iOS 14 Users Report Missing Notifications from Messages App: 9 to 5 Mac

2020-12-11 Thread M. Taylor
iPhone users continue to report missing Messages app notifications after
updating to iOS 14
by Chance Miller, 9 to 5 Mac:

A bug resulting in missing text message notifications is continuing to affect
iPhone users with iOS 14. While the issue appeared to at first to be exclusive
to the iPhone 12 series, it appears to be affecting nearly any iPhone model
running iOS 14 — and the early signs are that iOS 14.3 doesn’t fix the problem
either.

Missing iOS 14 messages notifications
The problem was reported by MacRumors and The Verge recently, and it continues
to gain traction on Apple’s support forums, Reddit, and other online
communities. The problem that many users report is that they do not receive
notifications from incoming text messages and iMessages.

In fact, users say they don’t receive any sort of lock screen notification for
the messages, nor does the Messages app display a badge for the messages. A
thread on Apple’s support forums includes over 40 pages of complaints from
affected users. The affected users have tried a variety of potential fixes, but
none of them appear to be permanent.

Text notifications/vibration do not work in silent mode with locked screen in
iOS 14 on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. However, I get vibration/notifications on my
Apple Watch 4, which is also set in silent mode.
An interesting detail is that I can make it work IF I take off my Apple Watch.
Then text notifications/vibration work exactly as they should on my iPhone.

Another user writes:
My iPhone doesn’t notify me anymore concerning text messages coming in and some
phone calls now. I made sure all my settings were set up properly. This is a
new problem that started directly after the 14 update. There are a lot of posts
on here about the same issue, but I haven’t noticed any resolutions.

Interestingly, Apple’s release notes for iOS 14.2.1, released last month,
indicated that the update resolved an issue where “some MMS messages may not be
received.” This seemed to address a separate bug affecting iPhone 12 users, not
this more widespread iOS 14 bug affecting a broader scope of iOS 14 users.

The Verge adds that the issue does not appear to be fixed in the latest beta of
iOS 14.3:
And if you’re hoping that all will be well when iOS 14.3 releases next week, I
wouldn’t be so sure. Early reports indicate that the no-text-notifications bug
remains present — at least in some cases — in the second release candidate
build of iOS 14.3 that Apple pushed out to public beta testers yesterday.

Apple is likely to release iOS 14.3 to the public on Monday, so it’s possible
the company is able to implement a last-minute fix into that update. Otherwise,
affected users will be waiting until iOS 14.3.1 or later for a fix for this
Messages bug.
Affected iPhone users have even taken to TikTok and Twitter to voice their
displeasure with this bug:

@ogske
Is it just my phone or do yall’s phone not give y’all a notification either ?
#apple #fixitprettyplease #sike #yougonefixitrightnow #iphone #ftk
♬ zoey 101 – cali

The Verge says it has reached out to Apple to find out more information on the
status of this bug and whether there are any plans to fix it. In the meantime,
let us know down in the comments if you’ve experienced this problem on your
device.

Re: Apple Watch and installing apps

2020-12-11 Thread Chris Chaffin

Yes, that is the way it is suppose to work! But for me, after it says
downloading zero percent, it just sits there and does nothing, then it just
lands on the install button again. And unfortunately, it is still listed under
the available apps.
I have tried so much, plus Apple Accessibility had me do lots of stuff.

They even ran 2 test, one on my watch to see if the hardware was working
correctly, and one to see if there were any issues with my phone and watch
communicating with each other.
They even asked me to make a screen recording of me trying to downloading an
app to my watch and send it to them.

All of this is going to be sent to the engineers for them to look at.

I hope a solution is found, because I am very curious to see what is the
problem. The only thing I can think of that I have not done is reset my phone
and set it back up.

I gave an old iPhone to my mother. No pass word or Finger print. She’s 85.
Main just taking pictures and using it for emergencies. Now she can’t get into
her iPhone. It needs a pass word. It’s looking for six digits. I have no
idea what it wants. Is the best thing to do is to bring it back to factory
settings and start over? Thanks.
It’s an iPhone 6 +

Re: iPad suddenly stopped working

2020-12-11 Thread Mickey Quenzer
First of all make sure your charger is plugged in to a wall outlet. make sure
there isn’t a switch that turns The wall outlet off. then unplug your iPad and
wait for about a minute. plug your iPad back in again and most likely that will
turn The iPad on if it can be turned on. Wait for a couple of hours and see if
voiceover comes on. This is my suggestion I hope it works.

Can you see it if you connect it to a computer with the cable?

Re: Apple Watch and installing apps

2020-12-11 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Chris,
Other than the phone, I have the same setup. I have the SE 2020.
I just installed the Weber iGrill app onto my watch from the phone.
When it said Downloading 0 percent.
I hit the side button on the watch.
As I flicked through all the apps, I finally got to Weber iGrill, and was able
to open it on the watch.
Then, I noticed, on the phone Watch app, it was no longer listed under the
available to install, but in the list of installed apps.
I have the WiFi GPS watch, not the cellular plus GPS.

If the device has completely died then it takes time for the system to come

Apple Watch and installing apps

2020-12-11 Thread Chris Chaffin

Having an Apple Watch issue that I am wondering if anyone else is having.
If you are wanting to install an app on your watch that is on your phone, you
can open the Watch app on your phone, find the app that you want to install in
the list and just double tap the install button.
The thing is, this does not work for me. After I hit the install button,
voiceOver says, downloading zero percent, then it goes back to being an install
button, and nothing happens.

I am running watch OS 7.1 on a Apple Watch 6 with an iPhone 11 Pro running ios
14.2.
Is anyone else having this issue?

I will say that I did spend 2 hours on the phone with Apple Accessibility and
we were not able to find what was causing the problem, or a solution. It is
being escalated to an engineer, and now I have to wait until they call me back.
Everything else seems to be working just fine. It is a very strange issue.

Thanks,

Chris

So, yes, wipe the phone, and be sure and go through the passcode options and

It may still come back, but warn her to be very careful and only tap on
passcode options then select do not use passcode.

RE: Tracker for dogs?

2020-12-11 Thread R Van Lant
Reggie,

I was waiting to see if anyone else had an idea before I chimed in. I wonder
if the TrackR app would work. From what I understand, you havethe app on your
phone and attach small beacons to your items, such as the dog collar. It's
meant to help you find misplaced keys and such or I heard the idea of blind
users putting on luggage. I think that you can use the app to ping the item
and make it produce a sound, but there is something about a TrackR network that
will help you find items that are out of range that you've lost. That leads me
to believe that there is some sort of maping aspect to it. Anyway, here is the
website so you can check it out.

Hi, I will take the chance on this, though I figure nobody has used one of
these. I am looking for a tracking device for my phone for tracking two dogs. I
would like it to be accessible but failing that one I can show to someone else
who can then track them. If someone has used one of these please let me know.
Thank you in advance. Appreciated.

I do have this machine. It has been very accessible. You have to make sure
that your air fryer is plugged in, which I don't mean to assume you do not
know. Then it should show up if you scroll around on the screen. You could
also click on devices and you should be able to see it there as well. If you
need more help, let me know. We could look at your screen together or some
thing like that.

Re: keyboard layout and interactions with IOS devices?

2020-12-11 Thread Richard Turner
I have the K480 and I think the main keys are the same as on yours.
Bottom row, from left to right:
Control, Function, Options, Commands, Spacebar, Command, options, then the
arrow keys.
The default VoiceOver key combination is Control+options, then other keys, like
spacebar for the activate command, the same as a one finger double tap.
You can go into the typing settings in VoiceOver and add the Capslock key as a
modifer, or make it the only modifier.
VoiceOver keys plus k puts it into help mode so each key you press speaks its
name but does nothing, escape the escape key and a couple function keys that
kick you out of pratice/help mode.

I have a fairly complete list the keyboard commands on my web site. The site
is www.turner42.com

Re: Questions regarding Apple TV

2020-12-11 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello Reggie, and list,

Thank you for answering my questions. I really appreciate this.

However, this has lead to a few more questions. So I really hope someone
might have some thoughts.

Ok, let's say that I decide to purchase HBO Max. But I don't want to
have to use the App directly. But I know I have to have it installed.

If within the Apple TV App, can I search , and watch the content that is
offered through HBO Max?

Also, would I need to sign up for HBO Max with my Apple ID, in order for
all of this content to show up through Apple TV?

I am probably still a bit confused here. So any help is grately appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Terry, Yes, you have to have the apps for the programs you want to watch. Apple
TV Plus I have watched right from the app, but everything else I watch from
apple TV app but have the app for the network or whatever I am watching. The
other thing about streaming is that every app except those you purchase on a
subscription have to reside on your cable or app such as sling, spectrum app,
youtube TV, etc. Now if I am incorrect on any of this please correct me
everyone. Streaming is relatively new to me. When I ask for a show in the Apple
Tv app it takes me to the show.

As I mentioned in an earlier message, I recently purchased a new phone. So now
I am able to sign up for Apple TV, free for a year. I decided to take advantage
of this.

Here is what I would like to know. I was looking through some of the shows that
were offered. It stated there were shows from HBO Max, CBS all access, and
other networks.

However, if all these shows are offered, does this mean that you would then
have to pay for each service that offered the show?

That's what I am thinking would have to happen.

If you were to do this, would you then watch the shows through the Apple TV
App? Or would you have to download each App that you had subscribed to?

I am just a bit confused by this. So I am needing some clarification.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: iPad suddenly stopped working

2020-12-11 Thread sreebroy
Have you try to do a force reboot on the iPad? Holding down the power button
and the volume Up button for about six seconds should start a force reboot.
Then about 20 seconds later press the power button to restart your iPad.
Other thoughts are do you have screen curtain on? with voiceover turned off?

There is nothing yu have to press on the fryer. When you plug it in, t will
beep. This is the signal that it is ready to receive commands from the app, or

Kay, do you know if your router is dual band or not? The majority of these

Re: Apple introduces AirPods Max, the magic of AirPods in a stunning over-ear design

2020-12-11 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I bought myself a set of expensive sony wh1000xm4 headphones, but I
returned them to amazon. There was so much plastic to them as far as
the design. I felt they would be easy to accidently break without
meaning to. They did come with a nice case and they did sound great.
The Bose nc700 headphones sounded like they were better designed.
They don't fold at all like the Sony headphones which is okay with me.

Well, apparently the initial run has sold out, and now you will have
to preorder and wait for 12 to 14 weeks to receive them.

 Richard,

Thanks for posting the Apple Airpods Max news release. At that $549
price, I hope the sound quality and functionality is outstanding and
they also clean the bathrooms for at least a month.

I intend to get these at some time. I keep my headphones for ages so don’t mind
paying a bit for them. They’re not the most expensive headphones out there. I
wouldn’t buy them if I had to max out my credit card; no point in earning money

I hope you get it up and running soon. I got the air fryer toaster oven, and it
is completely accessible using the accompanying app. I love it. You can also
pair with your Amazon echo. But I actually prefer using the app.
