The safest and best storage subsystem is the one based on no RAIDHBA of any 
kind, just a bunch of disks + ZFS.  No battery  backedup cache, write caches 
disabled. Disks with "server" firmware.
No  RAID  systems with the most basic kind of controller there isare the most 
reliable.
When it comes to data safety, simplicity is best.  ZFS  does  therest.  
Ironically  and fortunately, this is also the cheapest ap-proach.
Finding motherboards without built-in RAID HBA’s is  a  challengethough;  it 
seems that nowadays every manufacturer wants to shovecrappy RAID controllers 
with poor reliability and no observabili-ty down our collective throats.
