>Daphne felt a blush overtake her face at the comment that she would be a
>gooad parent.  "Don't get me wrong, Captain.  I would definitley love to
>have children.  My parents also had challenging careers, but they did not
>allow them to get in the way of their being good parents to us.  I just
>wonder if having a mom in the field is the best way for a child to grow
>up.  There would always be that fear that mom wouldn't come home.  Do you
>have children?"

She shook hear head, her mane swaying.  "No.  I have not desssirrred
childrrren, although I have had a numberrr of matesss.  I am not cut out to
rrraissse cubsss.  I don't get along well with them, and they don't ssseem
to like me, so it'sss a mutual thing."  It had the ring of a litany, more
than the truth, something she told herself and was trying very hard to
believe it.

Daphne had experienced those same emotions but had found that for herself they were an excuse to explain her lack of children rather than her real feelings.  It was truly possible that the same was true for the Caitian Captain.  "They are not for everyone, but they do seem to add a lot to the experiences of life even if they are only visiting neices and nephews."
