Dear Jack,

>From the label of the "7-STRAIN MULTIPLE PRO-BIOTIC" supplement that I now use:

"Each capsule contains over 4 billion (4000 x 1 million) organisms in the
following potencies:
L. Acidophilus (DDS-1 tm).........................1.150 Billion
L. Rhamnosus......................................1.150 Billion
L. Rhamnosus (Type B, Bifidus)......................775 Million
S. Lactis...........................................275 Million
Bifidobacterium Longum..............................275 Million
B. Bifidum..........................................275 Million
S. Thermophilus.....................................150 Million
In a base of FOS (Fructooligosaccharides), special carbohydrates, enzymes
and ulmus fulva.
No Daily Value has been established for the above ingredients.
This product contains NO yeast, wheat, soy, corn, milk, salt, sugar,
artificial coloring, preservatives or flavoring.
For best results - refrigerate after opening, and if being stored over a
3 month period or longer."

The product I used previously had the first three "friendly bacteria" as above,
but differed in that it contained: "Bulgaricus, Caucasicus and Yoghurti in a
beet fiber and rice powder base..." and further explained that these "come from
regions of the world where cultured foods are an important part of the
population's
lifestyle." My, we do have a lot to learn from other CULTURES, don't we :) !
BTW, there's a wonderful novel entitled "The Wars Within" out there that deals
with
international intrigue surrounding the "discovery" and then attempted
suppression/
control of a "kefir" (or yogurt culture consumed by the mountain-dwellers of
Abkazia,
a former autonomous republic within Soviet Georgia, set in 1983) by global
pharmaceutical
interests. Having worked for one of the major U.S. Rx concerns, I found it
quite
telling. In 1995, I had the opportunity to meet with the PhD who served as
principle
consultant to the novel's author, and I seem to recall that he said about 85%
of it
all was true. Anyone read this novel?

BTW, I buy my acidophilus from the good folks at MYCA, Inc. whom I know
personally
from my days in med school in Houston, TX. It's one thing to make your own
silver,
but I don't know about the Acidophilus--I guess you could make your own yogurt,
anyone
know? Wonder how many cultures could run simultaneously? That could be the
topic
of a whole 'nother listserv ("Acidophi-LIST", perhaps!). MYCA has posted some
info
on this topic at: http://www.silverbulletgold.com/yeast.htm and their phone is
1-800-426-5524 (or 713-774-8914). Runs about $19.95 for a bottle of 100 and
this
lasts me several months since I only take it when I'm using the silver for an
infection
which, thank THE LORD, is not too often these days! From reading different
brands'
bottles, the stuff seems to stay potent at least a couple of years, so I may
just
take it every now & then to use it up before it expires. Having read a lot
recently
about the connection between ulcers and the "bad" pylori bacteria, I wonder if
these
"good" bugs carry a protective benefit, any application with antibiotics
notwithstanding.
