I agree. But what if someone cannot buy a better RAID card? What if someone is compelled to use affordable hardware? I have a lot of RAID cards (also on Sun/Oracle hardware!) that cannot be used as JBOD, so I've configured them using RAID0 for each disk. And on machines running Solaris or, now, SmartOS. I think that the solution could be a good monitoring policy.
