I can say without reservation that they are trying to rip her off. They
think women in general and especially military wives are easy prey.
There should be a base auto hobby shop where she could get advice on a

You might even call a local church and get a recommendation.

If the pulley gets loose, it can wear a groove in the shaft. If that
happens, the ear will hang in the groove and the pulley can't be removed
until you turn the ear to the correct position. This happened to me a
couple of years ago, and I am trying to remember exactly what
transpired.
BTW: Make
can't get the nut off. It looks like I need to hold the fan nut
somehow with a wrench then loosen the nut to pull off the inner
pulley

Have you tried the reflector tape on the fuel hose? I was thinking of
doing that on an old Ford truck that I have, which suffers from vapor
lock.

Beware of using petroleum jelly on connections! I have experience with
this. When I was younger (long ago), I used petroleum jelly on almost
all my connections. I had to reconsider after an enlightening
experience.

PLEASE be very careful. This is a DANGEROUS task--spring pressure. I
STRONGLY suggest enlisting the help of someone who has done the task and

I agree. I have Compufire installed, and so far (3 years) it is doing
great.
... Electronic ignition
is a good idea from maintenance and efficiency standpoints.
I put electronic ignition into every VW I build, since it helps mileage
and eliminates checking the points - ...
I should also have mentioned to replace the strainer in the tank unless
it is perfectly clean. They are cheap.

Please calibrate your gauge. It sounds like the gauge is malfunctioning.
With 8.5 compression ratio, you should read 110-120 psig.

Asad,
With respect to the gauges, the range seems to be OK, but you did not mention
the sweep i.e. the arc the needle swings through. I try to find gauges with
270 degree sweep; this gives a more precise reading. Many of the cheaper gauges
have a sweep of only 30-45 degrees.

If the scratches are visible, they will leak compression and oil. Either
hone the scratches out or get new cylinders. If you hone them much, you
better make sure the ring gap is within tolerance. I recommend finding
new (or better) cylinders.

I was thinking the same thing. Not being an electronics expert, I was
leaving this to others more knowledgeable than I.
In the past I have used a Chevrolet regulator on a 1959 Renault Dauphine
and a Ford regulator on a 1966 MGBGT. These were all generators, so I

You should take those points back and get a new set.
The contact faces should be parallel. You can use some needle-nose pliers to
bend them a bit so they are parallel. I have had to do this several times.

It sounds like your carburetor may need cleaning. The water won't stay
in the fuel tank (as the outlet is directly on the bottom); however, it
will collect in the bowl of your carburetor. Pull the plug from the side
of the carburetor bowl and drain it. I suspect other debris has also
collected in

I can definitely recommend the Nissan Altima. My family put almost 270k

only major work done on it was to replace the engine mounts and CV

A man after my own heart. I replaced the generator on a Renault (No snide
remarks please) with one from a 1956 Chevrolet. Renault generator was $100+;
Chevrolet generator was $20. I also replaced the voltage regulator on a
friend's MGTD with one from Ford. $50+ for the MG; $10 for the Ford. You
