But what if someone cannot buy a better RAID card? What if someone is
compelled to use affordable hardware?
I have a lot of RAID cards (also on Sun/Oracle hardware!) that cannot be
used as JBOD, so I've configured them using RAID0 for each disk. And on
machines running Solaris or, now, SmartOS.
I think that the solution could be a good monitoring policy.

It is, but the MegaCli output isn't very helpful.

I've written a little application to distil the output into something manageable, combining PD and VD data together in a csv file. I'll probably log that output and mail myself if the Error counters change. Ideally this should go into FMA somehow, I'll have to have an look and see how this can be done.
