Re: [videoblogging] iTunes feed is empty

Hi Mike,

Check your feed at http://feedvalidator.org.

Here's what came up for the following feed:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MoonEchoes

http://tinyurl.com/2n7ljl

Try fixing the items outlined in yellow and I believe your videos should
show in iTunes. Also make sure it's setup correctly for iTunes in
Feedburner.

Good luck. Hope this works.

I just discovered that eBay has a wealth of professional-looking puppets for
sale cheap! Many of them are religiously-themed (in fact, you will get the
best results if you search for 'ministry puppets') but they could VERY
easily be modified for other purposes. Making one might be fun, but I can
make vids faster if I don't have to.

the side car is jumpsociety.com, a film club for local filmmakers. At
this point we're just trying to develop our skills and find a niche on
the internet while building up our local film community.

Most of our films are under a Creative Commons license and we've been
posting our work to YouTube (http://youtube.com/AlaskaRobotics) and
have a Democracy feed... or is that Miro? I'm not so much a fan of
 the new name.

I've also been teaching a class at the Yaakoosge Alternative High
School on digital video and have been encouraging the students to
create video journals using YouTube heavily as a teaching and
publishing tool. The students have been responding to You Choose
political candidates, making recycling PSAs and are currently working
to finish up some short documentaries. The goal of the class is to
show them how digital video and technology can be used as a medium to
 express themselves.

Aside from making short films I like to play soccer, read comics,
draw, listen to music, eat, sleep, and hunt for adventure.

 All my best,
 Pat Race

Re: [videoblogging] using Apple iTunes logo/graphic on a billboard to promote podcast?

Yes, it is a trademarked logo, so you need permission.

Has anyone tried promoting your iTunes video-podcast with an Apple

Specifically, like on a billboard or on my car (driving around
town). I.e., trying to induce people to goto iTunes Store do a
 search on XXX.

Does this require special permission from Apple. I want to make sure
there aren't any copyright issues (like the Apple graphic). I know
it's not an issue on a website, but the billboard thing sounds
 different.

Re: [videoblogging] Camera Motor Sound

2007-05-07 Thread Daniel Geduld
Easiest way to fix it is to record the sound to a separate source and synch
it later. Just use a clapper, or even a shot of a person clapping, and line
up the sound of the clap with the picture. This is how it was done in films
for years and, despite what some editors claim, it's really easy, especially
in a digital setup when you can see the waveform.

No, not an external microphone, to a separate source entirely. For example,

2007-05-06 Thread Daniel Geduld
Hi. I'm new to this list, so here's a good time to say hi.

Anyway, AFTRA really hates this and they throw a big fit if they find out,
but from what friends have told me, you can work on non-AFTRA projects
uncredited or under a pseudonym to get around these issues. I'd say use with
extreme caution though.

On 5/6/07, Justin Kownacki [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Actually, the one issue that my cast member who's becoming an AFTRA

Which, again, is ludicrous because they'd essentially be fining him
for working on something that isn't generating income in the first
 place...

I'll definitely keep the group posted as information becomes available.

 Cheers.

[videoblogging] Dreamhost vs blip.tv?

2007-04-03 Thread Daniel Foster
New to vlogging and setting up my vlog now. Not certain whether I should go
with an inexpensive high disk-space / bandwidth server (dreamhost) or a host
such as blip.tv.

This will be on my own domain. I¹ve read over blip¹s licensing terms, so
I¹m aware of that. I plan to eventually post numerous videos (more than
100) as I already have lots of content.

I¹m tending toward dreamhost, which seems to give me more control and I
could use their QT streaming capabilities. Would this be a good choice ?
Any other guidance regarding this is much appreciated!

Thanks.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: MyHeavy.com Disregarding Vlogger CC Licenses

2007-01-03 Thread Chris Daniel
http://heavypr.wordpress.com/2006/11/21/online-media-daily-101206/

BROADBAND VIDEO SITE HEAVY.COM WEDNESDAY unveiled its newest channel,
Heavy's Angels,
featuring clips submitted by 20 female video creators. The 20 selected
angels were among hundreds of applicants who submitted original videos to
their MyHeavy.com profiles this summer. Each week, the vloggers will upload
new clips, and those that draw the most views per month will win
prizes–including a Honda Civic, a Mini Cooper, and a Scion TC.

So.. where do they get the money for all the nice prizes..?

Re: [videoblogging] fireant reporting in feedburner

2006-02-24 Thread Daniel Hehmann

I've got a question about FireAnt, so I figured I'd ask it here. Is there any way to view the vids in full screen? I've tried double clicking, alt+enter, seaching for a button, etc. and I've yet to be able to do it. I really like FireAnt but I rarely use it because I like watching vids in full screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Joshua Kinberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: This thread was also posted in our FireAnt user group, so I'm going to paste my response here as well -- Hmmm... I wonder if Feedburner is looking for the wrong FireAnt useragent... we changed it when we changed the name from "FireANT" to "FireAnt". We will need to follow up with the Feedburner guys to check on this Here's the other thing with iTunes... it checks all the feeds each
time you fire up the iTunes application, which may be pretty often if you like listening to music. FireAnt does not check the feeds unless the user tells it to do so. iTunes may also check feeds multiple times per day, thus skewing "subscriber" numbers (those numbers are highly suspect anyhow, so I wouldn't really trust it as a true indication of how many subscribers you really have. I'm not really sure how those numbers are generated) As Jay pointed out, try including a FireAnt subscription button on your site and its likely you will then see more subscribers in FA. FireAnt is a little different than DTV and iTunes in that we really try to keep all your meta-info in tact. This includes the textual information in a blog entry and especially links. Thus, by encouraging your viewers to use FireAnt, its quite likely that you will actually get more traffic back to your site from FireAnt. Re: DTV... I think your feed,
"Motion Graphics Chicago" was included on the front of the DTV Channel Guide for a long time, so that could be why you are seeing more subscribers there as well. To get more promotion through the FireAnt website, try going in and adding tags and ratings to your channel the episodes in it. We need some more help from the community to try to push up content, so it wouldn't hurt to tell other people to vote you up as well if they like your stuff. We are also planning to re-architect the front page of FireAnt.tv pretty soon to make it more dynamic so that it features more content and changes more regularly. This should also help bring more promotion to more vloggers. And speaking of promotion, we could always use your help in the promotion department. You guys know us, and you probably also know that we're fairly modest when it comes to self promoting. We don't really do press releases, and we hardly even promote FireAnt
on the videoblogging mailing list (we see that more as a discussion environment than a promotional one). So, please give us a boost and blog about FireAnt if you can. Your help really goes a long way. -Josh http://FireAnt.tv On 2/24/06, Mason Dixon [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: according to feedburner my podcast: http://feeds.feedburner.com/MotionGraphicsChicago is really popular with iTunes and DTV, but not with fireAnt. feedburner reports that we only have 3 fireANT readers. i just dont see how that can be right. do other people have more fireAnt users showing up? any ideas why that might be? mason www.mgchicago.com www.popvlog.comYahoo! Re: [videoblogging] Four Eyed Media Monsters

2006-02-22 Thread Daniel Hehmann

Personally, I don't see why Four Eyed Monsters wouldn't be considered a vlog. While the central theme may be the film, the focus is clearly on the filmmakers themselves, That is the primary difference between FEM and other film-based vidcasts such as Kite Circuit, or what's going on for Clerks 2 and Superman Returns and so forth. While those all focus on the technical aspects, and giving a behind the scenes look at the creation of a film, FEM focuses on the relationship between two filmmakers and their journey getting their film out there.I also think it's unfair to pass what they're doing off as nothing but promotion for their film either. I have no ambition to watch the trailer for King Kong, because I've already seen the film itself. I've seen FEM the film twice, and I still follow their vlog religiously. The original poster was absolutely right in saying that if anything, the film and the vlog compliment each other, and create something greater than the sum of its parts.
That's the true appeal of the film and vlog in the first place, so I really don't think it matters what you label it. The film takes the best aspects of documentaries, fiction, dramatization, music, and a subjective point of view to create something we haven't seen before. Watching the film, there is no way to pigeonhole it into a specific genre, because it encompasses a little of everything. It's a narrative, based on real people, involving a script and filmed scenes, and shown through the eyes of the filmmakers. One thing I do know, is that if it weren't for their vlog, I wouldn't even know about vlogs in the first place. It's through following theirs that I came upon the vlogs of the people in the group. I didn't go from watching FEM to looking for shows and serials or whatever, I looked for other vlogs. For people to sit here and say that FEM shouldn't be considered a blog is foolish, and is only going to hurt by pushing away people like myself, instead of
gaining from what FEM is doing. -DannyRichard BF [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Old timers on this list are gonna love me bringing this up again. Newbies are probably going to love me even more for disturbing the mainstream media lovefest which seems to have taken over this email list in the past few months. I received some offlist emails about my Four Eyed Monsters post, which I really think should be reposted here, as they had much more information about the project, and offerred an alternate view to my naive opinions. If you emailed me, please CC it here, it will be interesting for others to read. But the question it poses is yet again, what is this list for? The simple answer is to help out new videobloggers. Which again begs the question
ducking what is videoblogging? /ducking In recent months, reading this list you would be fooled into thinking that videblogging means video on the Internet. We have countless "videoblog directories" which simply aggregate RSS enclosures, we have "videoblog aggregators" which simply play video over the Internet, we have "videoblog hosting providers" which simply host video on the Internet, we have "videoblog shows" which are simply amateur TV series hosted on the Internet... the list goes on. Videoblog is a buzzword that most people seem to use to describe anything with video and the Internet. Others, like me, think it is more about the personal and all that it entails. So the gap between these opinions is still, after 18 months, enormous. The point of the recent Four Eyed Monsters discussion seems to have been "how to use the Internet to promote your more traditional film", which
I'd argue has jack to do with this list. On the vlogtheory list, arguably whose main job is to define videoblogging, we've basically given up discussing the definition, because nobody will change their mind about what they think a videoblog is. It's like walking into a party where everyone has their arms crossed and nobody is talking. Michael's Vlog Anarchy video was a great bird flip to definition, but this list is now a perfect example of why videoblogging needs to be defined, otherwise perhaps the list should be renamed from videoblogging@yahoogroups.com to [EMAIL PROTECTED] What do you think? I'm especially interested in the new members' opinions, as they probably haven't had a lot of the citizen media, fuck big media rhetoric we used to go on about here a year ago, but now tend to no longer bother about. [videoblogging] Re: camera suggestions ?

2006-01-21 Thread Chris Daniel
Again, it depends on how you plan to use the camera. If you want to
only use it for videoblogging, you may want to choose a saller/less
expensive camera. However, if you plan on using it for
projects/short films, the DVX is a great choice.

--- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Bill Streeter [EMAIL PROTECTED]
wrote:

This is kind of an issue with me. The DVX 100 has 24p but I find
24p
to be over rated when it comes to getting a film look.

Tell that to George Lucas :)

When people
talk about getting a film look on video they're talking about
getting a film transfered to video look. The best ways to achieve
this
is A) to de-interlace which actually reduces your resolution
because
de-interlacing involves removing or blending in every other
horizontal
line. And B) to make fine adjustments to the gamma curves in your
footage. If you know Photoshop or are a Photographer you'll know
what
I'm talking about. Video tends to have a harsher more evenly
distributed gamma curve and film tapers more in the light and dark
 parts of your image.

You can adjust the gamma curves in camera w/ the DVX.

24p tries to mimic the frame rate of film which is almost
imperceptible if the footage is kept in a video format. And when
you
are capturing 24 frames per second you are capturing less
information.

You're shooting in the same frame rate as film.

than you would capture in 25fps (pal) or 29.97fps (ntsc). I want to
start with the maximum image information posible and then have the
choice to throw out stuff later if I want.

One other reason some people think they need to shoot in 24p is
because they think it helps when they are bumping up to film. It
doesn't. When video is bumped up to film the process works the
same if
you shot 24p or 60i. And I don't care what kind of camera you shot
with or how you shot it, MiniDV footage will never look like you
shot
on 35mm once you've bumped it up to 35mm.

Agreed, I think the DVX footage looks more like 16mm film.

There all kinds of conversion issues you have too before you can
even
 edit the stuff as well.

So it all boils down to this: 24p is an unnecessary gimmick that is
really just a pain in the ass.

Not a big problem if you have a NLE that handles the conversion for
you. Just a matter of clicking on a few buttons.

If you want a more 'filmish' look deinterlace (and a lot of web
level
compression already does this for you) and adjust your gamma
curves if
you can (one nice thing about the DVX 100 is that it can do this
for
 you in camera).

 End of rant.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: camera suggestions ?

2006-01-20 Thread daniel liss
my 2 cents. i shoot video film for a living and so have access to
all manner of shiny stuff. in smaller format DV cameras the 100A is
hard to beat. it basically won over all the old pd-150 holdouts, and
if you want 24P it pretty much set the standard and still seems to be
the best. i've done some interesting projects with it, though have
yet to try the 100B. panasonic is also coming out with the HVX-200
which will essentially add HD to the 100A - for not a huge price
leap. but be forewarned, it'll only record HD to cards and those
cards are still prohibitively expensive.

that said, i'm with bill on this, though. i leave everything behind
and shoot nearly everything on my vlogs with a now-ancient digital
video-enabled still camera. i love the quality in it's low-
techness (and it sets up interesting challenges: but that's a
different story) and find that half the game is that it's always with
me.

But it also depends on what kind of stuff you'll be shooting. For
personal video diary stuff most people find video enabled digital
still cameras adequate. If this is the kind of stuff you plan on doing
the DVX is way over kill. If you are doing more produced kind of stuff
the DVX is great. But it still might be overkill if you are doing web
only stuff. I've been eyeing the Panasonic PV-GS400 as I have read
some really good things about it and it's very well priced. But if I
had something like a daily personal diary video blog I'd be looking at
digi still cameras. I couldn't afford tape for a daily vlog.

right. it's like if you make experimental film/video:  it's helpful (i think) to make your work not as against something (ie "critical cinema") but as *for* something: for your own _expression_/world/people. and what i mean to say is that rather than feeling an encroachment by the "big boys", you can feel it as a moment where we can put out anything we want (which is really not the norm for "the media"), and it instantly occupies the same rung as anything else. so, it's like we're all big. really big.-dl--http://pouringdown.blogspot.com/On Nov 30, 2005, at 10:29 AM, Joshua Kinberg wrote: I don't think its a "take over". regarding chroma effects, i've had good results with the sheets that they sell, though they're also expensive. some tips:  - as much separation between the subject and the screen as you can manage (essentially forcing any inconsistencies in the screen/wall out of focus)  - extremely flat/even lighting. ie big soft sources. maybe that'll help. good luck. -daniel On Nov 18, 2005, at 11:02 PM, David Meade wrote: Well you want to use as close to pure green (255 green) or pure blue (255 blue) paint as you can. Hi Lynn,

In iTunes, select Podcasts from the music store. Once there, click

address and submit to iTunes. This may take a while to show up in

Hope this is helpful.

I have received NO emails or video clips to help out on this.. and my
deadline has passed. Did everyone see this, or did it just not look
interesting to you?? I hope the reason is because nobody saw it..
Anyway, I'm still shipping it off.

[not angry.. just surprised]

  Hello Everyone,
I'll try to keep this short:
A coworker of mine was sent to Iraq about a month ago and is
 supposed to be
there for a year. My wife and I are working on creating a care
 package to
send to him (he's asked for snacks/dvd's/etc). We also thought of
 creating
him a surprise DVD with personal messages from his friends at work
 and local
community. I think he'll enjoy this!
Here's how you all can help me..
I'm also looking at creating a separate DVD of general thank you
 messages to
the troops. I thought this would be the perfect way to get videos
 from all
over, supporting the soliers. You can help the troops moral by
 just simply
saying how much you appreciate them. If you are interested in
 submitting a
video with your message, please make the video short (under a
 minute?), and
render the clip full resolution (since it will be blown up to DVD
 quality).
To submit your clip, please send me a link, so I can download it.
 If you
have any questions on this, feel free to contact me off list.
  Thanks for the help!

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Message for the Troops DVD

*Sorry for the political discussion, but it also has to do with video.*

I realize this is a global list, but it was the easiest way I could
think of to contact all US videobloggers. The reason why I did not
say US in the original post was because I didn't want others to feel
like they were left out (I feel like the war is a global issue as
well.. although the US does not think globally all the time). Just
to let you know, so you don't get a false impression of who I am or
why I'm doing this.. I am also one of those liberal bastards that
totally opposes the war, and a lot of the policies carried out under
the current administration. The reason I had this idea, was to show
support for my friend/coworker who was sent to Baghdad, and also
shares my opinions on the situation over there. He did not want to
go, but was given orders to do so. The dvd was just a little thing I
can do to show that I actually care enough for his well-being to send
video messages to him and his group..since they are away from their
families.

My wife and I have decided to wait 'til after next wknd to send this
off (It's our son's 1st birthday this week).

I can be contacted off list if anyone is still interested: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Again.. sorry for the political note. :)

 Hello Chris,

Me not being an American (this is a global mailing list, even though a
majority are Americans), I did think it would come across as strange
if I sent a message. Also, being one of those liberal bastards who
think that the USA should do things quite differently in Iraq, I don't
think I could give a cheering vlog entry either.

On the other side, there Are tens of thousands of Americans in Iraq
now, some of them dying, who are fighting for something at least most
of them believe in. Fighting for freedom and democracy in the world.

For the sake of these individuals, yes, I do guess they would be happy
for any moral support from the outside world.

Maybe try again next time, Chris? Don't give up because we are lost in
other things than the lives of people living in a terrible war zone...

 Best regards,
