Right and that looks like a mission to get IT mode flashed (if possible) etc, going to avoid that > > I have had a look at disklayout thanks ! So for the record - boot SmartOS with the noinstall flag and setup the zones pool then reboot and the zones pool will be used ? > > I see that the E1R12L which is in the joyent manufacturing list has the > > same setup with > the standard 8 SAS ports, do you add another card into that machine for the > other 8 drives > to have SAS throughout ? So iiuc all the 16 SAS drives connect to the backplane which has the SAS expander (SAS2X28) which connects to the LSI 2308 on the motherboard. That JBOD expansion port vein onboard is neat to connect to extra SAS storage out the box. Yes the SSD’s using the AHCI (SATA ?) does seem to limit their effectiveness and possible throughput. I am trawling through the SuperMicro catalog and there are so many trade offs and not really anything that stands out. I do like the the 2u option (E1R12L) that you have chosen at the moment as the best for now. What other options are there if you can share ?
