Hosted Engine host..
   - The host 2 did not satisfy internal filter HA because it is not a
   Hosted Engine host..
   - The host 1 did not satisfy internal filter Migration because it
   currently hosts the VM..

I trawled google for awhile and found this post
https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg34847.html

So I tried to enable 'HA Reservation', but I can't because host '1' can't
be put into maintenance mode because HE can't migrate

Re: [ovirt-users] can't import vm from KVM host

2016-09-19 Thread Nelson Lameiras
Well I think I have a rather "classical" environment :

This is the test setup I created (from scratch) in order to simulate future
migrations (which will be used to migrate our hundreds of vm in production)

On one side, I have a x86_64 centos7.2+KVM hosting one VM with 2 iscsi disks :
1 LVM block device /dev/mapper/vg_01-lv_sys, using virtio
1 block device /dev/sdc, using virtio

on the other side, I have a x86_64 centos 7.2 oVirt cluster (2 hosts, same
hardware as KVM hosts) installed with 4.0.3 oVirt (hosts and engine) fully
upgraded to 4.0.4RC1 (hosts and engine)
Target would be oVirt iscsi Data Domain disk (which is irrelevant because the
problem I'm describing arises before selecting oVirt target)

I'm using the GUI to test the native import capabilities of oVirt "Import VM"
When selecting KVM import, putting correct URL data (using either tcp or ssh
transport), I get a list of VM machines running in the KVM cluster (for this
exemple, only the one VM described above), but the disk count is always 0.
Which makes it impossible to import the VM.

I should add that I made the same VM import using "local hard drives" (ie.
local raw file) and it works as expected, I can see one or multiple disks and
import them easily to oVirt. The problem seems to manifest itself only when
importing disks using block devices directly.

Do you need more information from me, or make more tests?

thanks a lot,
nelson

Sorry but I don't understand the question.

With 'copy the image of my ovirt-engine from local-storage to glusterfs' do
you mean that you have your engine on a physical and you want to migrate it
to an hosted-engine (the engine runs on a VM hosted by one of the host that
it's managing) env using gluster FS for your shared storage?

If so, you can follow this:
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/engine/migrate-to-hosted-engine/

Moving an existing hosted-engine env from one storage kind (but local
storage has never been an allowed option) to another is currently not
supported instead. Please see:

How you configured the bond on your hypervisor?
Seems like Vdsm doesn't like your changes, perhaps it cannot just identify the
interface configuration

Edward, do you have any recommendations about this flow?

Hi Maxence,

It seems much more likely that the problem is on the hypervisor side.

How did you configure the bond? With initscripts, with NetworkManager
directly, or indirectly through Cockpit?

What files are in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts on the hypervisor? An
sosreport would be useful here, or at least /var/log/vdsm/supervdsm.log

Thanks,
Ondra

Ouch! Didn't see it, my bad :/
I found more easily the new upload image function than the old feature

Thanks a lot!

Re: [ovirt-users] Import Glance images in oVirt 4.0

2016-09-19 Thread Fred Rolland
Hi,

Nothing has changed in this area in 4.0.
The "ovirt-image-repository" should be there.
Just make sure you select "System" on the left tree and then the "Storage"
tab, as this storage domain is not attached to a specific Data Center.

Note there is also a new feature in 4.0 : Image Upload. (see [1])

Regards,
Freddy

What would be the simplest choice?

With Virtual Machine Manager you can edit-connection details and create
bridges on the host that you can connect to.

Exact.

I usually use an isolated network, that does not connect to the outside
world and is limited to the host. If I need it to access the outside
world, I can either connect one of the nics to the bridge created on the
host or just create another vnic that uses nat/macvtap.

I get that.

Note that VMM is mainly focused on simple VM connectivity, using it for
nested virtualization is not simple and will require from you additional
effort.

OK.

Would you recommend a better suited solution for nested virtualization?

Hi Michael,

you have at least 1 cluster with 3.5 or lower compatibility version. You
need to upgrade all your clusters to 3.6 version before upgrading to 4.0.

[ovirt-users] Can't add logical network

2016-09-19 Thread Maxence Sartiaux
Hello,

On a clean install ovirt 4.0.3-1, i've configured my bond on my
hypervisor, created a new network on the engine and now i try to assign
the logical network to my bond in the host network settings.

When i save the configuration, the engine throw me an error and the
following event

VDSM hypervisor1 command failed: [Errno 2] No such file or directory:
u'/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-lan'

if i "touch" the file manually i don't have this error but my file only
contain "MTU=1500" nothing more.

Engine bug or i miss something ?

Thank you.

[ovirt-users] Import Glance images in oVirt 4.0

2016-09-19 Thread Davide Ferrari
Hello

all the guides/helps/howto I can find about importing OpenStack Glance's
iamges into ovirt relies on 3.x version and on the "ovirt-image-repository"
present as a storage domain. But in 4.0 I can only see it as an expternal
provider and there's no way to add it a storage domain (I can only add
"Data" domains). So, how can I import existing images into my oVirt 4.0
installation?

Thanks

I'm suspect the host-id is out of sync in the engine now. changing the
host-id locally isn't supported. The engine is the only source of id
assignment.

Re: [ovirt-users] Changing Hosted Engine destEmail

2016-09-19 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi,

notification settings are unfortunately something we moved to shared
storage without proper tooling for it being ready. The default
configuration (if you used it) sends the email to root@localhost and
you can use the standard linux configuration to forward it elsewhere:

For example see this article (first random link from google that
contains all the steps):
http://blog.bobbyallen.me/2013/02/03/how-to-redirect-local-root-mail-to-an-external-email-address-on-linux/

This is generally good idea anyway.

Best regards

Martin Sivak

I think Edward means the problem when there is no display (and
migration) network set for a cluster in Engine. This may happen due to
a former bug in Engine db scripts. Vdsm apparently falls back on
ovirtmgmt in most cases so the problem is typically unnoticed. But when
you look for displayNetwork explicitly in Vdsm, it's not there.

The bug may affect 4.0 installations until a db upgrade fix is created
and backported.
