I know nothing about Scribner.
MS-Word is free, but not very user friendly with VoiceOver. It is almost
impossible to keep track of where you are in a document.
It might be a little better than Pages, but not great.

I personally find Ulysses worth the subscription. It'll be even more the
case once they deal with a touch of cluggishness navigating with VoiceOver.
That's on the agenda. One alternative you may want to check out is Bear. I
don't believe it's a subscription model app. There's also Scrivener. Pages
