Hi Edgar,
I've done a little fiction, but this is not my favorite or my best. My
best stuff is non-fiction investigative stuff. Lets see... I've done
lots of work on genetically engineered food. I've done some exposes of
local dirty politics and politicians, this is the work I'm especially
proud
Hi Edgar-
(big sigh)
Sex is such a hot button issue. I have trouble in this area because
now that I am older my perspective on sex is very different than when
I was young. Sex by itself (WITHOUT the pregnancy and sexually
transmitted disease issues) is such a tiny, inconsequential part of
life,
Hi Margie,
Yes, I'd agree with you on most all your points. BTW my grandfather
was a Polish immigrant who escaped Poland hiding in a hay wagon so we
have some similar ancestry. As to the 'emotional damage' from sex I
would note that Zen tells us that most so called 'emotional damage'

Hi Margie,
Read your poems at your site and was quite impressed and hope to read
more if you can post them. Your tone reminds me of mine a lot, one
that I think few people appreciate, sort of a deep very conscious yet
very simple clarity of nature as it is in its overwhelming realness

Chris,
I took LSD and peyote a number of times in the past. I found these
drugs extremely useful in the sense that they clearly show you what
your ordinary mind is like by taking you out of it. It is extremely
difficult to understand the constraints of ordinary mind from within
those
Hi Edgar,
The original meaning of the word virgin was a woman who is not under
the dominion of any man - as in Vestal Virgins. The prostitutes at
Aphrodites' temples were also referred to as virgins. Besides, I
figured if Queen Elizabeth the 1st could reclaim her virginity, so can I.
I've
Not necessarily. Watching a documentary about global warming might invoke a
different state of mindfulness than watching an advert for carpet shampoo. Then
again, depending on the person, watching an advert for carpet shampoo might
invoke a a higher level of mindfulness than a documentary about

my own, of course). Mike.

Hi Margie,
Thanks for the clarification. BTW the Vestals were actual biological
virgins and if they strayed they were buried alive as a punishment.

Mike,
One can certainly gain useful information from at least some TV
shows. The problem is that one's wakened mind tends to be replaced by
the mind of the TV which of course is not one's true mind. Not good
re enlightenment.

Mike,
I really just mean for the sake of discussion on this forum. My
understanding of Zen Buddhism has always been that this is the path
that the Buddha took to enlightenment, minus much of the dogma that
traditional Buddhism has followed. The Eight-fold path, the Middle
Way, the Three
Mike and Chris,
In my view Zen is simply directly experiencing what is real. All else
is just window dressing and fluff, useful perhaps on the way to Zen,
but intrinsically irrelevant.

Chris,
In a recent post you wrote:
I do disagree with Bill's point that Zen has always
stood alone and that other beliefs have tried to
incorporate it, I believe it is the opposite, Zen
has been isolated from Zen Buddhism and incorporated
into other people's beliefs. Or something like that.
I agree completely with Edgar...Bill!

Hi Edgar-
That's really interesting... We have a similar tone to out poetry, we
have polish ancestors, maybe we are long-lost cousins and just don't
know it. grin
I completely agree with you about emotional damage and attachment.
